: Are you a member of the 100mph club?
Vigilante 02-06-2006, 06:39 PM So I know the E wasn't built to compete with any sports car, but it still has plenty under the hood to get you where you want to go faster than the posted speed limits (not that I condone speeding. Breaking the law is bad!)
However,
This weekend I was on my way out to Vegas and there were some long downhill straight-aways and no noticeable headwind; so decided to see if I could get the E to triple digits. It was pretty easy. The engine was working a little with RPMs around 5. I toped out at about 105 before she really started working hard and was beginning to be a little uncomfortable.
I'm not suggesting it is a good idea to take your E over 100, the arrow dynamics suck, but if you already did it. Let me know when, where, and how it handled.
Beaker 02-06-2006, 06:48 PM it's not illegal everywhere
how was the handling?
Totin' Notes 02-06-2006, 06:58 PM the arrow dynamics suck
Yeah, they do. I blame the Cadillac converter.

Miss Ellie & Co. 02-06-2006, 07:48 PM Not me. I am a member of the keep it under 85 MPH Club
jdiane 02-06-2006, 07:55 PM is the 100 mph club anything like the mile high club?? :D
never taken the E past 90, but I used to do 105-110 all the time in my parents Camry when I was young and invincible  its amazing I didnt wrap that thing aroud a tree
ADAMLSTL 02-06-2006, 07:58 PM Most days... Love the speed. My E does not seem too lumber to much at all at high speeds.... I cruise about 85 in it 5 days a week....
I do miss my old Prelude but, My V6EX Accord is my 4 door sports car now.
Not in the "E",but I did hit 170 mph (GPS verified) on my bike!

Nouseforaname 02-06-2006, 08:21 PM Last winter on a trip to Elk I got my E to 96. I then realized that doing that in a box with a snowboard strapped to the roof was kinda stupid so I slowed it down a bit.
rootyblue 02-06-2006, 08:30 PM Ive posted on this before 105 I-24 coming from Nasville to Murfreesboro.... was Grrreeaat Ive added bigger tires and handling was great
Sheniferous 02-06-2006, 08:37 PM in the E i've hit 118 (gps) on the way back to LA from SF.
in my old 91 accord i had hit 130 (indicated) or so on the elevated carpool lane at like 3am.
i recommend doing neither as it's extremely unsafe and could result in injury, disfigurement, or loss of life.
now i drive 60 - 70mph because it increases my fuel efficiency by 15% compared to when i used to drive 75 - 85mph on the freeways.
SquadONE YH1 02-07-2006, 05:08 AM I've hit 110 and I can't go any more because the computer in my El has a limiter. That sucks. Handling wasn't bad just wish I didn't have that limiter. 140 in my previous car and 170 on the bike.
Patman 02-07-2006, 05:28 AM Never done it in the E, that's for sure...
kissya 02-07-2006, 05:31 AM  Too dangerous for me....85mph is my limit.:D
wankerklink 02-07-2006, 06:08 AM Never in the E--fastest 85. Many times over 120 in my invincible youth. My most intense time at speed was 5yrs. ago on highway 53 in Minnesota after it becomes 2 lanes (Virginia, I think). Was trying to pass an old couple in a Camry in a 4 lane Passing zone, they sped up and I wound up going 90mph pulling my Walleye boat.
spdrcr5 02-07-2006, 07:12 AM Have not hit 100 in the E, mid 90's is about it. Previous highs, hmmm...
Just under 160 in my TT.
175+ in a 1979 911 Turbo (with a ton of work) Closed road for a magazine shoot.
150+ in my GT4 race car down the main straight at Bridgehampton Raceway years ago.
145 in my 1988 16V GTI on a trip to VT to ski. I topped out every vehicle I have ever owned, except the Element. I used to enjoy driving a bit over the speed limit, now I just cruise around. :)
There is a very nice flat, straight concrete road along the Ocean here on Long Island that is a speeders paradise, especially in the winter when the Troopers cut back on patrolling the road. This is the same road we had closed down for the magazine shoot I mentioned above. The 911 Turbo was closed that day at around 200, but with a professional driver behind the wheel.
M1 1I 1K 1E 02-07-2006, 08:44 AM Definately not in the E,
Even tho i'm only 20 years old for some reason I just get real nervous about getting caught speeding, theres no "youth" about it, i was pulled over for going 75 in a 55 (on the beltway right when it turns 55 as your getting closer to the bay bridge) so thats kinda taught me that 20 over the limit tickets are no fun. I've never been over 80 in the E.
However I have hit 130 in a 1989 Porshe 911 Turbo going down PCH. Now THAT was fun!
spdrcr5 02-07-2006, 09:04 AM Discussing speeding tickets would be a whole new thread in and of itself. lol I can tell you some stories about speeding, both getting caught and not getting caught. lol Both my stories and friends.
M1 1I 1K 1E 02-07-2006, 09:08 AM haha well? lets hear em!
lizzurd 02-07-2006, 09:29 AM I have hit 170 a few times.......oh wait...thats 170 kph or just over 100 mph....wasnt too bad....but im guessing one good cross wind and id have left a hell of a green strip on the guard rail.....
Elemen-O-P 02-07-2006, 11:26 AM Had my E over the century mark a couple times..but only briefly. Something just aint right driving a brick at those speeds. Now my '89 Prelude is a different story:evil: I've had that up and over the 120 mark while driving home from Santa Rosa to Stockton through Napa and out by Travis A.F.B. on hwy 12, several times... definitely fun!
80 mile trip...average time doing the speed limit 1hr 45min....
going as fast as heavenly possible after 11pm... !!!53 minutes!!!
I'm gonna die young...:D
JPH102900 02-07-2006, 02:34 PM First of all, I share the E with my fiancee (she acutally bought it but we share our money) so I would never take it up to 100. Plus, with the low gas milage that we already get in the E, I dont want to make it worse by going 100. Also, she got a speeding ticket a few months ago, it was the first ticket either of us have ever had but we have been being very careful not to speed by more than like 5 - 7 over the limit.
Vigilante 02-07-2006, 05:53 PM I didn't keep it over 100 for long, about 30 sec-1 min. There was no major wind that I noticed, (which is mainly why I was willing to try it) and it was a straight-away so handling wasn't an issue. However, I would never consider taking the E in any turns at much over the posted speeds.
chimphappyhour 02-07-2006, 10:34 PM Are you kidding? The whole reason I buy vehicles like the E is to discourage driving fast. My last car (a VW), I would get tickets just by sneezing, that was geting expensive. My E is for sitting back and relaxing.
rhythm_ace 02-07-2006, 10:50 PM It would be kinda kewl to take it to Bonneville or something. I don't like the idea of endangering the general public much, though. Not that I'm an angel or anything...just wiser now.

I have to agree with you here. In my Nissian Altima I found that everytime I got behind the wheel I was in a hurry. The car begged to be driven fast. In the "E" I don't seem to worry about time. Could care less.

MikeQBF 02-08-2006, 09:41 AM Once in the E, and it was defensive - an 18-wheeler pilot got his panties all in a wad because I was blocked from changing out of the right-hand lane when he was merging from an on-ramp, and he then tried to take us out several times on a downhill. The chrome teeth you see on some truck's grilles are a pretty reliable indicator of "bad attitude behind wheel", and should be prima facie justification to pulling the owner's CDL.
Anyway... [sigh]... other than that, 85 is as fast as I'll take it (passing on a 2-lane, for instance) only because that's just about the point where the handling turns noticably squirrelly. IOW, 85 isn't a magic number per se, it just happens to be roughly the point where the handling dynamics get ugly.
BigTzElement 02-09-2006, 09:15 AM I have had my E up to about 90. I don't think I have hit the century mark.
I have however had this up to 160+.
markrose 02-09-2006, 09:51 PM Last time I went that fast was on I-80 on the curve in the bridge in Joliet, Illinois in my 1984 CRX in 1986. Before that was on a Honda CB400F when I was a teenager.
Elemen-O-P 02-10-2006, 11:31 AM WOOHOO!! Just did about 110 lastnight on I-5 southbound from Lodi to Stockton... word of advice... don't have your heater on, blowing you in your face, at a pretty high temp if you plan on sustaining 90+ for an extended period of time.. I did lastnight and 'bout melted my face off!!
yup... I'm gonna die young!
