: Another Windshield Bites The Dust.....
StLouisPenguin 05-16-2003, 03:39 PM On Monday I drove to Chicago.....80 miles outside of Chicago BAM!!! 18 wheeler thre a rock and I didn't even have to look to know that they My E Took one for the team....and as I turned my head the crack started to head up my windshield and then turned and started cutting across the center!
I guess my good Element Karma has finally disapated!
And to top it off my dealer in St. Louis didn't have one in stock.....I feel like such a hooiser (no offense to IN E owners) driving around with a big ole crack in my windshield as I wait for a new windshield.
Luckily my deductable is only $100...beats the $360 the dealer is charging.
misfit 05-16-2003, 04:15 PM
bummer about your E, but glad your ok... when your pride and joy isn't absolutly perfect, it can really shoot down your mood. no way honda will pick up the tab.?.... even though it was from a pebble, there is still a known problem... Hmmmm, your rite, why fight it... just take a valium and relax...
StLouisPenguin 05-16-2003, 04:23 PM Road debris is not Honda's problem.....and when I went to the dealer today to get an estimate on the Damage caused by The Car wash (old post)....I stopped by the service department to get the low down on the service bulletin....and to quote "Chuck" the service department manager.... "The Service bulletin only covers cracks in the lower corners that have no point of impact. The problem can only be correct when you have a cracked windshield." And then he went on to say "The Element's windshiled has to be cut out when it is removed, so that is why it can not be checked until the issues show's itself"
I makes me so angry!!! I have been driving for 12 years and never a chip, crack or anything to my windshield....I just hope this doesn't happen every 3,000 miles....because at that rate I will replace my windshield at least 33 times during my E ownership!
Done Ranting.....eating left over jelly beans from easter (too cheap to buy valium)....feeling better alreday....Oooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh SUGAR HIGH!!!! Oh....must find Empire Records Soundtrack....need to hear song!
misfit 05-16-2003, 05:38 PM eating left over jellybeans when you have THESE (http://www.baskweb.com/store/1032603/images/FamilyMovieNight.jpg) at your disposal...

StLouisPenguin 05-16-2003, 05:41 PM Thank You Misfit
It just went live this week....I guess I will just have to wait and see
Now I just have to nail down my marketing strategy!
TheLusciousHellcat 05-16-2003, 06:23 PM Oh that's a damned shame about the windshield.
Here, I'll knock wood, and my old wooden head, that this doesn't happen again. :::knockknock ouch::::
Best of luck to you for 100% problem free enjoyment of your E in the future.
StLouisPenguin 05-16-2003, 08:11 PM Thank You Kim

I have never seen a windsheild that needs to be "cut out". I have had about 5 replaced over the past 15 years on our cars, and this is a new one to me. Can anyone with windsheild give more info on this? Thanks
isketerol 05-18-2003, 06:08 AM Sorry to see you so upset, StLouisPenguin. Hang in there. As a colleague of mine says at work when things are going well, "It's all good". You'll be saying that soon.
dougola 05-18-2003, 06:17 PM Is the crack that originates in the corner an inherent one and does having the windshiled replaced after the crack eliminate an encore performance by the new windshleld? :?: Luckily, down here in Florida the law requires a new one free from you insurance company if it's something like a rock that bounces onto it and causes a crack.

StLouisPenguin 05-18-2003, 06:55 PM My dealer says that they will check for the service bulletin issue when they install the new windshield. They say that the problem covered by the service bulletin is a rubbing that causes the windshield to just spontaniously crack....the crack in my windshield was caused by a rock thrown from an 18 wheeler.
Simon 05-19-2003, 06:39 PM It took less than 10 days and < than 500 miles to get my windshield cracked.
Still a great vehicle. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat.
tripster 05-22-2003, 07:31 AM from quote - - "And then he went on to say "The Element's windshiled has to be cut out when it is removed, so that is why it can not be checked until the issues show's itself" -- - --
That guy is wrong. I had my windshield replaced by my insurance carriers subcontractor. The service tech removed the access hatch so he could pull out the rubber seal and the windshield came right out. Put a replacement in in about 20 minutes.
As he was working another windshield/glass service guy drove by and they talked shop for a while (what gauge seal? , come out easy? brand?).
Those guys replace close to 20 windshields a day. This one is no different.
:)
tigernumber6 05-22-2003, 10:20 AM Tripster is right.
I had my winshield replaced at work and a buddy and me watched the guy do it. Didn't have to cut it out.
burnt-O 05-22-2003, 01:49 PM Well, add me to the list! I was driving to work yesterday when BANG! big rock hit my windsheild. Just left a little starburst, though, and it did not crack yesterday or today. My insurance co sent someone out to fix it AND waived my deductable. I also found out that if I ever have to replace it, it will only cost me 50 bucks!
