: Element is 8' from dash to tailgate! L@@K
bobhch/hchbob 09-08-2005, 06:27 PM Went and bought some 2 x 4's a couple of days ago in my Element. I tried this first with just one, before going to Lowes. Picked up 18 of the little guys and they just fit with the back seat up. More could have easily been put in with the back seat taken out. Used a bungy on the rear net holder to secure them and had some colapsable chairs in back. This kept everything level.
Soooooo if you are wondering how long of stuff you can haul in the E. The Answere is: 8 foot....you could go longer with rear top hatch up and bungys.
It did not take long for someone from Lowes to come and help me load up. The guy who helped me just wanted to see how I was going to fit the 2 x 4's in my Element  .
O.K. This is making me MAD! I just tried to upload pictures. Aaaaaargh!
Just use your imagination I guess....Will try to post pics again later.

Lunarlight 09-08-2005, 06:31 PM Great to know. I've been planning on building shelving for my, er, reptiles and I've been putting it off all summer (because I was driving a Prelude). Now that I have the E, I should move that project back to the front. I won't be shy about slingin' some lumber. Ha.

spdrcr5 09-08-2005, 06:33 PM Find another place to host the pictures... we don't know how long the picture posting site on EOC will be down. We're sorry for the problems this is causing.

Problem....Noooooo Problem....Thanks again! Bob
E-Freak 09-08-2005, 06:50 PM I fit a 16' extension ladder in my Civic and managed to close the trunk. I'm sure it would fit in the Element too. It's almost magical the way things seem to fin in the E.
SuperJETT 09-08-2005, 09:18 PM You can actually get 10' stuff in if you leave the rear seatback up and angle it down into the front passenger footwell. You're more limited on the amount that way, but it will fit.
hardguy 09-08-2005, 11:09 PM Wow, good to know that the 8' and 10' fit in the E. I just drove to Windsor, Ontario, Canada from Chicago and picked up an Oakley display case like nine months ago. I had the front passenger seat and the seatback pulled all the way forward with the passenger side back seats removed and I was able to stuff a 6' 2" tall Oakley display case in with no room to spare at the tailgate. I was getting kind of nervous since the guy that met me halfway there from Toronto came with a Pathfinder, so I thought it was going to be too long to stuff in the E. I guess if it was any taller than that, my next option would be to fold down the front passenger seat and lay it on the seat. Either way, my girlfriend had to sit behind me on the driver side back seat the whole 3 and a half hour drive home.
LEGO MY E 09-08-2005, 11:18 PM I've hauled all kinds of stuff in my "E"... even a couple pieces of sheetrock, though it was quite a pinch. I had to put them in at an angle with the rear seats completely removed, but it worked!
Reminder folks... do NOT remove your front passenger seat to fit more into your "E". You will trigger the airbag safety switch (which will need to be reset by your dealer - about $80.00), and it can permanently damage your airbag system (several thousands of dollars!!).

Did you have any visual imparement from the sheetrock? WOW!
LEGO MY E 09-09-2005, 12:36 AM Did you have any visual imparement from the sheetrock? WOW!
Not too bad... I was able to see both of my side view mirrors, so no sweat. The only thing that sucked is I had to leave the tailgate and hatch open, and gypsum dust kept blowing into my eyes as I drove down the freeway!
There are much better things to haul with your "E", that's for sure (as per the original post)! :)
cai88 09-09-2005, 12:46 AM When I bought my kayak the store didn't have the right tie downs so I layed the seats down and slid it in. The nose was on the dash but the kayak is 9.5'. You should of seen the sales guys face

I know that look all too well! Don't ya just love it? :)
richwoy 09-21-2005, 09:12 AM I helped a friend move a spare refrigerator this past weekend. Don't know the exact measurements (seemed like your standard-size fridge from 10 years ago), nor did I take any pictures, but it fit in the E nicely on it's side along with the appliance dolly we used. I could easily close the tailgate, too. We just had to move the front seats forward so that my chest was touching the steering wheel (not really), and my 6'4" friend's face was pressed against the windshield (not really true, either).
Just thought I'd share my experience - I was able to save my friend a fair amount of cash by not having to rent a U-Haul truck. And I got a 6-pack out of it! Go me! Just another reason why the E is such a great vehicle.
mjpd1 09-21-2005, 09:36 AM Good to know bOBHCh, thanks for the pics too! I've currently got an '04 Nissan Xterra, but I'm seriously considering an Element within the next few months. It's good to see I can still haul stuff like 2x4's (I do a lot of general construction). Any word on a sheet of drywall fitting as well?

Check Lego's earlier post - sheetrock is drywall.....

Thanks, I skimmed over those posts somehow. Good to know it can fit if it has to.
Oh and Sheetrock is a brand; drywall is a product ;)

Simply removing the front seat triggers the switch? Or does driving with the seat removed do it? I'm still learning here so I'm not even sure how easy it is to remove the front seats, but I was assuming it was as doable as the rest.

Yeah, only if you turn the key on or drive your "E" will the airbag switch be triggered with the wiring disconnected from the front seat(s). Otherwise it should be fine to remove the seats and disconnect the wiring temporarily (like if you wanted to replace your urethane floor material or something).
Oh, and it's also a pain in the butt to remove the front seats!
aristoBrat 09-21-2005, 04:22 PM My proudest E moment was fitting a whole kitchen's worth of IKEA cabinets into my E and still being able to comfortably drive home with a copilot. 72 pieces/936 pounds, including some kickboards that went from the tailgate glass pretty much up to the dash. Actually won $10 from an IKEA employee who bet it wouldn't all fit. (Elements were still new back then, ... people had no idea what they could do...) :)

bobhch/hchbob 09-21-2005, 09:15 PM aristoBrat,
Nice pics and nice kitchen! That E of yours is packed. WOW! 10 bucks is great. That must have been before the price of gas started to go up?
Here are some pics of my project that I needed the 2 x 4 s for. I have a 3 car garage and just sold my 1970 Nova. Now I am using the space for storage and work area. No more project cars for me. Just my Project E car.
I used my Father-in-Laws S-10 to haul the first load of 2 x 4 s, plywood and pegboard sheets. I needed more 2 x 4 s and went back this time in the E.
XhondaX 09-21-2005, 09:33 PM The E amazes me! Every time you guys post pics of your cargo I reconfirm to myself that the E is the ride for me!
bobhch/hchbob 03-18-2006, 12:35 PM Hey just thought I would try to bring this thread back to life for a short bit. The new 2006ers have noooo idea what their "E" is capable of. or do they?:?
corbow 03-18-2006, 01:41 PM Hey, I'm a 2006er and while I haven't stuffed my E to the gills yet, I have carried a couple of loads that would have maxed out my CR-V. In the E I had plenty of room to spare.
My E cargo test will come in early April, when another artist and I load up our displays and luggage to do a fair in Seattle. Second test comes in June, when still another artist and I load up not only our show displays and luggage, but our workshop tools and working clothes; our trip to California is for a workshop and another fair. I'll try to remember to take pics of the loaded E.

Heh.
Ours is less than a month old and I've already brought 4/4 and 5/4 stock lumber home in it. I've hauled away a set of garage melamine cabinets (suitably knocked down) that were 8' long & 2' wide. Just folded down the rear seat and loaded up. We've done the snow run in the mountains and are off camping to the desert next weekend. I spilled coffee in the back on the first day and the kids plowed through some ice cream in the back the first week.
We're pretty sure what it's capable of.
:D
bobhch/hchbob 03-18-2006, 10:20 PM Very versitile indeed the Element is. You 2006ers do know. :)
I grew up in the back of a 72 VW Super Beetle in the 70s. We moved off of the farm and into the city. My Dad wanted something that was practical and good for Vacations also. Those dang things had storage behind the rear seats and the whole front hood was storage also. The Element has lots of storage in rear and if more is needed then look to the roof. The VWs dome roof stopped that possibility for the most part.
rodaniel 03-19-2006, 06:41 AM Hey Bob, don't think I missed that you have a package of Sharpies stashed in your seatback cargo net. Ya just went up a coupla more notches in my book, bro!

rodaniel,
I love Sharpies. I use them at work all the time to write delivery info (address, Builder name, and Job # etc) on jobs to be delivered. Work only has Black and Red. Not enough for me. I have all the colors....Yeah Baby! Oh we have 5 different highlighters but, they aren't Sharpies and that doesn't count in my book!
If I run out of Marshmallows or Hot Cocoa at work I just make a big Sharpie note and duct tape it to my lunch pail to remind myself to bring more the next day. :) I love Hot Cocoa......Yuck on the Coffee drinking. Wife does drink Coffee though and I picked her up some Folgers French Vanilla as it smells real good when it has been brewed. Our Warehouse Manager just started to use it and the whole place smells like butterscotch....Ooooooh yeah! :D
You ask what does any of this have to do with Element storage space? :? Well I could have taken out one of my sharpies from the Element and wrote this all down and posted a picture of it here. Good enough for me.
Oh and remember to always keep a fresh Sharpie for just doodling sometimes. It is no fun to doodle with a non-sharp Sharpie.
You just moved up a couple of notches in my book for noticing the Sharpies bro, Bob

I bought a couple of the rainbow assortment packs of the new mini Sharpies with the lanyard loop on top and used them for stocking stuffers at home & work back in December. We all wear ID badges at work so the mini Sharpie was just another peice of cool "lanyard bling."
InSaNeBoY 03-21-2006, 03:25 PM mmm well 12' countertop stuck out the back of the E... but not much stuck out so I still got that look from the guy who helped me load it :)
Though I think the best one was sliding two fully assembled 36" anthro carts (http://www.anthro.com/ppage.aspx?pmid=24) plus two computers, 20" monitors, and wires etc in with room to spair.

Bump....bump...nudge. lol
E-Ticket 08-27-2006, 08:08 AM Picked up and packed in an 8' x 10' living room area rug at Lowes this weekend. I wish there was a way to bottle the disbelief exhbited. Loaded it the same manner as the 2x4s.
Scooter 05 08-27-2006, 08:42 AM 2x10s stick out a bit. Tried laying the first one across the top of the dash, but it still stuck out the back. That's ok, I'm happy! :D
