how hard was it to take off the roof trim panels?

not hard at all...just pull. most of the clIps will break when you take them off so be prepared to buy about $50 worth of them.

Awesome job man! This is probably the sleekest (dunno if that's really a word) version of the painted panels scheme I've yet to see! And you've done a great job of documenting the progress too!

Coupla suggestions:

Seems like the rear deflector ought to be the same color as the other painted surfaces at the roofline level. Would make it seem more of an integral part.
Likewise, it might be worth the while to paint the metal on your side steps to match the panels down at the bottom so they also seem more integral instead of added on.

But again, you've done a great job on this and really have something to be proud of!!

actually, rob, i've been planning on painting the roof and the rear deflector black. i was waiting for it to cool down. it's gets pretty damn hot in charleston. as far as the side steps i'm not into painting them. the powder coating is tough and can handle all the rocks and debris being thrown from the front tires. if anything i'd like to chrome them but that's one of the last things on my list.

hey loco, thanks man. as far as the headlights i heated them up with a heat gun so i could remove the clear lenses. after that i removed the amber lenses from inside. i replaced the clear bulbs with an amber led bulbs which i ended up replacing with chromed standard bulbs. someone on here put their headlamps in the oven for a few minutes to melt the seal to access the amber lenses inside. i wish i would have thought of that when i did mine. thanks again.

fendray26 what is the color of black you used to paint the top? if so do you have a part number?

the top color is honda nighthawk black metallic code #b92p.
the middle color is porsche seal grey code #6b4.
the lower color is honda satin silver code #nh623m

also i am trying to educate myself on spray guns.

as far as paint guns....i know there's syphon feed, gravity feed, hvlp (high volume low pressure), you need to know which size tip to use ( ie, 1.2 through 1.8 ), there are good brands such as sata or iwata (both are very expensive)....i'm not a painter so all of this is just stuff i hear through the years at work. the actual purpose or advantage of each of these items i can't actually tell you. if i did know then my response would probably be 3 pages long.

i do know that the tip size determines on the spray shape/size but i'm sure you could've figured that out. i've only personally painted a couple of times under supervision. it's just not my thing. automotive painting is very difficult and includes many variables which can affect your final result negitively. it takes years of practice and natural skill. i have a lot of respect for people in the automotive industry. now if you asked me about playing bass then i could answer that. best of luck to you.

i suppose you could consider it a custom job...i did it myself. they are audiobahn as65q speakers. right now i have one in all four doors running straight off the head unit. they are too deep to fit in the factory openings so i had to do some modifying. i expected them to sound horrible by the ever present "positive" feedback i've grown to accept here on the threads. http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18053
i couldn't be happier with the way they sound. for the price i would assume lower quality all around but i think they sound great. especially without an amp.

Their mounting does look good. I noticed it, too.

I thought you unjustly took a beating in that previous thread. Who is to say a $1 worth of chrome plating is worse than a special to the dealer that gives them a $1 off per speaker or a spiff to the manufacturer's rep that earns them an extra $1 in commission? What ever moves the stuff out of the back room into the customer's hands is OK in my book. Audiobahn is fine by me. An awful long time ago I learned I wasn't buying the stereo equipment; the customer was. My opinion of their purchase meant diddily-squat.

thanks, outpost. i'm not mad or anything, i just think it's silly that some people never learned the lesson back in kindergarten "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all". now i understand i asked for people's input but there's a difference between input and bull#@it. who cares if the back of the speaker is chrome? i wouldn't care if it was pink with yellow stripes as long as it sounds good and in my opinion these sound pretty damn good for the price i paid for them ($87.80 for 4 speakers shipping included). i'm sorry but i couldn't beat that price anywhere. of course my first choice were maybe cerwin-vegas, jl audio, boston acoustics or focals but the prices got up into the thousands for what i really wanted. i'm happy with my decision (luckily  ) and i'm looking forward to how they sound with an amp. thanks again.

fendray26, are you aware of the laws for headlights and side markers. i am sure they vary from state to state. i am thinking since i have moded my side markers to blink and installed a clear amber buld, i should be able to use an white bulb in the headlight. any idea's.

yes, i used a butcher knife...you should know that's the only tool worth a damn in the deep south.

no really, you should try getting that radio bezel off...it's not easy. besides, i decided i'm going to replace those parts when the time comes to sell my element anyway so i used force.

Haha - Great minds think alike . . . :) I have the EXACT same marks on my bezel and also need to replace mine. If there is a tool or magic secret, I'd like to know about it :-?

Scary how similar ours turned out . . .

There is a set of plastic tools that are supposed to prevent that. I have not tried them (because I figure I would screw mine up) but I think they may help.....for now, I will leave mine attached and deal with the cords draped all over.

This thread has some info:

If I decide to pull it off....I'm going to start looking for one of these first:

That is EXACTLY why I have not pulled mine off yet.....i have been tempted but just don't want it to end up looking like that. But....the replacements are pretty cheap so that makes it a little easier.

Hey fendray, what's up guy? Glad to hear the family is doing well, wife happy with the MEB and baby girl is doing what babies do.

As for the ride, I haven't seen it and I don't think anyone here has. If you recall, I asked you if you knew who had it and it the EOC sticker stayed on the back of it. Dealership probably scrapped it off for a stealership label. That was one nice Element you had. You set the standard early and gave guys/gals something to shoot for. There's no telling where your sled is my friend. Any chance the dealership knows? I know when I let my first one go, they told me who had it and where he lived but I've never made contact but I have a general idea where he lives but I've yet to see my previous E either.

Any thoughts of coming back with another one?

Anyway, saw your post and wanted to get back. Take care and peace!

I read this thread from the begining to the end. Your E was very unique. I'm sad to see it no longer in the EOC community. Im sorry to hear about your marriage at least you have that beautiful daughter. Good luck
