: gutting the E - 2005

I'm in the process of gutting my E to raammat and run wires. And it seems that the claims that the 05 is more quiet have some truth as it seems there is more 'honda' deadning in the back of my E than in the pictures of 03 and 04's stripped that I have seen on this board (granted I've never seen one in person).
I'm not gonna document what I am doing so much as I am mainly 'standing on the shoulders of giants' but if anyone wants some pictures of something or whatever while I'm in the process ask quickly and I'll be happy to post ;) Just thought I'd post these because I thought it was interesting, and to ask those more experienced....just raammat right on top of the honda goop?

only stripped the rear so far. BTW I must say, Box4rox has some beer coming his way if we ever meet. his tutorials on breaking down the E have made the process go smoother than I could have hope for. (i know I'm just starting)

now that I look again it seems to be mainly the rear wheel wells, but interesting anyways.

bonanz, can I come over and play? I look at your empty car and immediately think, "I'd like to start all over again." The fun is in the creating. :)

Ahhhh. reminds me of mine, every day this week. Apparently, even though they knew I was coming in to have my system done, Mike didnt put in the order for more Dynamat and so that's why they still have it. I get mine back Monday (one week later) minus the sub box, which I will get Tuesday and tune a bit, as it is fall break for me and I can afford to spend most of the day in the shop.

It is crazy how big these cars are without anything in them. Good luck to you, bro, I decided it would be less stressful to let someone else do the hard stuff, and if they mess up I have someone to blame!

Have fun with it.

after day one I have basically done the floor, lol! I'm exhausted. I think laying the mat today I spent a little too much time exploring my naked car, hopefully tomorrow I can lay more mat like john henry drives steel.

Hopefully tomorrow I can do the rear sides, then run some wire and reassemble the floor, then hopefully start the doors.

If I'm lucky finish, or be close to it monday night... I'm really going to push for it :-o

I'll keep my fingers crossed. time to sleep the aches away

Hey - great job !!

I'm glad my pics were able to help you. Have you gotten to the part of the installation yet where your wife comes out and says:

" How much did that cost ?"

and your daughter comes out and says: (using her Valley Girl voice)

"Oh . . . My. . . . God"

and they both say:

"You love your car more than us . . . " :)

It was good to see that Honda has added some mat to the rear wheel wells for the '05; it confirms what we already knew

Keep up the good work; I know it's worth the effort !!

(un?)luckily, I have neither a wife or a daughter, so the only voice I hear calling me crazy is in my head.

also, can someone help me to make sure I don't order the wrong part, for a friend.... lets just say, hypothetically, someone was attempting what I'm attempting and, oh I don't know....cracked the passenger door panel when attempting to remove it.

Would this person be looking at the correct part on majestic:
1471748 015 1 BASE, R. DOOR GRAPHITE BLACK 22.35

majestic page (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Element&catcgry2=2005&catcgry3=5DR+LX+2WD&catcgry4=KA4AT&catcgry5=FRONT+DOOR+LINING)

is 22 bucks right? it'll probably cost an arm for shipping though.... this person may as well go through the dealer...or is he/she looking at the wrong part :|

Tell your, uhh, friend, that I think that's the right panel.

Congratulations. My, uhh, friend broke part #10 taking apart the front door.

bonanz, you and I need better friends.

I found Majestic Honda to be high in terms of shipping. They are fast, shipping everything FedEx 2-3 day, but I bought a $27 part from them that cost me $38 to get in. The biggest problem is with their website. You can't find out what the shipping price is going to be. You order and they just charge you for shipping, whatever it will be. They don't even email you for an authorization.

You might want to try other Honda parts sites (I have them bookmarked at home and I'm at work right now) to see if you can get the door panel shipped in UPS Ground and save yourself some money.

Friday I bought a $5 part from my local Honda dealer that I could have gotten on line for $3.50 plus shipping. My dealer charged me $12. I figure it was probably a wash, buying it from the the dealer or on line.

wish it was an EX so you could show me where the XM tuner mounts in the back and the wiring to it.

For parts and shipping, done your way:

Send a private message to "HandA", AKA: Trevor, who is (I think) the parts guy at H-and-A.

He is very responsive/customer-friendly to EOC-ers and you can have a human being to deal with, instead of a webpage/robot.

everything was reassembled and back to normal for half of tday, now i try leaving work and my car won't start, plus there is a weird clicking noise from the fuse box area, anyoen have any ideas???? what did I hose up....

edit:

I got a jump, the battery was totally drained, but now my head unit is fuxx0red...the screen just displays all white. I disconnected the ground distribution block and removed the fuse on the power cable. My car seems okay, except i think my keyless entry won't lock, but it unlocks... wtf

got it back from the shop today, they inspected my install and gave it a clean bill of health.... after I jumped it, I reset the head unit and disconnected the amps....they reconnected everything and checked out all the wiring and said it was fine, didn't charge me anything because they didn't feel like they did anything...

now everything seems fine even my keyless... weird stuff man.... hopefully I'll clean up my wiring and never have a similar problem

Kindof reminds me of my old German VW Jetta with the electrical demons hiding out in the electrical system lol
