: Possible Alpine Setup Concerns
cloud9respect 10-12-2005, 01:59 PM OK, howabout this.........
The Rear 2 Speakers:
Alpine SPR-17LP
The Front 4 Speakers:
Alpine SPR-17LS
The Amplifier (for the above speakers):
Alpine MRP-F240
The Sub:
Alpine SWR-1242D
The Amplifier (for the sub alone):
MRD-M605
What would that sound like?
My only concern is that the component speakers will be underpowered with that amp. Is this true, or will it be able to be loud without being drowned in bass?

outpost4 10-12-2005, 02:14 PM Agreed. You need more power for the front speakers. How about using something more basic for the rear speakers, say Alpine's SPS-170A 6 1/2" coax speakers, and running them off of deck power, and getting a bigger amp for your mains, say two of Alpine's MRP-T220, each bridged to mono, to drive your front speakers? That would cost less and play louder.
EDIT: You could also just use a bridged MRP-F240 as a stereo amp for the fronts. It wouldn't be quite as much power as two bridged MRP-T220s but it would be cheaper. I like the idea of two bridged MRP-T220s myself but YMMV.
cloud9respect 10-13-2005, 02:41 PM That's a good idea.
One other question....I have another vehicle with a similar setup.
It is a 96 Honda Prelude and I set it up with 2 12" E-series subs in the trunk.
But what I did differently than how I want to setup my Element is that I used a Sony Xplod 1200W 2 channel amp to power the Alpine subs.
However, the factory speakers in that car now sound like.....well, let's just say that all I hear is bass. I have the HU (Kenwood X789) setup with the sub output as -7, and you can still hear me coming a block away listening to Bjork.
So, now I have a new issue. I have a car with overpowering bass and crappy to non-existant mids and highs.
My question about that car is.....can't I just get a set of Alpine R-series components for the front and run a simple 2 channel generic 200watt amp for them? Will that help at all, or will I need a good setup in front and back for that car as well?
I never in a million years thought that I would be looking for up my mids and highs in a vehicle, but it's my wife's and she is not happy with all the bass I have given her. :(
Suggestions for that car as well?
G-force 10-13-2005, 03:05 PM I'm running SPX comps off of T320's in my GTI and they seem to power them sufficiently.
The F240 will not be enough power for your doors.
I have a mint in box F407 V12 if you're interested. It would power your speakers perfectly and is much cleaner than anything previously mentioned.
outpost4 10-13-2005, 03:13 PM First, keep your wife happy. Second, keep your wife happy. Third, keep your wife happy.
Can I assume that in addition to turning down the sub on the deck you've also turned down the gain pots on the amp? If that is the case, then yes, you can just replace the front speakers and leave the rears alone. The front speakers would be driven off the the amp with the rears staying on deck power. A couple of other things: Why settle for a generic amp when that little Alpine MRP-T220 would do the job nicely? You might also want to consider the Alpine Type-S components instead of the Type-R. While not quite as good sounding, they do sound prefectly respectable and are more efficient, which means they will play louder and have a better chance of keeping up with your woofers.
The Type-S components would also be significantly cheaper which means you'll have money left over to take your wife out to dinner this weekend and keep her happy. :)

cloud9respect 10-13-2005, 03:35 PM Outpost, that is a good point as well.
I guess the only reason I am looking at a generic amp is because I have 2, 2-channel generic amps just collecting dust. I could in theory use 1 for the front, and 1 for the rear, but where would I put them and can you run 3 amps in 1 car without a capacitor?
Oh well. I may wait til' I have more $$$ so I can get all Alpine equipment.
I just never knew Alpine made stuff this good. If I had known that I would have bought all Alpine to begin with, but it would have taken longer as Alpine stuff isn't cheap.
outpost4 10-13-2005, 03:56 PM I guess the only reason I am looking at a generic amp is because I have 2, 2-channel generic amps just collecting dust. Use it for the fronts if it's lying around.

You wouldn't need the cap under any case (caps are over-valued) but do use 4 gauge wire to your power distribution and 8 gauge wire after that.

That still rocks. :)
Before the car rusted away, I had a/d/s/ components, and my first subwoofer, an a/d/s/ 10", in my (then new) 1981 Civic.
Hummm...there's a new thread idea here. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-1/940070/1197.gif
gibroni 10-14-2005, 11:34 PM If you look at Crutchfield or maybe the Alpine websites they list an award winning all alpine system for under a grand. Alpne has been the top name in car audio since, um well, before you were born. Going back 30 years at least. Alpine WAS car audio. Making their products available in Best Buy and Crutchfield may have cheapenend the brand a little IMO, but they've always made top notch products. I had an all alpine system in my 83 hurst/olds cutlass and an alpine head with a/d/s/ amplifiers and component speakers and sub in my 90 CRX.
