I just finished putting in a new head unit, new speakers, 2 amps, and a sub... and now when I try to shift out of park into drive, the lever locks me out, forcing me to manually override. I have a small amp where the stock EX sub used to be... I cleared everything out of the center compartment, but no results. Anyone run into a similar problem? A fix perhaps? help? :-x :-x :-x

Let me make sure I understand this. You can't shift out of Park even with your foot on the brake but you can shift out of Park when using the safety over-ride?
If the above is true, then check your brake pedal to make sure you didn't knock the safety wire loose/off. There is an electronic link between the brake pedal and the transmission. This means you have to depress the brake pedal before being able to shift out of Park.
If that isn't it then I don't know what could be causing this.
Let me know. HTH

Use the shift lock override. Then check of before the horn fuse under the hood.

Yes, check to see if your brake lights and horn are working, and if not, fuse #7 in the under-hood fuse box is blown. I do recall that this fuse also supplies the stereo memory power wire; D-I-Y'ers tend to overlook that they're messing with wires that have power on them with or without the key.
Moral: disconnect battery when playing with audio wiring.
