Good looking dog - looks rambunctious. I rescued my dog in Sept and I love to hear other doing the same - his name is Jackson....yep - as in Action Jackson. Half Miniature Pinscher half Dachsund. He loves riding in the E.

I agree Mizsydney. My partner and I own a Printing and Graphics business and are going to be the first ever sponsors of the annual People Pet walkathon in my home town of Sarnia ON. It is held by the Sarnia District Humane Society. http://www.sarniahumanesociety.com/

We are total animal lovers with 2 kids of our own (Ellie-May a jack russell and Jed a Austrailian Shepherd mix). We were trying to think of a community event to get involved in and as we were sitting out on a patio at a local resturant having breakfast one Sunday morning. The Walkathon was happening and we looked at each other and laughed. That was it!

We cannot wait to help them with this event this year. We are providing water stations, giveaways to participants of water bowls, etc. The manager of the Sarnia-Lambton Humane Society was so excited when I called her as they have never had any help or a corporate sponsor of any kind before.

Very excited!!!!

Does it cost anything to adopt a dog?

Zippy cost me $75 but she was spayed and has had her initial vaccinations. Day 1 and she has already learned her name and knows how to sit(with a small treat). She came with no training!

:) I payed 20. last year for a dog that adopted me . She had been returned to the pound by a family that had a small child. She already had all her shots and was spayed. The best 20. I ever spent in my life.... Save a life ... get a great friend at the same time.....

Adoption fees, like purebred puppy fees, are the least of it.

Gidget's first year: $2k in vet bills.

A friend of mine adopted a rescue pup and that was a couple hundred dollars.

I think it's about $60 here. that includes shots & neutering as required by the State (thank goodness!). I think they have special events (adoptathons?) where some fees are waived.

I hate seeing "free to good home" signs - pets are living beings and shouldn't be handed out to anyone who asks. at least screen the owners and sell the pups for a small amount that will add up to enough to FIX YOUR @#$!#ING DOG!

Usually yes. It varies but around here (Chicago) its about $100 to $200 depending on the shelter.

$200 and a 3 hr trip. Found mine on pet-finders. Worth the money and the gas.

We got a real good family dog from the pound - today is his birthday, turned 2!
The pound guessed he would be 35 lbs (first picture) - he now weighs 82 lbs. (second picture)
BIG dogs ROCK! He really is a good dog - very well behaved.

Two dogs for the price of one! What a doll, congrats! :)

That pup looks so Great Dane-ish that I can totally believe he ended up huge. Very handsome dog.

Two of my dogs were free, including my soulmate dog.

Is Zippy named after Dave Barry's small auxiliary dog? That was what I named my first car, and for the same reason.

Someone asked how much it cost to adopt a dog?

Depends on the shelter or breed rescue - generally about $100 or so. Consider vet visits, training, grooming, food, toys, etc. Can easily top $1,000 a year. However, you can't put a price on love.
