So, after much ado and fanfare as of about two months, the system is being installed beginning tomorrow. I can barely contain myself, as my Rotel home theater processor (RSP-1068 ) has gone out of whack and thus my home system will be down for about 2-3 weeks (!!).
Here is the list.

McIntosh MX406 CD/FM reciever
McIntosh MPM4000 Meter Module
McIntosh MCD4000 6-Disc changer
McIntosh MCC302 Subwoofer amplifier (600w bridged into 4-ohm load)
McIntosh MCC404 Mains amplifier (100w into 4 ohms)
JL Audio XR 6.5" components, front
JL Audio XR 6.5" coaxials, rear
JL Audio 10W6v2 Subwoofers (2)
Custom black leather finished box
Hardwire for Valentine One Radar Locator
McIntosh Rotary Sub controller
Dynamat Extreme (lots and lots)
Custom-cut & terminated Analysis Plus Blue Oval Interconnects w/ 24-karat
Analysis Plus RCA connectors (6-nines silver solder)
Custom-cut & terminated Analysis PLus Blue Oval Speaker cable (14awg,
point-to-point, including inside the sub box)
JL Audio Power Cables & delivery system
Analysis PLus Silver Oval iPod cable (all silver conductors)
Custom PLexiglass cover for spare tire well
A partridge in a pear tree.

I am going to attempt to get Mike to photograph the install process, dunno about that. I will have pics posted when I get her back (Friday hopefully, if all goes well).

THis is gonna be LOUD and ROCKIN. Ultra low distortion (no higher in any component that 0.008 THD), 8-times oversampling 20bit DACs (one per channel), and amps that will NEVER CLIP (technically they will clip, but the PowerGuard circuit will lower the volume within 1/1000th of a second to avoid damaging peaks, then will return it to level in the same amount of time). I am hoping to win some SQ competitions soon. Maybe I'll get the thing on some manufacturers websites.

More later!

Yeah, well. So a guy at AudioMasters decided now would be a good time to quit. I'm loading up my car this AM and get a call saying that they need to reschedule until Monday. I've been waiting for these guys to do this for two months now and they just can't get it together...
Makes me very angry...

So why are you still going there?

A fair question.
I am going to these guys for a few reasons.
Firstly, they are the only folks in town capable of installing McIntosh gear - and are the only guys willing to do so and still warranty their work, even if the equipment was not purchased from them (all the JL will be though).
Secondly, they are far and away the best in town.
Thirdly, I know the installer.
FInally, these guys have won IASCA trophies every year since the Dark Ages.

It'll be worth the wait. I'm not having some jack-leg attack my car. THings happen, it's not their fault some guy quit.

This still sounds like the right shop, bdj. I'd stick with them. I understand about the delay. As you have seen, I do understand about the delay! Hey, look at it this way. It wouldn't be done in a week anyway.

Plus, if you have half the ears I think you do, you'll spend the next two months voicing the system. How are you as an audio engineer? You're not expecting this thing to sound correct when it leaves the shop, now, are you?

Ask the guys at AudioMasters how long it takes for (1) the drivers to break in and (2) to then voice a system. I bet they say two months - or more - also.

As for pictures, if you can stop by once or twice a day, then you can be the photographer during the install. You'll want that documentation for IASCA if you do decide to compete. Don't expect your installer to take the pictures. He has more important things on his mind, like the install on your car, than taking pictures.

Outpost -
I expect it should take about 100 hours for the subs to break in, slightly more for the tweeters as they are aluminum domes.
I do of course understand that I will be fiddling with crossovers and amplifier gains for some time to tweak it into submission. It isn't as simple as setting up a pair of home speakers, but it will be worth it in the long run. The JLs have some 15 different tweeter/mid settings to tweak with, and the Macs have plenty of adjustment as well.
I suspect that I will have the system dialed in rather quickly, as I will play with it on all my days off (two per week, natch, but one involves school.) I figure that by Christmas time, she will be ready to shake brains and butts.

No doubt on the pics. I'll get 'em loaded as fast as I can. Hopefully Mike will take my camera through the install process, and take pics of everything going in.

Get this though, folks - since they set me back, mine will be the only car in their shop for two days. Most of the stuff will be done in 48 hours. I'm paying them enough for it! I have to take the car on a trip up the road next THursday, so if Mike works from 9-9 for two days, it should be in and done in time for me to begin the breakin process.
