: Aux. Jack no longer works for Ipod...

Hi All-
I'll try to make this short, but I would appreciate any comments!

I had my aftermarket stereo installed by a neighborhood audio tech.
It sounds great. I have Focal Access coaxes in the front doors, MMats coaxes in the back doors, and a 2 x 10" MMats sub enclosure.
However, after the Pioneer head unit was put in, the 1/8" Aux. jack in the passenger dash was disabled. I was using the Belkin Ipod kit but had to switch to the "Roadtrip", which sends a wireless reception to the head unit. It sounds like s**t.
This guy didn't tell me until after the fact, and he wanted to charge me $145.00 for an "adapter" to make the aux. jack work again.
?????

Thanks for any help on this.

sounds like either your installed is trying to rip you off.
Look at your owners manual for the new head unit and see what type of connections it has on the rear.

If it has a aux type connection on the rear, find the adapter for yourself from someone like crutchfeild and install it yourself.

I can not see the adapter costing more than $10-15.

It all depends on what kind of adaptor you need as to whether $145 is fair or not. You don't say what model of Pioneer you bought. Does it have an auxilary input? If it does, then some basic cables could be used to wire in your aux jack. Maybe $30-50 for parts and labor would be a reasonable charge.

If your new deck doesn't have auxilary input but does have a CD changer jack, the adaptor you need is much more expensive and $145 installed would be just about right. As a side benefit, you'd most likely get basic controls over your iPod on the Pioneer deck that you wouldn't have with the basic cabling.

You said what I was going to say. Some Head Units aren't set up to work with an AUX jack. I had a low end Pioneer and had to replace it for a model about double in price that had a seperate AUX output. Just make sure that the head unit your getting will do everything you want.

I'll be doing that in a year or so. Have to save up and do my research on parts and pieces. The stock radio is ok, but they aren't made to last, or turn too far up. :D

In order to make the aux jack work, you're going to have to purchase a CD RB-20. That will allow the aux jack and another device (cd changer/sat radio) to work with the head unit. However, to make the rb-20 plug into the Element's aux jack, you may have to pull out the honda part, and put in your own stereo adapter with rca plugs on the other end.

This will only work if your head unit has an IP-Bus.....

Thanks for the input.. I love this site...

My Pioneer unit is the DEH-P7400MP- a little dated, but it does have an IP- BUS input. The schematic says it is for a multi- disk player.

So, I guess I will have to find the lead coming from the AUX. jack, and get an adapter to connect from there to the back of the Pioneer?

I am assuming I can get an IP- BUS cable at any Radio Shack, Etc.?

Can this be wired by just removing the receiver? I hope.

I agree with Americonium on the usage of the CDRB20 adapter and put that CD changer port to good use as an auxiliary input.

I'm doing something similar with my JVC HU this week so I can use the CD changer port as a line-in for my Sirius. In my case, I'm using JVC p/n KS-U58 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-06PaZmJjZdc/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=ks%2Du58&i=257KSU58).

What you'll need to do is get behind the dash mounted aux jack and wire it to the CDRB20, which will connect to your Pioneer HU. I wouldn't count on RS having much in the way of proprietary Pioneer cables and such, but you should at least be able to find the correct items for the custom aux jack work.

This is an ebay search, the best place I could think of price wise. I've purchased 2 in the past online, at ebay, so I think you'd have the best luck there. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input-- BTW I am a fellow Long Islander...

Before I make the sale-- and E-bay looks like the place, thanks-
The wiring is unclear. It looks like I have change the Aux. input to a 2- RCA jack? That would make it twin RCA out to 1/8" Ipod jack?
Or, will I wire the Aux jack to the RCA outs on the CD-RB20?
Also, where does the RB20 mount? My guess would be it's small enough to fit under the dash... I hope.

The CDRB20 will most likely just fit in the space behind the HU. You can use a cable from Radio Shack to go from the RCA jacks to a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo plug. Adapting the RS cable to the factory AUX jack may involve the soldering of a female stereo jack which is also available from RS. I'll look up the p/ns for you.

Here's the solder on connector (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2104044&cp=2032058.2032231.2032280&pg=2&numProdsPerPage=20&parentPage=family) for the back of the factory AUX plug wiring.

Here's an RCA to 1/8" male stereo plug cable. (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103859&cp=&kw=rca+to+stereo&parentPage=search)

If you need help send me a PM and we'll get together.

*edit* here's a crummy drawing I made with MS Paint.
