Me and my girl spent a beautiful Labor day working on the E. We figured since Fall is coming along we might as well do the Mother's Clay Bar and try out that new Meguiar's NXT Spray Wax.
I washed the car and used a silicone wiper to get the majority of the water off. If you haven't got one, get one, they make the job a lot easier and you don't need to dry as much.
Then it was time for Mother's Clay Bar. Mmmmm, the smell of cinnamon wafts gently from the finish of the car. I love this stuff! It was actually kinda fun doing this. The process is to simply spray the included polish and then rubbing the car with a yellow claybar. I was surprised at how much rail dust, grit and stuff it was pulling from the paint. For all intents and purposes the car was clean after its wash, but kinda dull. After a day or so after a normal wash, the car would feel gritty again, but not now. Er go, the Claybar. Now it's "baby butt smooth" as my woman says.
The Claybar process goes quickly. Soon the entire car was done (and it helps if you have someone working right behind you.) and I was ready to move on to the next step of waxing.
Someone here had recommended Meguiar's NXT Generation Spray Wax. I picked up a bottle, only $8 at the local Shucks. This is where I have to rant and rave. First the rant: The idea of spraying a wax, has got to be, the most STOOPID, INANE, WORK INCREASING idea, EVER! I suppose if you had taped off the car with painters tape and paper, on a completely wind-less day (good luck) it would work fine. Guess what the first tip on the bottle is? "Try spraying directly into cloth" And listen, this is a real wax, not a Turtle Wax, or washnwax product, this is a watered down version of their NXT Wax. But it is hard to get off the panels should you get any on.
That said, now the RAVE: OMG! This stuff is sick! I've used a lot of waxes, and maybe it's all just mind hype, but this seems to actually bring out a lustre and a gloss that I haven't been able to get with Carnuba type waxes. Just as a note, I will pick up the paste version of this NXT stuff in the future. More product, more control, nuff said.
We finished the outside with some rain-x, again in a spray bottle which is just as worthless as an applicator because it will fly onto your freshly waxed vehicle. (try spraying into cloth) is my new motto. When we were done we treated ourselves at the local 7-11 and had to get the attention of the cashier, who was staring, and I kid you not, dreamily out the window at our E. "Is that a new car?!" Which launched us into the E seller conversation :)
Later, we found ourselves in Shuck's again, getting a California Duster to cut down on washing now it's waxed. Hmmm, but will the power of the duster really be able to keep me from being the clean fanatic I already am? Dun dun dun....
