Hello,
I just got my SLM EX Element three weeks ago and I've had a question buzzing in my brain about the VIN. I would like to know how to decode the VIN. Specifically, I wanted to know how the sequence number at the end should be interpreted. Is it a reflection of the total number of Elements built thus far or is it just for that factory?

from another post by lon777 in the Miscellaneous Forum:

example - 5J6 YH1 7 2 * 3 L 000001
5j6 = Honda motor corp

YH1 = element 2wd/K24A4
YH2 = element 4wd/K24A4

7 = 5 door/5 spd manual
8 = 5 door/4 spd automatic

2 = DX
5 = EX with ABS
6 = EX with side airbags and ABS

* = Check digit

3 = Model year (2003)

L = factory code (East Liberty Ohio)

000001 = Serial number (U.S.)
800001 = Serial number (Canada)

also, this was noted on the thread as well
