: Got bored on Friday
First, Hello EOC.
Second, I just purchased my first E a month ago; an 03 SOP EX. I wasn't sure what paint scheme I was going to try. The previous owner had some poor body work done before it was sold. So I figured while I was in fixing the hacked work I would paint the panels or the whole truck. The color was going to be a "game time decision". I opened the paint cabinet and the first can I see is Dupont's "Hot Rod Black". The rest is history. What do you think?
kampin jak-vic 10-01-2005, 11:52 PM Looks good. Just got my E about a month ago as well. Got rid of a 2004 F-150, sure like the economy of driving one of these, now I can afford to do things other than buy gas.

Hey,
Did you paint it with Spray Cans or a Spray Gun? It's a little unclear as to which. Nice job though.
Thx, Phil

Thanks.
No, no, it's not a rattle can job. I used a gun, well actually two. An ATD w/ a 1.7 tip for primer and a Sharpe T1 with a 1.4 for the top coat. The adhesion promoter was USC, then U-TEC Epoxy primer, then a coat of Hot Rod black. Primer has no UV protectors, so you can't just stop at the black primer. It needs a top coat to stop it from fading.
gilmour25 10-02-2005, 07:34 PM WHOA!
You got bored and actually painted your whole car???? I usually go for a bike ride or something when I get bored
What did you do with the inside of the doors (around the windows) and the door jams? Are they still SOP?
fendray26 10-02-2005, 07:39 PM is "hot rod black" like the flat black used on parts of a lot of old '70s mopars? (ie...superbird, charger, roadrunner)
i think it looks pretty cool, i bet it looks better in person.
joemama 10-02-2005, 07:44 PM The new color looks great.
But now with that color choice I think it needs a Flame job on the doors and maybe some chrome moon (small) hub caps. I spotted some like that the other day on a Hummer and it looked pretty cool.
Nice work. If you can post mor other photos I am sure we would all appreciate it.

Hajidub 10-02-2005, 08:22 PM Looks sorta "stealthy".
Genom 10-02-2005, 08:50 PM Now you have to lower the suspension, get some steel wheels and paint them red, add some chrome hubcaps and wide whitewall tires and you've got yourself a slick looking hot rod. Oh yeah, don't forget the lake pipes.
I like to see people thinking outside of conventional parameters when it comes to vehicles...as you have.
Thanks for the feedback.
Yeah, the color is very similar to the flat black used on the MOPAR's and other muscle cars. It is has a satin finish, not chalky like flat primer.
I hope to get the jams done this weekend, and some more pics. Right now they are still SOP. I will have to do a complete teardown of each door to get it right. When it is done, it will look like a factory paint job.
I am not sure about the flames. I was thinking of adding ghost flames; maybe silver flake or even some orange pearl. Right now I think I will keep it as is until the ski season is over. I need to work on getting more agressive tires and an entertaiment system for the long trips.
I think that the chrome moonies would be hot. It would have to be sedan delivery style with the rear windows paneled in and some traditional hot rod flames.
mveach 10-03-2005, 12:03 PM My 2 cents, It looks very good. I can see 2 ways that I think would look grate. Black wheels for that bad to the bone look or, chrome with gold rims and golde badgeing for that elegant look.
Dave_C 10-03-2005, 05:48 PM Yeah man, the chrome moonies and the panel van look would complete that whole look and be pretty bad ass...but damn it looks really cool as it sits now. Way to go!!!!! Love it.
Dave.
joerogg 10-03-2005, 06:56 PM I agree with Dave C. Get the moonies and you would have a really cool Old School" looking ride. I like the idea using flat black!! Good job!
Scooter 05 10-03-2005, 08:03 PM I like it ALOT! The matte finish is perfect for the E. Surprised the factory doesn't offer something like that. Really.
E4EveryOne 10-08-2005, 12:56 AM Thanks for the feedback.

Finally someone else that plans their life around ski season  Nice paint Job
cai88 10-08-2005, 11:45 AM hey Josh, looks like you're from Jersey. If you're from northern Jersey you should drive up to the New England meet next weekend so we can check that bad boy out!
Thanks again for the feedback. I will get some more pictures after it stops raining.
Unfortunetly, 10/16 is the only day that I can't make it. If any other meets come up, I'm in.
joemama 10-09-2005, 09:38 PM Eh HEM!
More photos please!
:)
We would like to see a bit more if that's OK with you.
Joe Mama
CHILNLO 10-09-2005, 10:33 PM That "suede" look is hot! Now all you need are the moonies and the pinstriping and your good to go.
E-Freak 10-09-2005, 10:44 PM I like the look. Kinda stealth bomber-ish. Could you run a radar trap in it and post the results for us :-D
Theelements 10-10-2005, 10:22 AM Neat color man, good work!
Eh HEM!

It cleared up a bit today, so I got a chance before dark to get some more pictures. Some are a bit grainy because of the low light. I also didn't remove the cargo for the pics; mainly because i was lazy. But, my E is usualy hauling something, so I figured that the pictures should be a true representation of it's daily use. Today it was a 65 Mustang fender and a plasma cutter. (I love that tool). Anyway here are a few more pictures. I think that it really needs some BFG's A/T's and some lift.
cai88 10-10-2005, 09:59 PM Friggen love that car! get some brush guards!! totally stealth.
DoctorJ 10-10-2005, 10:11 PM Yeah brush guards. Did you paint the panels as well?
bobhch/hchbob 10-15-2005, 12:09 AM Nice Look! Welcome to the EOC. :)
Thanks for posting more pics. You really did a nice job.
Noticed you put "Other" for your color(ha,ha)....That is a lot easier to understand than "HRB". Just looking at your E makes me want to get a paintbrush out and do some old fashioned stripping to it. Like in the magazine Old Skool Rods.(my favorite mag)
Just got the BFG AT tires...225/70/16s and love them. Vroooom, vroooom, vroooom, Screeeeeeatch....Yeah Baby! Keep you pet frogs off the roads cause I really want to flatten something soon. E gone Tank now!
joemama 10-20-2005, 12:44 PM Man I think that's my next color. That looks really great. Thank you for posting the additional photos.
Now do you wax a paint job like that?
Joe Mama
SRLNCLT 10-20-2005, 05:15 PM Yeah that is hot!!!! What brand and size tires you got on there?
