: How I spent my Saturday
What better way to spend a beautiful day than on your beautiful E 8)
Nothing special, just thought I'd share
Remove door panels and installed Xtreme Dynamat. Door make a nice solid sound now. This pic was taken before I reinstalled the plastic weather sheet.

Cheap cargo carpet/blanket and net. The blanket is 54"x68" travel mat from Costco. One side is fleece and the other is waterproof vinyl, perfect for those days you want to sit on the grass and read a book.
The cargo net is a generic net with bungee loops for tie downs, bought this at Canadian Tire for $14Cdn. To make this work in the E I bought 4 of those press clips for $3 and looped them through the bungee. The result is a ver functional and inexpensive blanket/carpet/cargo net solution for rear cargo staorage

I had another cargo net from my previous vehicle so I decided to try something different. I cut the net to size, threaded the bungee from the net through the seatback loops, tied the ends and now have a net for my seatback. I find this to be a better solution to the bungees, holds more stuff too.

Lets see.......what to do this weekend :D
Ger Brassfield 05-08-2003, 10:40 PM X2E, com'on down to sunny Southern California where the weather is really great and you can spend a Saturday afternoon doing what you did at home. EEEHHHH????
TheLusciousHellcat 05-08-2003, 10:46 PM What is the purpose/function of Xtreme Dynamat?
Cost?
It's nice that they make a solid sound.
GREAT job on the net and bungee for the seat. Way. Cool.
You go, Ger!
isketerol 05-09-2003, 05:57 AM Xtreme Dynmat is for audio dampening. See the link at http://www.audioart.com.au/p_dynamat.html
Definiteky will have a look for the travel mat.
Thanks, X2E!

StLouisPenguin 05-09-2003, 06:15 AM Okay maybe I am looking at the pic wrong.....but what is going on with the cargo area.....I see the net and the cool reversible fleece blanket.....but please explain.....I am a bit confused as to why the net is flat on the ground.
I have a net across the back.....against the tailgate.....but not on the floor.
Please help end the confusion!
btw......love the cargo net on the seat back.
It's a must try for my weekend agenda!
Thanks for the pictures!
lon777 05-09-2003, 06:42 AM Good idea with the dynamat - it will make those barn-sized doors sound like a "real" Honda.
The Dynamat is used to dampen the sound of the metal in the door. I plan on installing Eclipse speakers in there and the have the ability to shake things up, so dampening material will help eliminate rattles. Also it seals up the holes and almost creates a sealed enclosure for the front speakers, not 100%, but better than nothing. Cost was $100Cdn total for both doors.
The Element has 4 tie downs that can be used to secure things down to the ground. This is also good when you lift/remove the seats, carry multiple bags, heavy items, or even travel with the tailgate down. I like to let gravity do its job, the net holds it from sliding side to side.
Black Elephant 05-09-2003, 08:43 AM I put Dynamat in my doors but only as far as I could reach from the speaker cutout.
I am going to do more,

Thanks Iskie. I think I was thinking of it as being stereo-system related at first, which is why I was confuuuuuzed. But yeah, if it reduces noise and adds a nice solid 'thunk' to the door closure, I'd consider it a great modification.
I can't believe I'm actually thinking of modifying my car in small respects. The horn, the Dynamat, maybe even one of those cold air thingies in the engine (even though I don't know the word for it). And then there's the Meguiar's car wax.
Basically, I'm going to pay a lot more attention to my E, when I get it, than a lot of boyfriends I had in the past.
Heeeeeeeeeee!
oldschool23 05-09-2003, 10:04 AM X2E, I like the cargo mat and net. I too might have to look into that. There's a costco and ct right beside our house.
I bought the Dynamat from Best Buy, it comes in a box labeled as a two door kit. They also have a small display to demonstrate the sound dampening effect used on a bell, you'll be surprised the first time you hear it.
For the install you'll need to remove the door panel using a phillips screwdriver and panel puller or flat head screw driver. The Dynamat is sticky on one side so you should fit and cut to size before you actually apply the material. Use a heat gun to warm up the mat and metal, then apply. Use the heat gun and a small roller to apply the mat to all the contours of the door, remember to pass the wires through the mat before you forget where they go. You don't have to do the entire door, this material is very effective in small quantities.

The photo of your netting on the seatbacks looks great!
I don't have an old netting that I can use, however.
Does anyone out there know where one could purchase similar type of netting for the seatbacks instead of using all bundee cord?
Thanks
