Here is Dugan, he is now 5 months old. He is more of a mobile wrecking ball than a dog. And has trippled in weight in 2 months. This Victorian Bulldog loves Elements.

Hi Guys,
Things are going good. I had to pull him out of puppy class because he kept on getting sick and the vet said he was too young to be exposed. But now that he has all his shots he will be going back to training. The only problem we have right now is that he likes to bite us too often.

My Olde english bulldogge was a fast grower too........She's done now at about 90lbs! Winney will be two on October second and has a vet appt. on the 10th to get her hips checked for breeding. She is the best dog I have ever owned....If youre puppy turns out anything like mine(as victorian's and oldes are very simular).......your a lucky parent!!!!

As in angry or playful???

Angry: Not really...once in a while when another dog starts something she defends herself. Usually she snaps and growls at them (she's regularly around about 6 different dogs...my mother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, neighbors, etc.) if they do so first which is really very seldom. She did bite my mother-in-laws jack russel once but it was just a little puncture.......he stole her "greenie" and then snapped at her when she tried to get it back. I have never seen her start anything.

Playful: When she was a baby she would nip...probably at around the age of your pup. When she would do it, I'd say ouch really loud almost scaring her, and then told her no. I tried never to encorage her to bite my hands either by rough housing with just my hands...if I rough house I use a stuffed toy so that she knows she can bite that and not me! She doesn't nip at all now...sept for when she's giving big kisses and kind of nibbles on my nose!

I've gotten many comments about how well behaved she is and I believe a lot of it is simply from her breed. Although very bulldogish and hard headed, they are very smart dogs and really need good training.

Those pictures are all old, from when she was about 5 weeks old to just over a year. She has filled out a lot since then and is much more muscular. The cat....his name is Cisco and he's the oldest at 4. I have two others that are 3 and 1, all males. Brutus, the youngest has adopted Winney(my bulldog) as his mommy and nurses off of her every night. He's done this since I brought him home from the farm that I work at after his real mom was eaten by a fox! Winney just sits and lets him do it...sometimes she gets annoyed and just swats him away but over all, she doesn't care. I guess I need to get a picture of it. Oh yeah...he doesn't nurse off of her nipples, he nurses off of her flappy lips!!!!

Any way, I hope I helped a little

Hi horseygal,
Sorry for getting back to you so late. Our Bully seems to get carried away and bite us when playing. He actually ignores the toys sometimes and goes for skin. Lately I think it is sexual because he is not fixed yet.

There are a few cool bulldog sites with forums and they recommended putting coins in a can to starle him when he bites. havent tried it yet.
Thanks for the tips.

I did the coin thing for a while and it scared the crap out of winney (shes a big baby) and it was a pain to have it with me where ever I was. By the time they bite and you have to get up and get the can (unless u some how attach it to yourself) Its to late to scold your puppy! Thats why I like the OW way...just more handy I suppose. You could also put something nasty tasteing on your hands like tabasco sauce or...umm this stuff called "bitter apple" (at a pet store) then kind of encorage him to bite your hands a little and he should stop due to the yuck taste.

likecoiledsteel, what a cute puppy. Dugan should grow out of the biting. I would also recommend one of those nylon bones. We had a succession of English bulldogs when I was growing up. (The only problem with a bull is they die young. 8 is old for a bulldog.) Our dogs would spend hours chewing on a nylabone. They loved them and it gave them something to bite. Bulls are very trainable in any case, and you can cure that one.

A 90 pound English bull, horseygal! That's a huge bulldog. Winney - great name. Most of our bulls had English names. You've got to give them English names. What a beautiful dog, too. You are absolutely right about the mellow temperment. Bulldogs are great dogs. :)

Humm...Element owners that thing English bulldogs are attractive. Are we seeing a trend here? :?

Winney is an OLDE english bulldog. They are much more healthy and live longer than regular bulldogs (dont have the skin problems or the breathing problems). Thats also why she is so big...she's pure breed but to make them is an 1/2 english bulldog, 1/4 bullmastiff, and 1/4 american bulldog. An English bulldog is and 1/2 olde english bulldog and 1/2 pug. and I believe that a victorian bulldog is 3/4 english bulldog and 1/4 american bulldog. All of course are considered pure breed.

As for the nylon bones...Winney loves them, the problem is that she eats them in about an hour! I buy her chew toys and she litterally demolishes them with in a few hours or days  And she LOVES to chew. My hubbys mad at her right now and I'm mad at him cause she ate my game boy and he said that he hates all of our animals and wants to get rid of them (I know hes just mad, but still)

Anyway...I like to get winney "greenies" and the huge cow thigh bones or raw hides that are the same size. I know that bones and raw hides arent good for her but the raw hides just give her gass and the bones she cant break cause they are too big.

I think steeles problem is more of his pup biting him than chewing on things.

Great looking bully you have there. We have a Bulldog named Maximus (aka Max). He is the best dog we have ever had. He is like an old man at times because he likes to go to bed at a certain time and likes to have things just so. We have a little boy who is 4yr old now and they are like 2 peas in a pod. The dog and him are together all the time. I think getting a pure breed is very important when getting this breed of dog because of the health problems that are associated with them. Knock on wood, we have been very lucky whith Max. He has a large rope wrinkle above his nose and it may have to be worked on to make it smaller for health reasons but other than that he has had no other bulldog related problems. A good thing to get is pet insurance especially with this kind of dog. Its not all that exspensive and is really worth it when you end up needing it. Max had stones in his blader and they had to be surgicaly removed. I cant remember the total of the bill but I do know that the insurance picked up almost everything. Take care and have fun with your little bully. I'll try to post some pics later. He has the same colorings as yours.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the compliments and advice. We decided to go with a Victorian because they have less health problems than full English. Victorians get a little taller, are more athletic, less wrinkles/skin problems and hip problems. Just a correction, a Victorian is 3/4 English, 1/4 American bulldog. Males usually max at 65-70lbs.

........oops!.......sorry about that, I knew it was english and amierican bulldogs but I couldn't remember the percentages!

I got Winney for the same reasons. Male Oldes max out at about 110lbs, I guess due to the mastiff in them.
