: does 2 snows vs 4 snows voids warranty ?

Just go an Element EX 2wd this past month. Went to the local Mavis tire dealer to get 2 new snows for the front. Said they wouldn't do it for it may void the warranty and wouldn't do it unless I can convince them otherwise. I argued for a few minutes but couldn't sway them. Can't seem to find anything documented. Not sure if I trust the dealer to give me a straight answer.

Any bonafide sites or docs I can refer to ? Many thanks to all who have already been in this mess ! :)

It is really not a good ideal to put only 2 snow tires on IMHO but I can't see it being a warranty issue. You are not going to wear out or damage any drivetrain components with just snow tires on the front.

Just curious as to why you only want to get 2 snows? You're better off with 4 for the added traction, stability and safety. You wouldn't have to worry about different tires reacting differently in the cold.

As for voiding your Honda warranty? Is that the one you're referring to? So long as the tires are the same size and the same make/model is on each axle and not a mish mash of things all over the place I don't see what the issue would be for Mavis.

maybe he's saying if you total your car you can't blame it on the tires. ie. tire's warranty is void

The "experts" will tell you that if you are only going to use 2 snow tires, then they should go on the back, even if the vehicle is front wheel drive. The reasoning is that when braking, your rear end stays in place. If the snow tires are on the front, the front will brake faster and the rear end will break loose and throw you out of control.

The Insurance carrier for your tire dealer won't allow them to install 2 snows only- too much liability if there is a difference in traction from front to rear.

What they are doing is refusing to do the 2 winter tire install and blaming it on Honda's warranty rather than giving you the straight story.

Should only do 4 snows (Or three if your vehicle only has three wheels :) ) because only putting 2 on can cause a serious imbalance in the handling characteristics of the vehicle. I don't really blame them for not wanting to do it. Good luck with your snow tire quest though.
