: Hiding wires for XM Roady 2?
brokenjack 11-07-2005, 08:37 PM I'm sure this has been covered about a billion times, but I just can't seem to come up with decent search results with pictures. Apologies to all.
:End of excuse:
All I want to do is mount my roady2 and hardwire the power behind the dash. nothing fancy. I havent decided where the best place to mount it yet, but it will probably be on the left side of radio, or top of subwoofer. How and where should I run the wires for a clean install. I've already got the antenna wires running to the glove box. Is there a decent howto on removing dash pieces, sub cover, etc.? I think I saw a picture of a deloreme usb gps receiver running underneath the top dashboard in the seam a while ago.
What's the best mount to go on the sub cover?

Thanks
lwclancers 11-08-2005, 07:31 AM The sub cover comes off very easily.
As for the right hand side, open the passanger door. Tug on the long triangular piece to the right of the dash, it will come off. Remove the one visible screw there, then remove the 2 visible screws above the passaneger shelf, below the passanger dash. Then give that entire piece a tug...it will come off with the vent on the right. Then remove (I believe) screws and the flat black piece that covers the passanger shelf will come off.
At this point you have access to that space (which I used to run all my wires for my SkyFi2).
If you want more access, remove the glove box (a few screws and a little moving and it will come out).
With the dash exposed, glove box removed, and sub box removed, you will have access to that entire area, and an easy way to tap into the fise box under the driver side.
I really need to repost all my pics that were lost in the server upgrade.
ramblerdan 11-08-2005, 09:08 AM Brokenjack,
I mounted my Roadie above the sub originally and came to regret it. See this thread (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11983).
lwclancers 11-08-2005, 11:11 AM yup, i did almost the exact same thing as ramblerdan for my skyfi2...used the same bracket.
But I know the subbox can give access to routing wires to the left side since I did that to install the switch to the leds for the passanger dash.
brokenjack 11-08-2005, 06:16 PM Is there a thingy that plugs into the fuse box, like a fuse with power leads coming out of it or a place to hook up the + lead. Haven't ventured down to really inspect the fuse box yet. Any decent pictures out there that show this setup?
Genom 11-08-2005, 06:33 PM You mean like this? I used this "Add-a-circuit" for my TomTom GO installation.

Genom 11-08-2005, 06:37 PM It is then wired to a 12V accessory plug, which the TomTom adapter is attached.

brokenjack 11-08-2005, 08:27 PM Awesome Genom! Thanks! I've got this crazy notion, that if there is no picture of something, it doesn't exist. Are those add a circuits available at my neighborhood Pep Boys etc...? I guess you have to find a suitable ground somewhere up under there.
Genom 11-08-2005, 08:31 PM I found the Add-a-Circuit at AutoZone in particular, but I'm sure it is a common stock item at most automotive stores. For a ground, I ran the black wire with a ring terminal to a bolt nearby that was a factory ground point.(it had several black wires with ring terminals under it already, and was near the fuseblock)
I chose this method since the TomTom GO is a 5v unit, and the step down circuitry is in the power adapter. It is also somewhat less "permanent" than hardwiring should something fail.

I wonder if the roady2 has similar power requirements
Also I think I want to use this style of mount from Panavise

Where do you get this bracket(751171003)? Their web site doesn't have a link to purchase.
lwclancers 11-09-2005, 07:59 AM Im not sure if they have that bracket, but try gbxdirect or myradiostore.us
they carry lots of brackets, which is where I got my bracketron bracket.
Again, I will try to get some of my pics up by this weekend to helpout.
brokenjack 11-09-2005, 08:23 AM I found the Panavise bracket at http://www.installationproducts.com/
Looks like they got a bunch of other stuff too.
Does this Bracketron bracket...
