I am thinking about getting the Kenwood Excelon DDX7015 tv/dvd unit .. and besides having a car alarm installed, is there any other security measures that can be taken to deter thieve . as many HU's have removable faces etc.. this unit is a 24/7 inview unit... I want to get my front windows retinted maybe to reduce inside view

But i'm just concerned how easy it would be to snatch a unit like that out or would it be an invite for trouble.. or should i just stick to a regular detachable unit.

No matter what you put in there, if someone wants it bad enuff they'll take it regardless of what you do to deter them. Hell, even sitting in the damn vehicle yourself won't stop some thieves. The unit does come with a lockout code but that's only truly effective once the unit is disconnected from the battery. The best hope you have is that an unknowing thief, at first glance, will assume it's a stock navigation display as what's available in most of the other Honda models. One of the most simple things you could do tho would be to just throw a shirt or jacket over the center dash on your way out. You could however fabricate a covering cap that conceals it. The stock DX model had a blank plastic cover that filled the empty radio din.

A good alarm with the right accessories will assist. Directed Electronics makes motion sensors, glass break sensors, tilt sensors and voice modules that will assist with deterrence. These modules will plug into any alarm that has the capability of aux outputs. (Best used with a DEI system of course)Bottom line is that if a thief really wants it they will take it. But you can give them a hard time which in most cases a thief will think twice about the hassle involved.

i have an exterior motion sensor, interior motion sensor, and a great alarm but i still worry at times. the best thing to do is not to draw any attention when you're almost at your destination. what i do is when i'm about 10 blocks what from where i'm heading to, i turn off my electronics and within that 10 block ride, its a good chance that you will spot anybody following you. maybe i do that because i got problems psychologically or paranoid but you know what... no matter what alarm you have, they will get around it. trust me, if "THEY" really want it, THEY'RE GONNA GET IT!!!!

I agree, if someone wants to get into yout E, they will.
I also have a DVD system in my E. Hooked into the stereo and mounted to the roof. With my front tinted windows, you can hardly notice the unit (it's black).

The front dash mounted units are more visable through the windows.

I also live in a small town in Ontario. Not a lot of DVD theft going on to my knowledge.

Get an alarm, tint the fronts. I wouldnt do any more than that. If they want it, they will take it.

Just last week, my bro's expedition was stollen from way deep inside his driveway. He had motion sensors, the beeper device with auto start, bright led lighting, I mean a bunch of high end security junk on it. All this was protecting his 14k worth of electronics he had in it. He also had a loud gibson exhaust. The thieves took the truck without a sound while he was sleeping. If they want it bad enough, they will have it.

I have a pioneer D1, looks close to stock. I have an alarm that I got just for the keyless entry and the front windows are tinted. Im not losing sleep over it, its insured.

Those South African "Blasters" have got to be the most intense theft deterrent available. As an added feature, the flames would probably melt the panels on our Elements and bond the would-be thief to the street in a pool of liquid plastic. The police would arrive and chisel him off the road to make the arrest.

I don't have a link, but does anyone recall the store about the electrified drivers seat as a theft deterrant? lol

I want somebody to make the Backstreet Boys alarm. If somebody tried to break into your car, your system would automatically start playing boy bands at 140 dB SPL. That would drive any would be thief away! :D

Awesome looking "E". Where in the city are you from? I live in Peekskill, but work in the city (Rockefeller Center). I'd like to meet and take a close look at your "E". I like what you did with it. I'm still up in the air as to what I want to do on the inside. You can email me direct if you want,. Lots of luck with it.......:

allah75 and everyone,

I tried to look for security screw that can replace HU screws, NO LUCK!!! I can’t believe auto makers and aftermarket are not making that. Maybe I should patent that idea. Anyhow, I found license plate security screw that is a bit bigger then the radio screw. (@Pepboys) 1/3 of the license plate security screw fits into the radio hole; I added the provided plastic nut acting as the nut washer in between the radio hole and the radio mounting bracket just to fill up the gaps that won’t screw in any further. But this also pushed my HU out about half an inch or not even that much; not bad but at least it’s added a better security then just the regular screw. I think this makes it harder for the thief to remove the HU.
