: subwoofer question
allah75 01-18-2006, 11:58 AM I am thinking about putting a sub woofer in the the e- and its between
Kenwood KSC-SW1 Powered enclosed subwoofer and the
Kenwood KSC-WD250 10" powered subwoofer
I want something decent with my practical use in mind of having
two dogs and the up and down on the back seats still having a good bass provider and the Box E space still available

The KSC-SW1 won't take up nearly as much space as the other. It's flat enuff that you could mount it under one of the rear seats (maybe even front seats) or you could have it held to the back of the driverside rear seat by use of the bungees. This will also allow you to retain the fold down and up action of the seat. But you won't get as much bass as you would with the KSC-WD250.

The KSC-WD250 looks and sounds great. Very sturdy but does come carpetted which dog hair may be an issue. Plus with it's size, you can fold down one seat but you'd have to disconnect it to fold down both. It only takes several seconds to disconnect it but it may be a hassle depending on what you're normal use is for the cargo area. Since it is larger it will take up maybe 20% of the cargo floor.
Here it is mounted in mine.

outpost4 01-18-2006, 02:06 PM Go with the big box. You can't remake the laws of physics. It is the box that puts out the deep bass, not the driver. I haven't heard the Kenwood small guy but I did hear an early version of the equivalent Clarion model and it was a total piece of horse pitute.

Thanks Empire- I got pit bulls- they dont shed hair that much, shouldnt have that big of an hair issue that regular car care cant handle..
What speakers do you have in the front and rear doors?

Only stockers for the moment.
allah75 01-19-2006, 07:47 AM Did just adding the sub make a heck of a difference alone?
Empire 01-19-2006, 11:11 AM It definitely adds a lot. It's not going to turn heads at a stoplight or setoff your neighbors' car alarms but it will fill the Element's interior very well.

I would say adding a good sized sub makes a big difference. I disconnected the factory sub and ran some speaker wire from the factory sub wiring back to my Bazooka triangle sub and it sounds 10x better than the factory sub. Of course, the factory sub amp doesn't put out a lot of power, but with a properly ported subbox, it sounds much better than stock.
I plan on upgrading the radio and adding amps later, but for now, my setup sounds pretty good. (Also replaced the 4 fronts with Pioneer TS-G1640R's btw)

canuckselement 01-21-2006, 05:37 PM can't seem to make my images small enough for this forum!?
I have two 10 inch subs built into the sapre tire area. Works great and still able to load stuff!!

Moderator's Edit: Here's Perry's two pictures. As he said in the attached note to me, you can see he can still fill up his Element with stuff!
bacchus1310 01-21-2006, 07:09 PM I thought about doing that, but where do you put your spare?
canuckselement 01-21-2006, 09:50 PM My spare tire is a can of Tire inflater Stuff. I've never had a flat tire:)
Hope the forum guru is able to post my pics

outpost4 01-22-2006, 12:04 AM Not only can I, but I did. :)
The other thing I'd recommend for a spare tire is a membership to AAA. That solves the spare tire issue, especially their Plus plan, which would tow you to a nearby garage of your choice if you needed it. Not bad insurance for only $79 a year. And if you have a dead battery they jump you for free.
Nice install, Perry. I love the carpeting with the graphics in the rear. It threw me for a second. Is that wiring? Thank you also for taking the pictures. All install threads are better with pictures.
bacchus1310 01-22-2006, 06:30 AM The AAA thing is great, but moving where i'm going to be living, I would rather have the spare. Alaska isn't known for being a good place to get a tow truck. SO I guess I'll keep my spare and put a small box in the back. I've got a small box that will hold my two 8's. Its not the best, but until I come up with something else, thats what i'm going to have to do. That would be my one dislike about my E. No place to install a good stereo without too many changes.
canuckselement 01-22-2006, 07:47 AM ALASKA EH! Why not get the MOAB basket with full size spare attached to it. I would not want to run that dinki little thing honda give you as a spare. I have two children and haul tons of gear most every weekend. The basket has been a life saver:) My next investment with be the litttle Tentrax unit.
If you don't have any rug sharks you could go with the box setup.
Take care,
Perry
bacchus1310 01-22-2006, 11:47 AM Perry,
I had thought about that. But Anchorage is a pretty good sized city, so I shouldn't have many problems there. I know the drive up can be pretty rough in places, but i've done it before. Maybe when I get up there, i'll have them install a good set up. I'll keep the spare for now.
