I shut my rear door (glass) and got a dent in my door. Did not shut hard. Anyone else have this problem.

I've heard the rear door will dent if push down in the center (usually under the chrome "H"). When closing the rear hatch, do it on the raised area by the handle. The structure there is much stronger.

Thanks for the other comments. I have a black, EX built in April.

The dent is on the left side. The metal seems to be very week. Maybe a design fkaw. I assume this will be fixed for free? I will find out this week. I just shut the door normally on the left side.

I have one to.....showed the dealer and suggested the door was being shut in a way that pressure from a finger did it...NOT! Mine is right on the seam line above the door handle..hard to see in less the sun is shining on it...I am hoping that their dent wizard can help me.........EE

In the future, you might want to close the hatch using your palm on the H logo. Seems to work well without putting too much pressue on one little area.

There's actually an indentation in the hatch on the right side that is made for closing the hatch. It's about 2"x5" and on the "bottom" of the hatch (in the closed position). You can only see it when the hatch is open.

I ended up denting mine within the first couple days and took it in last week and it had 5 small dents. They had there detail guy fix the dents for free and even took the latch off and made sure it would shut easily.

I am lost. I always thought that the indentation you are refering to (not the raised lip on the metal hatch itself) was to help lower the hatch into place. Once my hatch is lowered I then have to give it a firm push to make it latch shut. That is when the dents are taking place I believe.

Are you able to put your hand in the "indentation" and flip the lid shut and pull your hand out in time? My hatch won't shut using this technique. And I know it won't shut if my hand gets stuck in the indentation!!

Yes. I swing the hatch down and pull out my hand when the hatch is down to about 45 degrees - it closes ok.

It's almost a throwing motion, except it starts from the high point.

Maybe they made a correction in assembly or parts to enable the hatch to shut easier. I just got mine last week.

You should be using the handle on the bottom of the hatch to fling it shut.

This seems to be a design flaw with Honda. These doors should not dent. Is Honda paying for this? I am still waiting to see. Can we get a recall? I did not shut the door very hard and it dented. I just bought the car in May. What other issues I am going to have? Since more than one person is having this problem it sounds like its more than an isolated case. Maybe the door needs reinforcement. The metal seems very flexible.

What does everyone else think?

No problems here, and I slam the hell out of it everytime. If you don't think its closed, DO NOT push it again! Just open it back up and try again.

I too use the "fling it closed" approach sometimes, but right on the outside of that, the metal seems to be more reinforced in that area.

After months of ownership I never knew that this would work and you are correct. No more dent worries. Just fling it shut!!!! Thanks for telling us.

to keep from denting you auto's in general e's and eveything else don't use your hand, only your finger tips and push it as close to the edge as possible, that is where the outer "skin" is wrapped around the inner shell it is solid on the edges, the middle or center of you doors will flex and dent. i just grab my trunk by the glass, i would rather have finger prints, than a dent. i don't get paid working for working on my own stuff.
