: Floor mat for entire rear area...

Anyone know of a heavy-duty rubber mat to fit the entire rear area with seats lifted? I'd like to find something heavy-duty enough to be able to slide heavy gear around without ruining the original floor.

Dunno if this is what you want longterm, but I asked some local carpet guys for an end roll scrap to fit the back of my E. I just slide it in whenever I'm hauling stuff that I want to protect the floor from. The scrap was free and I'm told there's plenty more, so whenever this one gets too ratty, I'll just get another. This leaves my E looking good most of the time, and protects it when I need to haul stuff to the dump, or from the home supply or whatever.

Thanks. I am hoping to find a nice 'heavy-duty' rubber mat similar to the one I had on my Isuzu Tooper. The Honda dealership recommended that I go over to a truck accessory supplier and have something cut to fit.

I may do that and see what I can come up with.

Again, not what you're looking for, but....

I bought a set of those 2'x2' interlocking floor pads you see at Home Depot & similar; they're made of something like a very dense foam rubber. I got mine at Costco for about $10. One set is 4'x6' assembled, and I cut them to fit. My floor is completely covered when I fold up or remove the seats, and the whole thing dismantles to a small stack of 2'x2' pads.

It works great, and when these wear out, I can use them to cut another set.

Now that's a great idea, and I just happen to have a set of those unopened.

Have fun! Cutting them to fit the curves of the wall was a challenge and time consuming. Once you get one side right, just flip it over as a template for the other side. You'll want to make sure you have them centered on the floor for this to work, of course.

First set looks better on one side than the other due to trial & error. The next set will benefit from this, but they do seem to hold up since I only install them when the seats are up or out for hauling 'stuff'.

Just received a custom-fit Lloyd's RubberTite mat from the Roadworksauto.com and it works great. A nice heavy-duty rubber mat with identations to corral liquid (upside down pattern from the element floor pattern). I ordered the mat thinking it would be just for the rear cargo area but it turned out to be one piece that stretched from the rear cargo door to all the way under the front seats. I have carpeted mats in the rear so I cut the one piece making two so the rear mat butts up against the carpeted mat under the seat which make a nice finished installation. You can view and order the mats at the following link:

I don't think you'll be disappointed, a bit expensive but a quality product.

which exact style did you get that you liked so much (they have 13 from which to choose)? also, which color did you get? it looks like the gray would go well, but maybe the black would be more interesting?

I purchased the black "Trunk/Cargo area" $49.99 option (w/free shipping). I wasn't sure how well the grey would match with the original mat color so I went with a contrasting color. It took 17 days from time of order to delivery. I'm guessing it took that long because they may have had to make a new template considering the Element is so new. I ordered the same product for our CR-V and it only took about a week. The fit is very good and the black mat looks very nice with the Shoreline Mist exterior/interior color scheme IMHO.

Is the Lloyd's mat non-skid? Does it stop stuff from rolling around in the back area? What about the sides - do they roll up over the sides of the vehicle, or do they just meet the sides (so dirt, etc. can get down there)?

My E is being delivered any minute (4WD EX auto, Shoreline Mist).

Thanks!

Did they give you a part # that the rest of us can reference? It looks like this is a better deal than the Honda mats without checking the prices directly.

From the website listed above, it looks like you just choose the trunk/cargo area, then put in the year/make/model info & choose your color. It's now $59.99 (including shipping), but the Honda cargo mat is around $70 and only covers the back area.

The mat is constructed of a soft rubber that substantially reduces the chances of sliding cargo. There are no side walls on the mat. However, the identations should capture most dirt before it has the opportunity to slide between the wall and mat. I will attempt to post some photos of what it looks like in the Element in the near future. Listed below is the invoice as received from roadworks.com after placing the order:

We bought a 5' by 3' door enty mat from Home Depot for $15. I liked it because it is lighter than one would expect of such a piece and is easy to fold in half and so folded, it fits almost perfectly in the rear cargo area. Best of all, we can open it up and it protects the cargo door if we are loading stuff that would sctatch the plastic. It can be hosed clean or vacuumed. The gray color coordinates with the colors in our gray/blue interior.

I located a great grey colored, industrial mat at Linens and Things that is almost EXACTLY the size of the rear cargo area for $9.99. Apparently it is something they always have in stock. Looks great and works great! Check it out!

I took the earlier advice in this column and ordered a grey cargo mat from www.roadworksauto.com. The mat arrived yesterday. I put it in and it looks like it's going to be the perfect mat for hauling and sliding my heavy band equipment around without tearing up the original plastic flooring.

I also purchased some of the Honda All-Season floor mats. I installed the front one with the brackets. The back mat is just a loose fit, so I put it OVER the new Lloyd's mat. Also installed the All-season seat covers in the front.

Now the vehicle is pretty much scratch-proof.

By the way, I had originally purchased the All-Season mats and seat-covers directly from my dealer. After reading these message boards, I found that I could purchase these same items on the net cheaper. So, I cancelled my dealer order and purchased the genuine Honda accessories from Ray Laks Honda in New York (www.hondacuraworld.com). By doing so, I saved my self enough money to also purchase the mudguards. Ray Laks was very friendly to deal with, and provided prompt shipping service with 'free' shipping. I recommend them to anyone looking to purchase Honda accessories.

Best regards,
CW

Hi. It matches the blue and grey tones of the Element pretty darned well. I was surprised. It's a light grey colour. I'm sure it looks much better than the black would have. To look at it, you'd never know it wasn't part of the vehicle in the first place. It is 'hand' cut, and the edges match the contours of the interior very well, and extend all the way up just under the rear of the front seats.

Hope this helps.

mesadude,
thanks for the information it is very helpful. i was just about to order it in black, but i am going to take your word for it and order in grey! does it even have cutouts for the rear seats, or did you have to cut them out yourself (where the inner leg of the rear seats clamps on to the floor)?
thanks,
matthew

Yes, all of the cutouts are there. You won't have to trim anything.
