What is your opinion of the Infinity Reference 6012i 6-1/2"?
I can get them off eBay for anywhere from $40-$60 a pair shipped.
If I bought 4, would they fit the Element?
Would they sound good if I plan on using a sub or two?
Thanks.

infinity makes great stuff. I think they will fit, and they will sound good, I don't know if they will sound all that good with the anemic stock amp. You may want to invest in a good amp to power them. Infinity makes decent amps at decent prices, you could probably power them with a REF7541A 4-channel; it can be had at retail for $375.
Infinity subs are also excellent values - a good reference sub, 10", or a pair therof, paired with a REF311A (also $375) would give you excellent sound and great dynamics.
What head unit are you planning on using? the stocker is good, if paired with outboard amplification.
If you did not want to go overboard, the REF5761 6-channel would power 4 speakers and 2 subs. it goes for $475.
I beleive in Infinity - I have had two home speaker systems made by them. They offer excellent value, and they are great as long as you don't beat on them. I had 2 10" Kappa subs powered by Rockford Fosgate amps in my old Cherokee, and that was a LOUD and accurate system.
Let me know more about your goals with the system and I can make other reccomendations.

I purchased 2 Kenwood Excelleon X789 head units recently for both of my vehicles. I haven't installed them yet, but I plan on running them with factory speakers for probably 1 month and then upgrading to Infinity or something even better. I wish I could test drive some Focal speakers too. There just isn't a decent high end audio store in Oklahoma City. I order almost everything I get online and usually end up hearing it for the first time after I get it installed because of this. So, as you can imagine I use forums and product reviews a great deal of the time. So, here is what I have now:
1996 Honda Prelude Si - Kenwood X789 - Alpine E-Series 12" Sub (X2) - Sony XPLOD 1200W amp - Sony XPLOD 6.5" speakers throughout. -NOTE that the XPLOD speakers are the only change I need to make to this car.
Then there is my factory E, with just an X789 head unit and everything else is stock. So I am really open for suggestions.
I really like Focal speakers. I used to be a fan of MB Quart but after installing a set of Focal components in my other car I find them superior to MBQ in reproducing the mid and bass tones. I don't run a sub in that vehicle, however, so bass reproduction may be less of an issue for you.

I really liked Focals also, almost went with the 165 slimlines, the nicer ones but not Utopia...but, since my installer doesn't sell them, and I spent $$$$$$$ on the Mcintosh equipment elsewhere, I thought I would be nice to him and buy the JLs through him. If they end up not what I want, I'll buy the Focal's and install them myself...I just want him to run all the cables and do the dynamat and all the hard stuff...if I don't like the XRs I will put them on sale here.
Cheers!

circuit city says they will fit...i was looking at getting four of those as well...i'm sure they will sound better than stock without external amplification (of course, they will sound better with amplification, if you have the money)...

I have 4 of those model infinitys in my E. Sound great and the poly cones really hold up well. I did have to do some cutting to the front door speaker hole because it wasn't deep enough for the magnets.

There's a LOT of info about the Infinity's from way back if you do some searching. Many owners have used them and like them.
