Hey guys, to make my E look extra pimpin for the upcoming homecoming time i think im going to have my car professionaly cleaned, not detailed, but theres a place by my house that for 50 bucks they wash the car, hand dry it vacum the inside clean the inside w/ some sort of interior cleaner, clean the windows (inside and out), and then wax it. does the wax hurt the panels? caz if it does i can just wash it myself it's just kinda tedious.
Since the E has an easily cleanable interior, unless your vehicle is REALLY dirty I would say $50 is too much to pay for just a cleaning.
Don't wax the panels -just use some 303 Protectant on them to keep them shiny and new.

I am a pro detailer...and this is what I say to my customers when they ask me the same question. Unless you are very competent at cleaning your car, the detail shop will be able to get your car MUCH cleaner than you can in an equivalent period of time. That is, you can certainly clean your car. And if you know what you are doing, you can do a great job of it. Hiring a detailing service is a convenience service for folks who would rather use those 2 hours (that they would otherwise have to use to wash their car) on other things. If you've got the money, but not much time, hire the shop to clean your car.
Just beware that shops that offer those $50 wash and wax services will do just that....wash then wax. So even if your car is rife with surface contamination and needs a clay bar or a polishing before the wax, they will often just slap a coat of cheap wax onto your car, right over the contamination.

Wax will get stuck in the texture of the plastic panels. Though it will not physically harm the panel in any way, it just looks unsightly.

What are you getting for your 50? Just a wash and wax?
IMHO spend your 50 on some good products, i.e. Griots, meguiars, mothers pro. And DIY.
The griots plastic cleaner is good for the panels.
Remember, just like in "old yeller" there's some jobs a man's gotta do for himself.
