: Advice on Install (Harman Kardon Drive+Play)

hi Guys,

I haven't posted on this forum in ages. But I'm planning on installing a Harman Kardon Drive+Play in my Element. (2006 Manual)

I just need a few tips on the install. I've never really done an install like this before, but I think I'm knowledgeable enough to do it, hopefully with everyone help. I already have a good idea where I want to mount the brain (underneath the passanger side glove box). I know I have to route the wire to the fuse box (which I have never done before), and possibly connect to the ACC Ignition Terminal (which I have no clue).

Other then that, my 2 questions are.

1) Is there a lot of complexity when it comes to connecting to the fuse box? I know there's a 12 volt harness with a 2amp fuse. Is it just as simple as plugging into an empty slot on the fuse box?

2) Has anyone removed the shifter? Specifically the plate around it? How much room is there to the right of the shifter underneath? (Opposite side of the hazard button) I'd like to put the control nob there, and snake the cable underneath leading to the brain.

I'm planning on buying the Service Manual before doing this, but if I could get some extra help I'd really appreciate it.

Hope I don't sound stupid with all this. I've been searching the boards for the past 2 days for some inspiration to do this. :)

Here's a link to the quick install guide for the device.

Thanks in advance,
Alvin

ALpianoman - welcome back.

Do a search on 'add-a-fuse'. If you look for the sticky about creating an extra power outlet, there are excellent pictures of one.

Thanks! I did, and found some great posts! I even contacted a few members. And I think I'm ready for the install. I should be getting all the stuff within a month or so. I'll definitely post pics of the install.

Thanks again!
Alvin

By any chance, have you installed this yet? I'm considering buying one and want to see an install in an Element first.

I'm interested in your progress as well. I just bought the Drive+Play after having the Honda MusicLink installed. Whoever thought that was a good UI should be made to use it for a week of driving in normal traffic.

I'm planning on a similar installation with the control placed to the upper right of the stick but the display 'on top' of the center dash. I have them temporarily placed there right now to check out the visibililty and control feel. It's been there for a week and so far I like it.

My problem is I don't have the time to take everything apart and wire it up right now. So I've been thinking about paying a 'pro' to do the install. I'll have to see.

I have also been wondering since the Drive+play has a aux through jack of plugging in the D+P into the aux jack and have the 'dash' aux jack go into the D+P's pass through jack. Then I can still plug in something to the AUX jack on the dash.
