: Peanut butter is great

well after searching around, it seems that peanut butter is the way to go to get wax off. I didi it on my NBP about an hour ago and it worked awesome. now the area where i used it now looks better than the rest of the panel though. would there be any drawback form using it on all my panels prior to washing my car? then i followed it up with eagle one WAUD and she's looking great.

I think you can obtain basically the same result with vegetable oil. The advantage is that it is much less messy than PB (especially if you like jam with your PB :) ). If you are going to use it on all panels do it AFTER you wax and then rinse the panels off.

yeah but with the vegetable oil isn't as easy to spread evenly. and you don't need so much pb that it gets messy

i just pour vegetable oil on a paper towel to clean up the edges after i was.

then wipe with a clean paper towel to finish it up.

easier than the PB approach...

I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a light balsamic vinagrette to get the wax off....It works great and tastes even better!

PB easy to spread on panels?!?!

I guess you must be using the smooth not crunchy

I'm new to HEOC, so please explain the peanut butter.
I found ArmorAll wipe in the purple canister works well to remove wax from the fenders.

yes smooth is the way to go. And the peanut butter puts the oils back into the plastic. which removes the white paste left on the panels by the wax. the amorall however more than likely is silicone based, and silicone can sometimes be a nightmare.

Yes it is. But even better it not getting it on the plastic in the first place! LOL
Here is me with my cousins Element after someone got wax on the plastic.

I'd hate to spoil anybody's fun spreading Skippy on his car, but since it's the oil in peanut butter that must do the trick, isn't peanut oil available, at least at health food stores?

Probably more expensive than a jar of Skippy, though. And if any vegetable oil does the same, I'd guess other oils would be less expensive.

Just a thought. I do believe I'd be paying whatever the premium is for peanut oil before I'd spread my snack food on my car. I'm in the woods far from neighbors, but if one saw me doing that, I suspect burly men in white coats might show up with a straight jacket to take me away!

Eh, I don't care what my neighbors think. They all know if they want their car to look better than new to come to me anyway. LOL Plus, Peanut Oil just runs off the car. I prefer the peanut butter because it won't run and it will sit and eat away at the old wax buildup for 20 minutes if you want to. I let that one sit for almost a half an hour.

Never mind the Burly men! It's the damed Squerrils. They eat the plastic trash cans. I wont give them a reason to look at My E !!!!!!!!!

OK, so I washed Samantha. I'd say it's about a 7 foot job---meaning it looks pretty good till you get about 7 feet away, at which point the imperfections become more noticeable.

I'm going to try vegetable oil on the panels. One possible improvement---Pam. Spraying it on may be easier than trying to pour a dab on a paper towel etc.

Edit: 24 hours + later, it looks pretty good. If you like the "wet/glossy" look, then it looks *terrific*!

Advice: If you're going to try it, spray the canola on your paper towel instead of directly on the panels. I think the application will be more even that way.

I am a little concerned though b/c it's collecting a little dust. We had a lot of rain recently, so it isn't very dusty to begin with. The dust isn't noticeable until you run a finger along it, but under dry conditions, it might look more like a cinnamon-powdered donut. I expect the water would run right off it though, so a careful spritzing/hosing might fix that.

I also wonder if, in the Dallas heat that is to come, this wouldn't get a rancid funk, sitting in the garage. Sure, you don't use all that much but who knows? It might not be the best to use if you're camping in, say, bear country, either.

This is a funny thread. Peanut butter: $3.25. Picture of Danse applying it: Priceless.:)

Seems appropriate to mention that March is National Peanut Month (http://www.2dolphins.com/2006/03/its-national-peanut-month.html).

Years ago I was published in one of the audiophile magazines advocating spreading peanut butter on a turntable's tonearm to dampen vibrations. The editor came up with the headline Calling Betty Crocker.

I'm glad to see peanut butter has 101 uses, and only a couple of them are in bed. :)

I was just looking this up on the internet. Did you know that among all the uses George Washington Carver found for the peanut, putting pb/peanut oil on the fender plastic on Honda Elements was #13? He found that one pretty early on!

But seriously. Samantha's panels are starting to attract more and more dust, and it's only been a week. And of course, once it lands on the oil, it ain't leaving of its own accord. Too bad it isn't antistatic.

I wonder how the pb contingency did. As for canola, I won't be doing that again. After washing and putting on some orange Fantastic, a lot of the oil came out of the panels, but not all. Oh well, it looked great that first day. Then I noticed some oil dripping from the molding above the windows etc.

The plan now is to let the oil work its way out and then I'll be Empire-ing my trim.

What a laugh-riot. They call me lazy, but wait - I AM! Three years later and there's been enough elbow grease expended by the obsessive-compulsive members here to shine up the panels on every Element that's ever rolled off the assembly line.

I've washed mine by hand zero (0) times. Waxed it the same number of times (0), and never even gotten peanut butter on the panels by accident! Yeah, mine won't be winning any prizes at SEMA, but it still looks just exactly as nice as it did the day I picked it up three years ago. And my expenses to maintain it look even better.

Feel free to inspect mine at the national meet and criticize the finish on the panels (or the floors that have never been washed or covered with mats or carpets). And to think I've been under the impression that one of the theories behind the plastic panels in the first place was reducing maintenance! Ok, the site needs someone to be wrong all the time. Luckily, I'm comfortable in the role.

OK, back to my nap........
