Hello girls and boys! This is it!

We are finally "good to go" on the EOC/ROC West Coast Camping Trip at Lake Tahoe. It's now time to get your resevations called in to the campground.

We'll be camping at The Tahoe Valley Campground (530-541-2222) for the week-end of August 18,19, 20 Friday, Saturday and Sunday departing on Monday.

Group Camp: Although they have one I was advised that it has very spartan amenities so we've chucked that option completely and will be going with individual tent sites instead.

Individual Tent Sites: This is the way to go and it suits our needs all the way around. As I mentioned earlier the campground will do everything possible to see that EOC/ROC members have adjoining tent sites. However the quicker we reserve our sites the better. The sites here will accomadate 2 vehicles per site and as many a 6 people. So if members want to bring along more friends and family, or double up with other EOC/ROC members that could happen.

Indivdual Site Fee: $27.50 per night. You will pay in advance for the first night only. Paying the remaining balance upon arrival. This is good because it will allow folks to want to stay longer or shorter than three days to decide that when they get there. NOTE: Rate may increase to $30 per night by Febuary 1st.

When you contact the campground let them know who you are "EOC/ROC"
and the dates (week end ) you want to reserve. "Jan or Joel" are the contact people at the campground and are prepared to make our reservations as early as today.

Even though the campground is open year round there isn't always someone there to talk to. So call back and keep trying until you connect with some one.

Calling the campground: 530-541-2222 "You want to talk to someone at the campground when you call." Do not go directly to the reservation prompt as it will direct you to an "outside ticket reservation system. You want to talk directly with someone at the campground.. either Jan or Joel for EOC/ROC reservations.

That's it for now. Lets get this thing happening!

Let me know if you have any questions.

I called the campground this morning - Joel will be out for over a week and Jan won't be in until Thursday morning. The woman answering the phone confirmed that indeed we need to talk to either Jan or Joel. I'll be calling back Thursday morning to make my reservation.

Up Date:

Well I just returned from the Ridgeline forum where I began rattleing cages as so far only a few ROC members have verbally committed for the trip. I got some immediate reactions from them and all is good but so far the campgound host tells me only three EOC members (besides myself) have made reservations. What's up with that guys?

As I told the Ridgeliners.. this is a popular Lake Tahoe campground and summer week end reservations will fill up fast. I know many of you are planning to attend but haven't yet made your reservations. Don't procrastinate on this. If you wait too long you might not be able to get a reservation on the selected dates.

Even if you are not 100% sure of whether or not you're going to be able to attend.. "cover your bases" Go ahead and make a reservation anyhow. It will only cost you $27.00 and you can get a cancellation refund if you need to. Plus there's always a few wait until the last moment peeps that the reservation could be sold to. The risks of loosing your $27.00 are minimal if any.

This is going to be a great camping trip. Don't let it slip by you.

Miss Ellie :-D

Two more Ridgeline owners have signed up for the Tahoe Trip. Some others have time shares or live in the area and will be attending too.
So far we've got more Elements than our Ridgeline cousins going but this could change.

So stop procrastinating.

Need more EOC peeps to be there with us !

What could be more fun than rambling and gambling at Lake Tahoe?
Every out door recreational activity imaginable and all of it happening under the blue skys of one of the world's most spectacular lakes!

Giving some serious consideration to flying out there for this one. How far should the drive be from the Oakland Airport? Miss Ellie, I know you have said there should be mountain biking... are we talking downhill or cross country?

Here is what I am thinking and someone please tell me if this sounds doable.

Fly into Oakland on Friday morning with my gear and mountain bike (in pieces) then drive out to Tahoe. Assemble bike, have fun camping and riding. Then drive down to Southern California taking a few days to enjoy the sites then hang with my Sister/Hubby then depart the following Saturday. Jeep Cherokee or Ford Exploder can be rented for the week for around $250+...

Sound doable? How many camp sites are available? How many tents are allowed on each site? Are people sharing camping sites? Would there be places along the way for me to stop and pickup provisions? Cooler, chair, food, etc... lol Can't expect to fly with all of that stuff. I will try and pack sleeping bag, tent, bike with tools.

Any input would be appreciated.

I can tell ya that the drive from Oakland to Tahoe, in optimal conditions, is going to take ya about 4 hrs. Considering you'd be coming in on a Friday, depending on the time of day, you can expect quite a bit longer. Don't quote my times though, I'm just guesstimating.. the drive for me (central valley to tahoe) takes just about 3 hrs...

I checked some flights and would try to get into Oakland before 12 so I could possibly be out on the road 1-2pm would be my guess. Unless I should look into arriving the night before and assembling my bike in a hotel room then heading out to Tahoe early Friday morning...

Hi Larry. That's great news! You should check out flying into Reno, Nevada instead of Oakland. Reno is a mere 40 miles away from Lake Tahoe. Mountain Biking downhill or crosscountry? Pick yer poison here Larry. there are three great downhill Mountain Bike Parks w/lifts. Squaw Valley is the best w/hand groomed single and double track trails. It's the decent of champions. World records are broken here! (so are many bones and butts for that matter.. yuk yuk yuk)

Crosscountry? I suspect that we are still talking about Mountain Biking? Only some of the finest back country Mnt. Bike trails in the country are here. Punch in "Mountain Bike Trails in Lake Tahoe" on your MSN search bar and start drooling! The TRT, (Tahoe Rim Trail) Mr.Toad's Wild Ride, The Flume and many more world class trails are yours to ride. Go visit those web links and check them out.

If "cross country" is referring to touring or road cycling, the road around the lake is like a hundred miles long, (71 miles actually) well paved, smooth as glass in most places and offers a constant view of the lake as do the Mt. Bike Parks and most of the back country bike trails.

We have an extra tent or two you can use. Campsites are still available or you can double up with us or others who've already thier made reservations. 2 vehicles per site and up to 8 people. We will be going up there on Wednesday instead of Friday as we're planning to make a one week vacation out of it. Let me know if you need more info. Check out these Bike Trails and let me know what you think of them.

Anything. I repeat anything.. that you may need in the way of camping gear (rentals or purchases) and/or provisions are available at Lake Tahoe. So don't go worry yourself over that.

Thx R... Checking flights to Reno and flying home from Burbank. Unfortunately doesn't look lke anyone flies direct to Reno from JFK... will check other airports tomorrow. Would prefer not to transfer planes with a bike. lol

Are people bringing Mountain Bikes or Road Bikes? I can bring either one... Enjoy both types of riding. Cross Country = Mountain Bike aka Single Track Downhill isn't my cup of tea, though I do have the body armour for it. :) Broke a helmet last August and gave myself quite a few lump/bumps. Surprised I didn't rebreak my ribs as I landed square on them onto a large rock. It wasn't even 12 months when I crashed again. lol

I see the problem with your bike. At worse you'll have a 4 hr drive from Oaktown. We'll be driving up from LA about 10-12 hrs as we tend to goof off a lot on the way. But we drive up the backside of the eastern slope of the Sierras instead of up through the tediously boring and dreadfully hot San Joaqine Valley on the western side. We gotta be on the road by 3:00 AM to do this comfortably as you have to beat the heat of the fry pan in hell Mohave Desert. But it's actually a great time to drive it as we get to see the sun slowly rise over some most incredible high desert terrain. It's really something to experience. By the time we make it to Bishop (half way to Tahoe) for breakfast it's around 7:00 AM and already starting to fry outside. But now you begin the upward climb into the high Sierras and a welcoming 20 degree temperature dip with another 3-4 hrs of absolutely wonderful scenery all the way to Lake Tahoe.

I am not sure whos bringing what types of bikes. But I am sure you will be seeing a little bit of everything. Some of us will be cruisers and novices, others will be intermediate, to more advanced in both Mountain and Road Bikes. Hubby Gene is a crusier, rides a nice bike and all but he rarely ever goes very far. He's into low impact stuff. Won't do big time bike rides, climbs or backcountry. Just cruises around the campground and surrounding paved bike paths. He likes that. My knee is funky so I don't ride at all anymore. In fact it got funky this way when I fell off my bike a few years ago. Sold the damn thing and haven't been on one since.

FYI Roading cycling is just as great as Mountain Biking here. And the local bike paths all around the lake are wonderful too. Here's a link that you'll find useful www.tahoesbest.com (http://www.tahoesbest.com) it's got plenty of info on biking and other activities. Your point of reference (as it's a very big lake) is South Lake Tahoe where you'll be camping at the Tahoe Valley Campground.

I spoke with Jan at the Tahoe Valley Campground today. She says that "7" EOC campsite reservations have been booked so far.

I also asked her about remaining availablity for additional sites. She says there is still good campsite availabilty for all of you fence sitting stragglers and other procrastinators who have not yet reserved sites. So if you're thinking of going to Tahoe for this camping trip, try to book your reservations asap.

The Sierra snow pack is huge this year and that means there will be phenominal run off this summer with lakes, streams, creeks and rivers at optimal levels for all manner of recreational water sports. Need I say more?

CYA there!

Hey EOC members! Don't miss out on this sure to be a blast trip organized by the well traveled and dynamic duo, Miss Ellie (that's the name of their E). They only had to talk to me once to get me to sign up (we met at the Joshua Tree rockclimbing outing in March). There are many options on things to do in Tahoe but here I will press for a group whitewater rafting outing! C'mon, there's no better way to build camaraderie among Element owners than to maneuver through rollercoaster waves on a raft together. I've only done it once in CO and it was such a thrill. Whether you're a seasoned paddlehead or completely new to the experience, a fun and challenging ride as a team can be had by all by matching the skill levels to the difficulty. Anyone game? What do you say Surphknut & Jdiane? Gene and Richelle? And Box-4-Rox, Spdrcr5, 5thElement, Boxer, BC246T? Do we have a roll call of everyone that has signed up? If we can get enough interest from the Ridgeline owners as well, we could have an EOC raft and an ROC raft. Imagine the possibilities ...

I'm lazy and didn't feel like reading all the way at the top of the thread... how many people can share a camp site?

I am going to be booking my flights this weekend, getting my hotel reservations and my KOA reservations also.

Here is what my plans are; for those that care. :D

Flying from NY to Las Vegas Aug 16, will then head to Tahoe on the 18th at around 3am. Richelle said there should be some people heading up through the Dessert who might be able to meet me in Bishop (wherever that is) lol

I'll depart Tahoe most likely Monday and stop Monday night in the KOA in Santa Cruz. Next stop will be the KOA in Santa Margarita then on Wednesday I'll be in Sherman Oaks with my Sister and her Hubby.

I'll fly back home on the 26th.

I will be bringing my Mountain Bike. Not going to bring 2 bikes on this trip. lol Hope some other people bring mountain bikes so we can ride the trails. Don't worry, I don't go crazy with jump and stuff. Just enjoy riding off-road as much as I enjoy riding on-road.

Planning on renting a Jeep or some other SUV for the 10 days. Should be lots of fun. Looking forward to this.

Wow guys! Things are moving along rather nicely for the Tahoe trip this August. Glenn has booked the lucky number "8" campsite reservation. ( ROTFL at the Joshua Tree E Troupe on the raft photo!) KM just booked "Number Nine, Number Nine, Number Nine.." and is now offically our designated Spy-Glass-Look-Out-Go-To-Guy for "Tahoe Tessie" sightings. I guess that there are still some border-line, mentally disturbed, locals in the area that swear that the California version of Scotland's Loc Ness monster actually exists. Canadians have Sasquatch, Scotland has it's Nessie and California has both Michael Jackson and Tahoe Tessie!

SPDRCR5 Larry (bless his heart) is flying in from New York to Las Vegas and driving to Tahoe that Friday where he's hopeful to hook up with some of us SoCal EOC peeps who'll be driving north through the Mohave Desert moonlight at 3:00 AM via US 395. The plan would be to meet up for breakfast in Bishop, California (halfway mark) a 7:00 AM. This can easily be coordinated and I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to provide a Element escort parade for Larry and the last 3-4 hours of his road trip.. which is a very beautiful drive through the Sierras, arriving at Lake Tahoe around noon.

"I'm so jazzed !"

Miss Ellie

Oh yeah, 2 vehicles per campsite Larry. And up to 8 people per site should you get lucky with some Vegas Showgirls or decide to pick up hitchhikers along on the way.

Ferrum: No doggie dogs are allowed on the White Water Rafts? Bummer. So what will my hubby "Gene" and Mike's dog "Obi" gonna be doing then? I suppose they could baby sit one another while everyone else is getting soaked in the river. Yuk Yuk Yuk

Oh I do hope you come. We'll keep our fingers crossed that you do. Just keep thinking Tahoe, Tahoe, Tahoe. There are plenty of great little motels for all budgets up there should you not want to camp. But I bet we can find a way of squeezing you and your Element into a campsite no matter when it is you decide that you can go.

p.s. Do you have a SSM with Blue Body Panels too?

Thanks! :) I think I just got a job, so I should be able to figure ouut vacation within the next few weeks. I dont have a tent, so it would jjust be me sleeping in my E :D

I have the original SSM with the gray panels. I really like the blue panels, though- it makes them stannd out more :)

Congrats on the new job! Very excited about you coming along.

Half the people attending will also be sleeping in their Es.

Should be very funny.

Just imagine a campground full of snoring Elements! :D

Hi Marktoonz :)

"Nice E"!

We'll look forward to seeing you at Tahoe then!
This will be big fun.
I can't recommend which day would be better. Which ever day is best for you would be a good choice.
Most of the current info and activity on the trip has moved over to the "Tahoe Roll Call" thread.
You can tune in there to see who's planning to attend, check out the latest updates and our instant in-depth, up to the minute news coverage.

I could not go, as I had to get ready for the www.burningman.com event.

How did this go? How many showed up? Pics?
Thanks,
Dylan
