I ordered a Black Y 5 speed on January 28. My dealer assured me that the order was placed immediately and then each month passed with no word of a delivery date. First April was promised, then May, and finally yesterday I was informed that it is due to come with the July allocation for my dealer. I do not yet have a VIN but was told I should get that soon. I have never before waited this long for an ordered vehicle. In 1997 I waited 8 weeks for a factory ordered Chevrolet Express van and thought that was a long time. The one consolation I have regarding the long wait for the Element is that all of the production line bugs should be worked out by then. My grandmother always said that anticipation was better than the reality. I hope that isn't true in this case.

 That is crazy!! I'd be asking for a copy of the paperwork PROVING it was ordered!

We ordered Feb 2, and picked up May 10. Sunset Orange Pearl 5sp Y

I didn't think the Black was as hard to get as the SOP :?:

What city are you from, maybe there's a dealership close by with one in stock!!

PS i copied this from babychai:

FYI, I went to North Markham today (sat May 10) and they had 5 elements in the lot...(at least 2 were sold) 3 EBP, 1 SOP and 1 SSM

dm carly ....call North Markham!!...905-477-2451 ask for Charles, tell him Brenda Brown told you to call...

I am glad that I didn't have to wait. I had to get rid of a crappy 2000 Windstar that I had the misfortune of buying. Took a $4000 loss on the trade in to what I owed and then picked up my SOP a day and a half later. It was the showroom DX model.
If I had to wait I would have went crazy!!!!!!!!!
God only knows what I would have got for the Ford if I had to wait 2 months longer

Hi,
I ordered mine february 2 and I had my SOP 2WD Y package last monday !
I really enjoy to drive this element :P The shifter is really smooth and fun to use and the motor is smooth, torquey and powerful 8)
(Before to signed my contract with Honda, I was only able to drive (dealer road test) two time an AWD version with automatic transmission...
For me, This 5 speed stick is really a "much" for fun to drive factor :)

I ordered my E May 6 and was told to expect it the first week of June. I got a call at the beginning of this week letting me know it was in early. I've already gone to visit it at the dealership (they still had some stuff to install) and I pick it up tomorrow morning. Start to finish I waited 23 days, got a good deal, and great service. My heart goes out to you guys that have the long waits. Someone was tracking the vin #s to see where they were - if it's of any interest mine is #767.
Hope you hear some good news soon. :?

I just came across this wicked website! I am totally looking fwd to finally getting me Element but, I am still feeling the pain of waiting - ordered my Galapagos Green (GG - I love that name) Y package Feb 22nd and was told 2-3 weeks, then mid April, then last week of April. Last time I spoke to the dealership they told me the scheduled build date is May 28th - today! I'm scared to call them in case it's delayed even further! Oh well, it's be worth the wait - sorry to see that I'm not the only one waiting! Hey, when something is THIS hot, it's gotta be worth it right!

Soon to be GG on the Danforth! :D

The wait is now over for me! I pick mine up tonight.
11 weeks total waiting time. (Now that's what I call foreplay!) It did arrive ahead of schedule though. I was originally told it would be sometime in July. I am very glad that I waited though because ultimately I got the vehicle of my choice with the options of my choice.

SOP "Y" 5spd. mudguards, chrome pipe, chrome wheel locks & carpet matts.

My heart goes out to anyone who is still waiting.

Thanks! Mine was originally supposed to arrive in July too but it is here earlier than expected. I hope that the same happens for you.

I ordered mine in March.

I know how tough the waiting is. I'll keep my fingers crosse for you.

Well I have finally taken delivery of my much anticipated E!
I am now the proud owner of an awesome Galapagos Green Y Package (EX I guess they call it in the states). I picked it up last Thursday and promply headed to Elora Gorge on a camping trip (it was cool inner tubing through the gorge too). Of course the E swallowed up all my gear with room to spare! The stereo rocks, the drive is sweet and the power seems adequate (although I moved up from a 97 Civic), so I've been grinning from ear to ear all week, and I love the stares from onlookers!!!

Here it is, July 10 and I am still waiting. My dealer thought he had a trade for the one I wanted with another dealer for June 24, but that fell through. I told him that I expected that because of how hot the Element is selling. He still assures me that mine will arrive with his July allocation.
Just one word of advice to any potential buyers: Make sure that you get an honest answer regarding how many the dealer is being allocated for the year. My dealer is only allocated 18 Elements for the whole year. I talked to Honda Canada and they confirmed that number and given the popularity of the Element, that number will not change. I thought about taking my business to another dealer, but my dealer gave me the best deal on my trade-in, so I will wait it out.

Mine (green 5spd Y package) is waiting for me a Waterloo Honda... ordered it on June 21 & they new then that I would get it between July 10-16.

I think going to a high volume dealership that has trading leverage makes a huge difference... I talked to a number of dealerships & settled on Waterloo Honda as they gave me the most confidence in the their ability to get what I wanted.

Hello...I'm new to this board. I was waiting to actually have the keys to my dear E before signing in ...well at this rate I'll be wishin' all of you merry xmas before I sign in so I've decided that this subject was the perfect start for me...well...us
I ordered a GG E at the start of february and still haven't seen the shadow of it. We're July 15 th and I'm getting a 2003 not even a 2004 !!!!!! What the hell is wrong with Honda anyway. I too was given the runaround...and it continues. I was told that it was going to be built on june 24th and shipped to Mtl btw July 7 and 10th...Now I'm being told...well...it should come in any day now...but we just dunno...grrrrr... This makes it difficult to sell one's old car to another party ! Anyways I am hoping for a happy ending and soon please..... BTW has anyone found out a way to get cheaper accessories in Canada ?

The wait continues. On the 28th it will be 6 months since ordering.
However, the latest news is an improvement. The dealer assured me that it was actually built on July 24 and I should have a VIN in a few days. Delivery is now promised to be no later than August 8.
So, this fall you should be seeing a Black E making the commute from Oshawa to Toronto every day. From what I have been reading on this site, the E should make that daily tedious adventure much more enjoyable.

I feel like the guy in the VW commercial, sitting in his Jetta waiting for the guys to finish building his car. I ordered our EBP 2WD Y in late June and was told that 2 were coming in from late July to early August. When I called at the end of July the told the VIN number was in and the car was being built. First of all I was disappointed in having to wait longer, but then I thought how cool is that to have ordered the E and then have it built for me. The timeline is now between Aug 10 and 20 and the wait is still killing. But the end is in sight and a total of hopefully only a six week wait. I can't to get behind the wheel of my built for me E. Very cool.

Ordered January 28 and got the VIN today (August 6). It arrives at the dealership tomorrow. I hope the E lives up to all the anticipation that has built up over the last 6 months. :D

That is the worst wait time that I have ever heard of. I have the luxury of travelling all over the place and have come across maybe 20 Elements that could have been bought on the spot. This is of course only in the last 3 months. I think you are very patient and maybe even a little nuts to have given the dealership that much time to come up with your "E"

Surely you could have gotten 1 sooner.
What colour did you get? Twenty carat gold?
Were you dealing with Whitby Oshawa Honda? If it was Pickering Honda and you ordered SOP I have seen it on the lot for 2 days

Sorry gang, but my wife and I were able to walk into to two different dealerships this summer both had Elements ready for purchase. They only just arrived on the lots that day. We chose the SSM 2WD Y and picked it up a week later [it still needed to be PDI'd]. We were lucky 'cause by the end of the weekend most were sold. I did hear about a three month waiting list afterwards.

My new NBP 5spd arrived at the dealership today. I actually got to see it. I will be picking it up Monday afternoon. There are some consolations for waiting 6 months: a) I paid off my 2002 Civic which is being traded in and have had no car payments for several months now. b) Since my trade is paid off my payments on the Element will be less and for a shorter term.
c) Most of the early production bugs should be all worked out now. d) Most importantly, it took my 3 and a half year old girl this long to accept trading in "her" red Civic for a Black Element. She was actually somewhat enthused when she saw it today. :D

Today is Christmas eve for me. The dealer called and said that my E has arrived by train and will be in the dealership within the next couple of days :D . It's taken almost 7 weeks to get here, had to be built, but now the long wait is almost over. Very excited. My EBP 2wd EX 5spd is the first new vehicle I've owned. Christmas does come in August lol. Ok I'll let you all know when i pick it up. See ya.

On January 28 I ordered an NBP Element Y 5spd and now on August 11 it is finally sitting in my driveway! :D
The dealer was kind enough to throw in keyless entry free of charge and not adjust the value of my trade downward, even though 6 months had passed since it was evaluated.
I plan to keep this E for at least 10 years, so a trip to Krown RustControl is next on the agenda. And yes, the reality exceeded expectations. I had not driven the E with a 5spd prior to taking delivery of mine and the transmission is sweet. There is plenty of power and I have absolutely no complaints about the view from the inside. After all, I learned to drive in a '65 Ford Econoline Van and have always owned a full-size van since. I currently own a '97 Chev Express - talk about a huge box on wheels! The E is a sports car in comparison.

As opposed to waiting months and weeks, would it be possible to buy across the border and register it back home?

I know there are financing issues here, but just supposing. . .

isketerol
09-12-2003, 11:30 PM
Nope, not doable. Different speedo, odometer, etc. etc.

zetemo_52
09-14-2003, 09:59 AM
I have driven at least a couple of rental cars -- not Honda -- that had LCD displays for the odometer, and a button to toggle between miles and kilometers. Come to think of it, I believe the speedometer was digital, and it was switchable too.

My own car -- again not Honda -- has an outer circle of mph numbers and an inner circle of kph numbers. When I go to Canada or Mexico, I program myself to focus on the inner circle. My odometer doesn't switch, so I have to keep my mental arithmeticker turned on.

All the other stuff seems to work. I have to turn off the arithmeticker when I buy gas in C$ per litre to avoid sticker shock.

Long ago when I was in the military and stationed in Japan, there were some GIs who had brought their American cars over. Speeds were posted in kph and these guys could get in military trouble over a civilian speeding ticket. What they did was make tiny stickers indicating where the typical speed limits were (e.g. for 100 kph they put a dot at 62 mph) and kept themselves out of the commander's office.

isketerol
09-14-2003, 10:41 AM
Yes, some cars have both kph and mph on them, but the Canadian government will not let an American car be imported w/o converting it to the same specs as the Canadian model. It's just not worth it.

Loads of other bureaucratic issues and the like to overcome.
