: First cd to be played
isketerol 02-12-2003, 10:33 PM I am curious to know what others have chosen as the first cd to be played in their EX. After listening to Emerson Lake and Palmer this evening in my S-10, I think I want to put it on as the first cd in my "E" when I finally get it. I think it should really show off the bass and the treble.

soundbwoy 02-12-2003, 10:40 PM Just got my Element tonight. First cd played was Sanchez's "Stays on My Mind", a GREAT album from last year...

ibutchman 02-12-2003, 11:10 PM I played a bootleg of "Don't be a Wrankster" by 50 CENT.

They Might Be Giants, 20 year anthology thingie..
janus285 02-13-2003, 02:47 AM Erasure's latest album called "Other's Peoples Songs..." Not their most amazing album, but some funky remakes of Solsbury Hill and a few others....
jimr140 02-13-2003, 08:05 AM I burned a multiple genre disc. A little rock, jazz, techno, and even some classical guitar. Towards the end of the test drive I pulled over (much to the confusion of our salesman) and tried them all. When the salesman asked what I was doing, I told him 'I'm testing one of the more important performance features'.

I'm burning myself a bunch of mix CDs, and will hopefully get close to 10 or 12 by the end of May (just in time for my cross-country drive). So far, I've been labeling them "Element Vol. I" and so on. Currently, I've only gotten as far as "Element Vol. III."
The only hard and fast rule that I have about these "Element series" CDs is that an artist can only appear once per CD. Amon Tobin is currently the only artist to appear on all three of them...
AndyCElement 02-17-2003, 04:17 PM The first CD played in my element was David Grey (my wife's choice). Whenever i'm driving though, its XM all the way...
AndyCElement
A single playing of Bowie's Sufragette City then all of Stevie Ray live from Carnegie Hall.
DrAlbertLee 02-19-2003, 10:45 PM Gadzooks! I feel so "out of it". I read the lists of the first songs you guys played on your Element's CD players and discovered I never even heard of most of the artists. I may be in my "second childhood" but I think I will keep listening to the GOOD music of the 40's and 50's. Ever hear of Al Jolson? Jimmy Durante? Mel Torme? Vic Damone? Doris Day? Judy Garland? New Christy Minstrels? Joan Baez? Peter, Paul & Mary? The Andrews Sisters? Ever listen to Big Band music, or to Smooth Jazz? I find my "Retro" music preference fits in well with the Element's "Retro" dashboard styling.
kevsong 02-20-2003, 11:50 AM Plugged my iPOD in and started with "Running with the Devil" by Van Halen, followed by "Autobahn" by Kraftwek. I think I freaked the dealer out because I kept driving circles around the parking lot with the windows down. I've been waiting for the Element since I first saw the concept car so I had to get my Ya Ya's out at full volume.
szacherau 02-20-2003, 01:21 PM Juliana Hatfield - Bed. Best female rocker ever.
Ilsjim 02-20-2003, 01:23 PM Buffett. Then some more Buffett.
My first CD played and still playing in my E…. Lucky Stiff (Full Length) www.luckystiff.net
I haven't purchased my Element yet (it'll be a Sunset Orange EX), but the first CD I play will be Jamiroquai - Travelling Without Moving. :D
rodaniel 02-24-2003, 07:39 AM Don't have my Satin Silver EX 4WD Element yet, but the first music that my wife and I always play in any new car - or even just with a new cd player in an old car is AC-DC's "Back in Black." We've had this album on every type of commercial media - even 8-track! This time I may have to kick it up a notch and blast the tunes from my MP3 player...
fosterbo 02-28-2003, 10:09 PM My lady and I are going to play La vie en rose when the car arrives.
isketerol 02-28-2003, 11:42 PM Nice. I really like her rendition of that song.

shawns 03-11-2003, 11:48 PM i'm chomping at the bit to plug my iPod in and fire up Face to Face "Don't Turn Away"... of course, i'll have to beat my wife to it because i know she's going to plug hers in first and play some liberal, acoustic girlie girls (ani difranco, patti griffin, sarah mclachlan, or some such).

Hawaiian E 03-12-2003, 02:16 PM Put in some Bob, then some Aerosmith. The stock system is pretty impressive to me, but then again i don't hang out in my car as often as other people so what do i know about sound?

The song by 50 cent is called "wanksta". Wanksta also doesnt mean dont pretend to be a bigshot. It means your a gangsta with no profit. You been a gangsta but never make any money. Just to let you know.

AC/DC's "Back In Black."

Actually, in this instance, it's slang for 'white gansta'. Namely, it's a deragatory term used for white teenage wannabe rapper boys from the suburbs who hang around downtown trying to get more 'street' and follow in Eminem's footsteps.
Because, ya know, that's cool and all.
Anyway, when I got up yesterday and went to get ready to go pick up my brother who is in town and then go get my Element, I had a lovely surprise sitting on the desk. My husband burned me three MP3 CDs and named them the Elemental Collection volumes 1-3. They have some full albums on them and some random songs I just happen to quite enjoy. Most of it's trance, electronica, industrial, technogoth, techno, etc. Some of the stuff on the CDs include Vangelis, Sarah McLachlan, Devo, Enigma, Deee-lite, White Zombie, Ministry, Pantera, Velvet Acid Christ, Russian folk music, the Dracula soundtrack, highlights from the soundtracks from the original Star Wars trilogy, the Chicago soundtrack, De/Vision, Sisters of Mercy and some other stuff.
Unfortunately, when we got to the dealership, none of my accessories had arrived yet. So they hadn't installed my MP3 player and I hadn't brought an external unit with me so I couldn't play any of my CDs. However, my brother happened to have Evanescence with him so we blasted that on the way back to my house, grumbling all the while that it's no fair that our band has the same sound and can't seem to get a good mainstream single out.
Then after picking up my husband, we went cruising around and listened to a couple of White Zombie albums, the Cult and some local radio stations.
I haven't yet decided what the first track on my MP3s will be played when I get the MP3 player installed on Wednesday.
Social Distortion, baby! That is how to break in a new car and new stereo. Nothing quite like Pleasure Seeker blaring to shake a few things loose
madhockey 04-16-2003, 10:30 PM I'm probably in the minority as far as musical tastes go, but I'll be cranking the Beastie Boys "Paul's Boutique" 8) which is my favorite album of all time. I've never had a CD player in my car, so I'm looking forward to the experience. Of course I'll have to buy an iPod to take full advantage of the AUX jack!

After I install some bass, it's Beasties time. Paul's Boutique! The "Revolver" of hip-hop.
Mind you, the first cd went in a very long 5 weeks after I purchased the car, as the mounting bracket took 3 weeks to get here and the cd player got sent back for repairs for a week.
Great thread!!
ckole 04-24-2003, 12:13 PM You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world... KISS!
That's probably what I will play. Tough decision though I have a large collection of great tunes.
Too many other CD's to list. The MP3 player will crank a variety of tunes blues, hard rock, gangsta rap, metal, alternative, country....
ckole 04-24-2003, 12:19 PM Here's another one.
Drivin' Fool by Blackfoot. Good rock tune off of the Siogo album.
micah 04-24-2003, 03:49 PM Bon Jovi "Crossroad" album
rushmore63 04-27-2003, 04:12 PM I recently had an aftermaket stereo (Kenwood) installed on my DX. The first album I played was "Melody A.M." by Royksopp. It's a sort of mellow Techno that great cruisin'.
JAZFUNK 04-30-2003, 10:09 AM Picked up my new Element Monday night, and am loving it.
First tune to hit: Marvin Gaye - Got to Give It Up
I like Slym's Jamiroquai choice. The JB's, Radiohead and Jamiroquai will be kickin' it in there for the rest of the week.
It's kinda fun because now I am wanting to dig out some of my old classic favorite albums and give them a NEW listen in this new ride. My favorite songs and albums are a part of me and take on my personality, so gotta get 'em all into the Element experience!
Groove On!
wodock 05-01-2003, 08:37 PM The 1st CD I played in my element was Bobby Bare Jr's "Young Criminals Starvation League" The best album that came out in 2002 that not to many people know about. It is on Bloodshot Records. The album is great but you should see him live. He ROCKS with a little bit of twang. Second CD is the Drive By Trucker's "Southern Rock Opera"
Have fun

Voila...instant tunes! The sweet sounds of Squarepusher, ETBG, Underworld, and Plaid (just to name a few) were filling our E in no time!

JPaul 05-16-2003, 12:07 PM The radio is very good, but some things seem to fit the E better than others:
First CD played:
Bob Mould "Workbook" (sounded good...but)
Music/CDs that sound great:
Reggae--esp. Bob Marley's "Babylon by Bus"
African music
Johnny Cash--"Live at Folsom Prison"
Bodeans--"Joe Dirt Car"
Keith Jarrett--"Live at the Deer's Head Inn"
Husker Du--"New Day Rising"
There are tons more...if anyone wants a more complete list, email me.
ShaneS 05-21-2003, 10:09 PM The first CD i played as i was pulling out of the lot at Sussex Honda was Three Doors Down, I love my SSM 4WD At element that i picked up last Sat. One thing about this vehicle, I will always remember it and hope that they stick around for when its time to get a new one.
StLouisPenguin 05-21-2003, 10:31 PM We too forgot our CDs at home (after all this is our first new car and first car with a CD player....so we rushed out to the dealer with out CDs in tow)
So....we got home...after driving around for a bit.....and I remembered to put the CDs in the car....I left extra early the next morning for work and ended up playing several CDs that first morning.....
Good Charlotte
Mighty Mighty Bosstones (truly old school CDs)
They Might Be Giants
Nelly
Lifehouse
Everclear
As far as I am concerned any CD sounds good in my baby E :)
orangelmnt 05-23-2003, 01:49 AM okenfold....killer bass
isketerol 05-23-2003, 07:00 AM Hey, as the originator of the thread I should report I did play ELP as I had said I would. It did sound awesome to my ears, and I did have a big-ass grin on my face. I had to work hard not to let my eyes roll back from the sheer pleasure of the experience.
To my ears, 70's bands like King Crimson, ELP, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and many others sound just fine on the "E"'s system. Enough bass to have a good kick to the drums, not enough to drown the sweet guitar riffs.
Some jazz is going to be tried this morning. :D Let's see how John McLaughlin fares.
Pflueger 05-24-2003, 10:41 AM First CD - driving off the lot.
Mezzanine by Massive Attack
** Then, to my surprise, West Wing chose the first song from the album to be the background music palyed while Zoe was kidnapped.
PeterCrowl 05-25-2003, 09:28 AM This thread is great. To be honest, without seeing it I wouldn't have thought to prepare. We went in yesterday and got way closer to our E, so programming the first tunes is a task at hand.
As excited as we are about it, there are still doubts - squeaks, leaks, cracked windshields, scratchable panels, tailgates you can't open from inside......first tune has to be
Talking Heads - Burning Down The House
Followed by:
Benny Goodman with Gene Krupa - Sing Sing Sing
(even though it was used in a Ford commercial)
Jimi Hendrix - Rainy Day Dream Away
Yes - Starship Trooper
(bass test)
And finally
Fat Boy Slim - Praise You
Peter
PeterCrowl 05-25-2003, 10:00 AM Hmmm - now I'm not sure.
Perhaps the best option isn't music at all...
What I should really do is run
Firesign Theater -
How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?
This covers both the dealer experience and the first drive.

The first cd that i played in the E is the new Deftones cd and it rocked pretty good for a original sound system.

CapnMack 05-28-2003, 09:38 PM Dear Ears:
I was suggesting in the Does This Thump forum that a CD be compiled of tunes that might be a benchmark comparison tool for different stereo setups that we might find at a Owner's Club regional meeting. This may finally settle the contention that the EX stock stereo is not as good as other alternatives. Thoughts?

Staggie 05-29-2003, 12:23 AM My E arrived at the dealer this afternoon. Took care of the paperwork today to get the 2.9% Memorial Day financing and will pick it up tomorrow after they install the foglights.
First song: In Your Eyes (extended version from Secret World Live).
I'm sure I'll be really focused at work tomorrow

mikeyj 06-16-2003, 01:02 PM I put in a Rod Stewart "best of" collection of his early stuff, and cued up "Every Picture Tells a Story". Then for my first trip I put it Pat Methany's "We Live Here", since although it's not a favorite, I thought it would make a great background road trip soundtrack. It did

Evangelist 11-26-2003, 11:44 AM First one, sort of a test drive, was a demo CD that came with my Bose home system. Collection of songs, some classical, others like "Olympic Fanfare". I especially like "The Magnificient Seven" perhaps with sub and bass turned up a bit. : )

DustE 11-26-2003, 07:39 PM While there have been a lot of great CDs listed in this thread I have yet to see anyone mention my choice. I wanted something with a good dynamic range to test out the sound system, no depressing themes or deep philosophical meanings to ruin my mood, and most important something I associate with good times cruisin' in my car.
My choice: The Cars Candy-O.
I know I'll probably catch heat on this but I think Ric Ocasek is a musical genus, at least in studio (I did see them perform once and it was by far the worst concert I have ever attended.)
Oh, and his wife aint too shabby neether!
First CD played was "When I Woke" by Rusted Root.
the bot 11-27-2003, 03:29 AM The Runaways first album.
It was three days before I finally remembered to gather up CD's for the E. So busy with work and school, I usually would be 10 minutes out of the door before the inevitable, "DOH!" And I always have my Creative Jukebox with me - of course, I just kept forgetting to bring the cords.
I see lots of great music in this thread, which reminds me, some Husker Du (Everything Falls Apart) is in order.
spacebox 12-01-2003, 06:43 PM Wow. We have great taste in music, well, with a few exceptions.
My first CD played was a homemade mix with 7 Seconds, DOA, Dead Kennedys, Circle Jerks, Icons of Filth, Black Flag and other stuff.
MarkZ 12-01-2003, 07:13 PM The first CD I played in my Element was Essential Journey. The first song was "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" Neal Schoen rocks!

hownowcb 12-01-2003, 08:58 PM  A CD has only been played once "accidentally" in mine. For those who may not remember, my Element was an "accessory" for my iPod. I'm forced to admit though, that a Bob Marley CD was played by my son when the E was about a month old. And I can't even remember the first tune that got cued up on my iPod on my first drive in the E. When there's over 3,100 to choose from, and you're my age, the memory is a cruel and arbitrary thing! But since I plan on keeping my E for ages, the first song is of no importance to me. Maybe the last song though....
Pimpn E 12-02-2003, 10:32 AM I test drove it to Slim Shady and DMX will likely be in it when I pick it up.
beachhearted 12-05-2003, 12:15 PM Brought my Element home Monday night and christened it with Stryper's "To Hell With the Devil" album. Robert Sweet's bass drum sounded great coming out of the subwoofer!
mallfouf 12-10-2003, 06:10 AM Played the soundtrack of "Amelie"
bartender79 12-15-2003, 10:50 PM the first cd i played was the new dave matthews "some devil" cd. it sounded so awesome driving it home for the first time w/ my favorite musician playing.
Nanook 04-28-2004, 04:16 AM I liked the comment about the E. being an accessory for your iPod.
Before I drove mine off the lot, I plugged in my iPod and Belkin 12V/line out adapter. It's about 6 hours from San Francisco to LA!
My first track was a reference recording to set everything: "No Egos Underwater" by the Aquarium Rescue Unit. Then I had to play what I was craving at the time: "Carl Weathers" from the album The Weather by Busdriver, Radioinactive and produced by Deadelus. Underground Hip Hop of the most mindblowing variety. I am not what you would call a Hip Hop fan, but I do like good, interesting, risk taking music of all varieties. And baby, this CD has it all. Haven't stopped listening to it for like two months.

Anyway, first CD was a live show, of course!
Garaj Mahal from sometime in '03...
If you haven't heard these guys, and you like jazz, check them out! They're doing things(like scratching) that you've probably never heard in jazz before!

Nanook 04-29-2004, 02:24 PM Who doesn't know the ARU? ;)
I first saw them at one of the O.G. HORDE shows back in '93 in Middletown, NY. Have since seen them several times on their trips out to LA. They are all very humble and nice; we would hang after their shows and "eat cookies" back in the day. ;) Jimmy Herring is so deserving of his current success. I wonder what Oteil Burbridge is up to? One of the best bass players I have ever heard. His brother Kofi likewise on flute. Hell, they were all at the top of the food chain on their instruments. Wasn't crazy about the new singer after the Col. re-retired, though.
Will definitely check out Garaj Mahal. Great name.
SeattleE 04-29-2004, 03:38 PM He's playing, among others, with Vida Blue. That's a side project of Jon Fishman of Phish...
And by the way...up here, nobody 'cept heads know anything about ARU! And certainly nobody knows first thing about Jimmy!

Stryper is STILL around? I thought declining record sales forced them into a godless life of male prostitution, drugs, more bad hair/makeup, finally having to sell off thier market cornering collection of black and yellow spandex just to pay rent on a hovel somewhere in Obscurityville?
I guess when the Lord taketh away he means business.

Element Art 04-29-2004, 10:52 PM My first CD was Billy McLaughlin...amazing finger style guitar. The Element's sound system is so clean and pure you'd swear he was playing his acoustic Guild right in front of you!
bwojc3 04-30-2004, 01:21 PM Element Art,
Greetings from an SOP EX owner in Brooklyn, NY!
If you haven't already, take a listen to Tommy Emmanuel. He's got to be one of the best, if not the absolute best, fingerstyle guitar players on the planet. He is simply unbelievable! His two most recent CD's, Only and Endless Road, are great-no exaggeration. He gets most of the play time in the car. :D
Bald Eagle 04-30-2004, 09:22 PM I don't recall which came first, either Also Sprach Zaranthustra by Richard Strauss or E. Power Biggs playing Toccata & Fugue in D by Johann Sebastian Bach...just to test the system. But whatever it was, it was quickly followed by Taj Mahal, An Evening of Acoustic Music.

thesussman 05-02-2004, 11:00 PM My first CD, which I played as I drove off the dealer's lot, was a mix of 80s tunes -- Bon Jovi, Huey Lewis, John Cougar, Billy Joel, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, Prince, etc.
While the 80s may not have been the best decade of music, that's when I was in high school and college, and that's my favorite music. I also listen to a lot of classic rock and country.
And I also listen to audiobooks.
markinmad 05-03-2004, 10:23 AM I can't remember the first iPod tune I played, but the first CD i stuck in the player was Ron White, Drunk in Public.

YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT , In fact i guarante you will enjoy it or i'll send you your money back , nothing to loose.
Blaine23 05-04-2004, 02:59 PM Well... actually my first stop was to Radio Shack where I bought a cord to connect my Nomad NX MP3 player to the E. Then a little later I stopped by Target and bought:
OutKast: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (my first ride with a subwoofer!)
Ryan Adams: Rock N' Roll
The Strokes: Room On Fire
I think all 3 of them are still in the E... and I bought it in December. With the MP3 player, I don't bother carrying CDs back and forth much anymore. I rip, load it, and just carry the Mp3 player now.
BEATBOX 05-04-2004, 03:00 PM I bought a cord to connect my Nomad NX MP3 player to the E.
Do you have it mounted to your dash or just sitting in a tray?

YodaMac 05-05-2004, 05:43 PM First CD played? Well since now that I FINALLY have a vehicle with a CD player in it...all my music is on my iPod! lol
I listened to "Spybreak" (cut 2 from the Matrix Soundtrack) on my iPod to get a good "vibe" going in Epod (my E).
As to the actual first (and last) CD I've played... It was the soundtrack to Charlies Angels: Full Throttle! lol. Listened to it twice while threading my leather steering wheel cover into place..lol. I'm not expecting to play many more in there now that my iPod is loaded and I've got a great Arkon iPod holder on the way. :)
Rockies 05-07-2004, 12:26 AM Still haven't played a CD, but I did finally hook up my iPod after 1 week of ownership. First song - "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Warren Zevon. Was listening as I drove out of town heading west into the foothills and the setting sun. Seemed appropriate.

klynch13 06-09-2004, 03:28 AM The first album I played in the box? Well I wanted to make sure the speakers worked so I had only 1 option. METALLICA-Master of Puppets! Started off with some Battery and then some Disposable Heroes. Great Album. I have a ipod now which is really great. Now I have all of my music genres when I am not listening to metal.
Oh yeah, want to try something fun with the subwoofer. Put a empty brown paper bag standing up in front of it. Like a lunch bag and watch it vibrate.
ke72jak 06-09-2004, 08:59 AM First CD I played was "Margerine Eclipse" by Stereolab. Had to give my E some instant groove to let her know what she is in for!

GypsyWagon 06-09-2004, 06:40 PM Don't know if I'll be stoned (you know...with rocks), pittied or just politely tolerated for this. But this first CD I played was SchoolHouse Rock - History & Grammar. Followed by the Elvis Mix CD my husband made me for Christmas - as part of my gift we got remarried in Vegas by Elvis (it's what he wanted to do originally...so I guess the real gift was the traditional wedding we had before)

You are to be hoisted upon shoulders and paraded around! Schoolhouse Rock, er, rocks! They are in constant rotation on my iPod. My favorites are "Lucky Seven Sampson," "Mother Necessity" and "Three Is a Magic Number."
All children of the 70's owe Bob Dorough and friends a debt of gratitude, IMO. I even have the cover CD, with Blind Melon and Ween being standouts.

"The Shot Heard Round The World" runs a close second...but I do love the ones you list as well. Edison 06-25-2004, 07:43 AM Well... I finally got around to this thread. I always planned to post to this one, but I wanted to "get it right". Besides, I had all those accessories to do, and with my mp3 player (Rio Cali) and the relatively rich choice of radio stations here, there was no rush. Even so, I didn't take this assignment lightly. After all, there is, no doubt, a huge psychological marker associated with what is posted here. I mean, what if someone admitted that their choice for 1st CD was..um...er... well, ok, say it was Mrs. Miller's Wild, Cool & Swingin'?. I would have to say I would probably form some opinion about that poster. ("Not that there's anything wrong with that!" - Seinfeld) In other threads, I've marveled at the wonderful diversity of E owners and this thread is no different in that regard. Choices cover the musical spectrum. It's a grand thing! :)
I did give some consideration to playing a compilation CD. I've made several, but decided that would not be the same. I typically mix a lot of different types on a CD ("Not that there's anything wrong with that!" - Seinfeld) and wanted this 1st CD thing to stand on its own. So, with that said, here is the 1st CD played in my E, from beginning to end: Lyle Lovett and His Large Band
"Given that true intellectual and emotional compatability
Are at the very least difficult
If not impossible to come by
We could always opt for the more temporal gratification
Of sheer physical attraction
That wouldn't make you a shallow person
Would it"

newkdf 08-04-2004, 03:48 PM Wow, Jackie du Pre, Grateful Dead, John Coltrane - what a great assortment of music. One of the things that attracted me to the E was the ability to plug in my i-Pod which is what we did. First song was "Traume sind Starker" by Schutzenjäger, an Austrian folk band. My wife is German and there's always an assortment of German music in the mix. By myself I usually listen to jazz or doo wop.

Cake's new album "Pressure Chief" came out for those of you who missed it. I didn't love it at first - but as with all Cake albums, it has grown on me and is now my current favorite.
eMass.
CD's that sound decent in my E:
Beck - Mellow Gold (quite a bit more bass than what you'd think)
The Mars Volta - Deloused in the Comatorium
Sparta - Porcelain
The Dust Bros. - Fight Club Soundtrack
Genius - Beneath the Surface
Cardigans - Gran Turismo
and pretty much any CD with decent production.
Cake is well known for good production on their albums (as are SOAD). I'm not really a fan of either two, but they sound great in my car...haha.
My biggest pet peeve is bringing out a cd that you really love and finding out that the production/mixing is all jacked up. I hate inconsistant bass notes, inconsistant cymbals, etc. Each smash of a cymbal should be as loud as the first unless its intentionally being played quitely - and the same goes with bass notes.
Of course, this really only matters if you have a decent system in your car. You most likely wont have too many problems with poor mixing quality (not enough to irritate you anyway) with the stock stereo in the E.
Dasbear 11-08-2004, 02:35 PM  I always have the Vault to go make my next Pick. Besides I like all types of music.

The other day was one of the few times I was driving the E alone. I fiddled with the tonal controls, got it all set up..and promptly put in Korn's Take A Look In The Mirror. I believe there's a few more rattles in the dash now...But the windshield's still on one piece.
lars161 11-18-2004, 12:44 AM Take a lood in the mirror does sound good in the E.
Can't wait to put my JL subs in.

Queens of the Stone Age- Go with the Flow
Franz Ferdinand- This Fire
and then finish it off with some Nick Drake- Pink Moon
yeah... that's the good stuff.
urbanhym 06-03-2005, 01:17 AM Some decent music on the thread. It got me thinking and, though I'd rather play music to suit my mood rather than play something just for the sake of it being the first time, I caved in and went with Descendents Liveage because it's the only version of Van that I currently have on cd. The song is crude(I hated this band when I first heard 'em for that reason but they later became one of my faves) and the Element's not strictly a van but lines like "Fall asleep and wake up in another place" kind of fits my idea of the Element being a "base camp."
Arch E Type 06-03-2005, 02:06 AM 04/01/05 Al Green - Let's stay together.
Recently, UB40's first album. Talking Head's '77, Red Elvis's Poet's and Lunatics, Beck's new Guero
rodaniel 06-03-2005, 07:23 AM My wife & I have a long-standing arrangement... The first CD played in any new vehicle that either of us buy is AC-DC's "Back in Black." She started this trend with an 8-track version, so that'll give ya some idea of how far back this goes...

IDIUM 06-09-2005, 05:09 PM It was a while back, but I think it was either Supernatural (Santana) or Cachaito (Orlando Cachaito Lopez).

Dave_C 06-10-2005, 11:03 AM When I test drove a couple of E's last week, I brought a couple of CDs with me to check out how the sound was, and played a good portion of Dave Matthews Band Live in Central Park (which I believe to be the best DMB album)...sounds good.
Dave
PhyrePhoxe 06-10-2005, 12:56 PM Ben Harper...fight for your mind .... is the title.
I think he is great. If you like DMB you should check him out...
That's just my .02$
boywonder52086 06-10-2005, 09:08 PM AdMiller, POSTAL SERVICE!!! That was the 2nd CD i played in my E. Definitely an everyday, windows down, sunglasses on type of CD. The backround music for my life, my friend.
DaveC, ok so yea, any LIVE Dave album is absolutely amazing, and to me, they are all better than any recorded one. I just meant compared to the rest of the recorded ones, "Stand Up" is AMAZING. If you havent gotten it yet, get it.
PhyrePhoxe, Ben Harper is GREAT. Definitely top of my list.
Wow, nice to see that others on this board have the same music interest as i do.

I agree with you on the DMB live vs. recorded albums. I will definitely pick up the new one. I actually used to drive down to Richmond from Pittsburgh to visit friends in '93/'94 and caught a lot of the DMB shows while they were solely with Bama Rags records (before he went to RCA and went "mainstream")...saw quite a few shows with only about 100 to 150 people in a club, truly a great thing to see. You obviously can't see him in that small a crowd anymore. I was at the two seperate shows that they recorded on "Remember Two Things"...one of the best DMB shows I've ever seen. Good stuff indeed.
Dave.
boywonder52086 06-11-2005, 04:14 AM i saw them a couple of months ago at Jazz Fest here in New Orleans. AMAZING. even though i was with a thousand other people. That performance, however, was largely shadowed by my front row spot at the JAMES TAYLOR performance the week before at Jazz Fest. yes, i nearly peed my pants.
Boredslacker 06-12-2005, 10:18 PM Screamin' Jay Hawkins "I Put A Spell On You"

Wow, what a switch! I love Infinitis, but on a different level than the E. Sounds like you have a nice E on its way, love the new CK colour. Enjoy, along with your music...(I am sure that salesguy had nightmares that night!).
Schmott 06-28-2005, 08:53 AM I will finally replace my 93 Ford Ranger (120,000 miles....yeesh) next month with an E!!! Go me!

Bereezy 07-01-2005, 10:20 PM :grinThe first CD played in my E was Dave Matthews Band "Stand UP". The last new car I bought I played Dave's v "Everyday" album. I basically switch it up between all Dave CD's with some Ben Harper, Lenny, and Beastie Boys mixed in.
The5thELEMENT 07-13-2005, 03:41 AM I Finally decided what is to be the first song played in my new element. I knew it had to be a classic, timeless song. After some days of thinking it finally came to me.....The Rolling Stones Fade to Black  I am currently making a mix mp3 CD for the Nighthawk, but fade to black will definately be the first song heard driving off the lot!
joshDestruction 07-31-2005, 07:09 PM atmosphere- god loves ugly
OK, I'll bite but I'm guessing few if any of you would know the artists:
I played Charmaine's debut CD (www.charmaineworship.com). I got to do sound at one of her shows and boy can she sing! Cool stuff.
I then played Nichole Nordeman's "Wide Eyed" cd.
What's interesting is what I Haven't played. I have not played the CD done by the band I play in (www.cleanslatemusic.com)! I did 1/2 the engineering for that CD so I know it really really well. I played bass on all the songs and wrote 1/2 of them. I even sing on one of the songs. All that and I haven't played it through the Element
LOL!!!

ElementalFox 08-07-2005, 05:36 PM BOOM (Here comes the Boys from the South) by P.O.D. because, I'm a boy from the South who likes to go BOOM!
POD produces boom boom ....in a diaper :-D And for the record Cruel by Tori Amos is the first song going to be played. it should show off the sound.
Miss Ellie & Co. 08-22-2005, 02:57 PM I couldn't wait to slide this one into my new EX:
Groove Armada: "Love Box"
Twin headed, in-studio "magicians" Andy Cato and Tom Findlay blow the roof off house music with this muscial miracle. The thick, droning bass lines on "Easy" and "Love Box" tracks were the real test for my Elements stock audio system. It performed wonderfully! In sequence were the following Cds that I played.
Lucinda Williams: "World Without Tears ( queen of haunting honky tonk blues )
Underworld: "dubnobasswithmyheadman" ( 90s best, the drugs! the drugs! )
Ozric Tentacles: "Abourecense" ( best musical trip to the stratosphere )
Miles Davis: "Kind of Blue" ( the quintessential jazz masterpiece )
Dandy Warhols: "Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia" ( Oregon's best band )
Weezer: 2001 Weezer ( is Rivers Cuomo still celibate?)
Neil Young: "Harvest Moon" ( could calm the soul of a werewolf )
Smithereens: "Especially for You" ( 80s slap happy Diken drums, great guitars)
PJ Harvey: "Uh Huh Her" ( Paula Jean soooo good for me )
Everything but the Girl: "Amplified Heart" ( Tracy and Ben.. out of heaven)
Kings of Leon: "Aha Shake Heartbeat" (the Kings have arrived)
Calexico: "Hot Rail" ( hot burning southwestern tequila music from Tuson,Az.)
E-Ticket 08-22-2005, 04:10 PM After owning my "E" for about 2 months, I finally did find a CD to pop in (admittedly I'm not much of an audiophile and I was using the XM radio exclusively).....
Meat Loaf - "Bat Out of Hell"
My 5-year old wanted to know who's that guy singing? And when I told her Meat Loaf she of course would not believe me and told me to stop teasing her!
EnolaGaia 08-22-2005, 10:22 PM Once I forced myself to turn off the XM and make sure everything else worked...
_Time Out_ : Dave Brubeck Quartet....
