: Calling Ottawa owners
crazycat 05-29-2003, 03:02 PM Hello all. I haven't received my Element yet (supposed to be mid-June) we shall see. I think this site is great and I'm looking for fellow owners or potential owners in the Ottawa region, Eastern Ontario or Western Quebec. Cheers
phishisgruvin 05-29-2003, 03:41 PM I was supposed to pick mine up in mid June as well...things have very suddenly taken a turn for the better! After placing a call to my salesman asking for an update he basically had to come out and tell me that there was no way they were going to make the mid-June delivery for my black Y AWD E. The build date had been pushed back to June 17 and he wasn't even sure we'd be able to get it for the beginning of July (when we need it for a big roadtrip/camping expedition)....
HOWEVER...
They just received 2 SOP Y AWDs! Since the SOP had intrigued us all along my wife and I decided to grab one while we could so our summer plans weren't completely hosed... SO...
We pick it up Saturday morning!
All of this to say that there will be one more E owner in the nation's capital. Maybe if there's enough of us some day we'll be able to show those Markham folks how it's done!
Peace
crazycat 05-30-2003, 10:31 AM Hi phishisgruvin. Good to hear from another Ottawa Elementer. Sounds like a good compromise on your purchase. Mine apparently is still scheduled for delivery in mid June. Hmmm. LOL. I've dealt with the dealer for quite a few years and think that they're fairly trustworthy. Again. Hmmm. From what I read it probably won't come til July. I'm getting a green Y 5spd.
BB with the E 05-30-2003, 05:55 PM Hey guys...I'm not sure how to take that!!
Jonathan B (husband) and I will be driving thru your neck of the woods at the end of June. We should hook up either on our way to Quebec (Cheneville) or on our way home. I can't remember when the Ottawa Beer Festival is, I have a feeling it's Mid-July though...that would have been fun!! We could have all crashed in our "E"'s!
We'll be on our way through probably Sunday the 22 or Monday the 23 then returning home June 28th.
Keep in touch...
BB
phishisgruvin 06-02-2003, 10:23 AM No offense intended BB! There's hardly any E owners in this area as far as I can tell so we have to puff out our chests a little!
Well, the first weekend of E ownership has gone by and it was a blast!!! It sure does wonders for the ego to have people honking and waving and giving the thumbs up when you drive past...even the quizzical or scrunchy faced looks are kinda cool. The SOP helps as well since the thing really stands out.
Not a single glitch with the vehicle so far...I should hope not since it's only got 169km on it as of this morning!
I also got to check out the cleanability of the floor surfaces...I've been driving an Audi A4 for the last 4 years and suffice it to say the cornering characteristics of the A4 and the E are somewhat different... :-) We were driving home with some flower pots in the back and one of them tipped over and spilled half its dirt load in the cargo area. One ShopVac application and one damp soapy rag later and you wouldn't have even known it happened.
Anyway, here's hoping some more Ottawa E owners come out of the woodwork...and BB, if you and hubby are passing through for sure drop me a line on this thread or via PM and possibly we can work out a quick meet and patio stop somewhere...after a week and a half of solid rain it looks like the sun is finally coming back to eastern Ont...here's hoping it holds.
Later,
Phishisgruvin
BB with the E 06-02-2003, 10:47 AM Deal!! We'll keep in contact...
as for the plant (and grovceries..they like to slide around too)...there are Rubbermaid containers at Walmart that work perfect for in the cargo area of the E. We paid $7.95 (I think) each...got 2 of them and the seats still go flat when they are in there...great value and less mess!! as for the contatiners sliding...that anti skid stuff mostly used on dashboards glued to the bottom works perfect!!
Ciao for now...
Brenda
phishisgruvin 06-02-2003, 10:57 AM I actually found a solution for the grocery bag problem...there are two retractable hooks (one on each side) on the side panels of the cargo area that I presume are there for holding grocery bags...at least I hope that's what they're for! I had them loaded up pretty well with some heavy stuff (oven roast) and a couple of bottles of wine and there didn't seem to be any give or bending.
ERider 06-02-2003, 10:58 AM I'll be traveling to Ottawa some time in June to visit friends and family as well as my favorite Chinese food place "The Golden Palace" The BEST Egg Rolls anywhere.
Actually I'm going for Egg Rolls and seeing friends.

Those hooks are actually for the Cargo net...but that works too!! HEY here's an idea...instead of getting the cargo net, just get a bungee cord hook one end to a hook then thread the bungee through the handles of the bags hook the other end to the other side and make sure it is pretty tight...that would also keep the from dumping...! Brilliant! too bad we already spent the $$ on the cargo net....it's still worth having, but as a secondary solution, that's great!
crazycat 06-02-2003, 12:03 PM I want my Element now! I happened to see a GG Y on Friday night at the football game. Asked the owner how long he had waited - said he ordered it in early May and got it just after Victoria Day! Hope mine is as quick. Completely forgot to ask him if he knew about this club or not. If you're visiting town after mid June hopefully I'll be able to join in on the fun. Great idea about the bungee cord and the cargo hooks - I almost ordered the cargo net - thanks for the great idea.
crazycat 06-09-2003, 01:02 PM I knew it had to happen. I won't be the first person in my neighbourhood to get a GG Element. :( There is a GG that I keep seeing around Old Ottawa South, east of Bank. As I read in another message board, it's kinda like showing up to a big party and seeing someone with the same dress! Ah well, the more the merrier - especially since I'm still waiting for mine. I'd like to hear from this GG owner to find out how they are enjoying their vehicle. :)
thirstE 06-14-2003, 06:52 AM ..to post. hi folks, Black Y westender. 18k since end of Jan, 24mpg, new rockers and rear fenders (#@!) at 10k.
thirstE 06-15-2003, 05:18 PM Oh yeah, ID..., check the "i-vtec" emblem on the rear decklid, yours hasn't got one.

BB with the E 06-18-2003, 08:01 AM Hello Ottawa "EO"'s!
Jonathan b and I will be heading on our treck to northern Quebec on Sunday June 22. We want to know if anyone wants to get together for a couple of brewskies?
We will have our beloved boxer, Petey, with us so we won't be able to stay very long, but thought it would be great to meet all you guys!
You can leave me a PM with a cell number and I will do the same so we can be in communicato as we near our great Nation's Capital!
or
If you want to pre arrange something, post an idea and we will discuss in it the forum!
I am not sure what time we will be arriving in Ottawa (I am going to the "Concert for Toronto" at Skydome and Jon has a Golf tourney on the Saturday before we leave.... translation: we might be a little on the "beaten" side Sunday morning!) But we want to try and get an early start either way! We hope to be in the Ottawa area for noonish or early afternoon.
Let me know what you all think! hope fully we can arrange something for the way there, if not, maybe for the way back!!
Talk To Ya Soon!
BB
thirstE 06-19-2003, 05:20 AM Hey BB
Tied up (not literally ) on Sunday, honk on the 416, maybe our E will hear and honk back ;-)
Speaking of dogs, ours were ping ponging in the back. Probably old news but Home Hardware sells black carpet runner with a rubber backing. the 36" stuff fits perfect between the wheelwells and gives lots of traction. Carpet lies flat and when the seats are in, we just rest the seat brackets on the carpet and roll it back when there's passengers so the brackets lock in.
ThirstE
BB with the E 06-19-2003, 06:43 AM That's too bad, we we will be coming back thru the weekend of the 28-29, We will try to post again...
We have a dog "tent" that Petey is safe and sound in the back. He's older and no longer enjoys the "car ride" as much. This way he feels safe and secure, and we don't have to worry about him. The seats are folded up and he is it the tent in the middle... it's soft and has lots of ventilation. Got it at Petcetera
Well we'll honk all right....if you do see us...make sure you flag us down, we have our EOC sticker rear glass passenger side, bottom corner.
crazycat 06-19-2003, 02:12 PM Sadly will be in Montreal on Sunday. I don't have my E yet but am anxious to meet up with those that do. Are you coming back through Ottawa?
ThirstE - what's up with having to get new rockers and fenders at 10K?
thirstE 06-19-2003, 04:52 PM Hey CC
the arch just in front of the rear wheel were pitted good and a little bit on the rockers and same just above the wheel arch. Soft plastic meets road grit I guess? Dealer contacted Honda who replaced them but goodwill only not warranty. I was gonna argue but figured I'd pick my battles with lots of warranty left. When the panels were replaced, I put on Honda mud flaps. Don't wait, DO IT! Now at 19k I have some minor pitting but not the sandblasted look like before. Ideally the E needs a bigger mudflap up front than stock which I may yet do but I don't want it to look stupid.
First gen CRV's had a similar problem (Honda, do you listen?) and sorta fixed it with a clear plastic overlay, something also to be considered.
ThirstE
gmdod 06-23-2003, 01:03 PM Well Crazy Cat hope you have your E by now.
Just read your post and I live smack dab in the middle of Ottawa and I have been driving My E for a Month.
Have you seen the BOB radio E - Man I think it ruins it.
GM
gmdod 06-23-2003, 01:05 PM Hey Crazy Cat well I hope you have your E by now.
I live smack dab in the middle of Ottawa and Have had mine for a month.
Just read your post now - It would be nice to hook up with other E owners in the area.
has anybody seen the BOB radio E - it ruins suck a nice vehicle.
GM
crazycat 06-23-2003, 02:28 PM Hey gmdod! Welcome :D I haven't seen the BOB radio E. I can't imagine it does the vehicle any kind of justice. And such a crappy radio station as well. Which E did you get and whereabouts? Mine is still supposed to come in mid july.
gmdod 06-23-2003, 02:35 PM I have a black 2WD. I got it from Ottawa Honda on richmond.
I showed up on a Wed with my 6mth old Civic 02 and said Boby (dealers name) I need an element. We went up to the roof they had one there and I was driving it on friday. I took a bit of a hit on the civic considering i had some negative equity to deal with but It was worth it.
What end of town are you in?
GM
crazycat 06-23-2003, 02:52 PM gmdod - what a score on your E. I sometimes wonder if I should have settled on silver or blue, which Hunt Club had on the lot. But I'm a sucker for the GG and when you trade in your car every 10 years - might as well wait for what you want. I'm in Old Ottawa South - cross canal from Lansdowne.
gmdod 06-23-2003, 02:54 PM I guess so eh! Im a pretty impulse driven kinda guy and I had originally wanted the SOP but when they said 2 mths I said screw that I want it now.
One of my best friends lives across the Canal from you his house backs on to the pond.
GM
crazycat 06-23-2003, 03:01 PM That's pretty impulsive. Did yours have any options on it? I opted for mudflaps and a centre console - will see what is required once I'm familiar with the vehicle. There's already a ton of after market stuff out there as well. Your friend's house backs onto the pond? Wow - is he a zillionaire
gmdod 06-23-2003, 10:39 PM I didnt get any accessories to speak of.
I got AC and a CD player.
I have already installed speakers in the front with tweeters
removed the badges
started on a grill for the front i hae a temporary one in now without the big H
I also installed a 10 disk sony cd changer under the front passenger seat
and put carpet in the cargo area - stops stuff from sliding so much.
Nah my friend aint a zillionare, well off though i guess.
Quinns on bank is named after him.

That's funny, gmdod...I went the exact opposite way. We wanted black originally (and were told there was a 2 month wait) but when Dow Honda had 2 SOPs available we jumped at one of them. We could have gone with a different dealership I suppose but since Dow is a 1 minute walk from our house it seemed like the place to deal with.
gmdod 06-24-2003, 09:48 AM Well now I'm Jealous but I do like the black - I think it suits my style - different but not too different.
Did you put a phish sticker on your truckette yet??
phishisgruvin 06-24-2003, 10:04 AM No stickers on there yet...I'm sure by the end of the summer there might be one or two!
crazycat 06-24-2003, 10:04 AM GM, I've seen some of the grill covers that CloudRider is putting out for the E. Black ones and chrome ones. Pretty sharp. There's lots of info in the accessories message board.
gmdod 06-24-2003, 01:18 PM Ya I've seen em as well but I really wanted to get rid of the big H - I love the curious looks.
The cloud rider ones i think are just screens or do they have grills as well?
You should go to there website and read there mission statement - there name will make a lot more sense after you do.
GM
thirstE 06-24-2003, 04:07 PM Now we're getting a few members. Thanks for starting the Ottawa thing , CC.
I hadn't thought about taking the H off but yeah, a smaller H or none would look better.
I put my name in last Aug. with the dealer for a AWD 5 speed GG, then I found out only auto. so said sure. The dealer calls Jan 21 and says Black Y is in Jan 24 so I said what about GG, he says what about six months?! The rusty '93 Civic with 250km wasn't so sure about July so I bought the black E.
gmdod 06-24-2003, 09:02 PM Im so happy :D I didn't have to wait because I really would not know what I would have done. Gone Crazy maybe?
Ya its pretty neat to have this E thing going on in Ottawa.
GM
crazycat 06-24-2003, 10:09 PM i'll check out their website GM. I hope we start to get a few more Ottawa folks in the loop. I'm a total novice when it comes to doing any kind of modifications. Would be interested to hear what others have done or are doing to their Es.
So I'm driving by Hunt Club Honda tonight and sitting right in front is a GG E. I'm thinking - holy crap, my E came in early. I swing in, zip over to it to find a very lucky guy getting his intro from the salesman to HIS new E :( I just looked at him wistfully, knowing that soon (hopefully) I'll be in the drivers seat. He drove away with the biggest **** eating grin on his face. I think I will have the same reaction when I pick up mine
thirstE 06-25-2003, 04:11 PM I'm kinda caught between cosmetics and performance, the grill sounds cool and I need a roof rack and, and... but most of my driving is over 80kph and flooring the thing at 100 isn't all that inspiring. On the other hand having the dealer say "sorry warranty voided" just ain't in my vocabulary.
At the least though, I'll put a cold air intake on it, there's so many twists in the induction, it might make the vtec sing a bit.
gmdod 06-26-2003, 08:21 AM When you do get the Cold Air Intake let me know which one and where you got it, im pretty curious about them.
You will have that same **** eating grin soon.....well hopefully soon.
GM
ps I saw a green one on the parkway this morning - they do look pretty sweet.
thirstE 06-26-2003, 07:38 PM I haven't seen a green one yet, looking forward to it. I take Laurier from Kent over to Vanier every morning, I keep seeing an orange one around nicholas/laurier elgin every morning at 7:15 but I'm always back from the intersection to wave/honk/thumbs up.
thirstE
gmdod 06-27-2003, 07:15 AM Im actually a little bummed cause whenever I see another E i try to wave Honk or whatever and I have never been seen by the other E - maybe its cause im driving a black one?? I actually pulled alongside one that was being taken for a test drive and I gave them a smile thumbs up type thing and they looked at me like i was crazy. Oh well I'll keep trying. Maybe I need a friend  Just kidding.
ThirstE what Colour is your E - I forgot already?
GM
thirstE 06-28-2003, 05:03 AM GM
yeah, it's not like you bought a four door Cavalier, you'd think people wuold make the connection...
Mine's black too, a Y with air deflector, mudguards and an "i-vtec" emblem opposite the Element emblem on the rear decklid.
gmdod 06-28-2003, 01:11 PM Well If you see a Black E without Badges on the back chances R its me.
So if I see ya Ill make sure to wave and try and catch your attention.
Man It looks like were gonna have some nice weather on Canada Day!
 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Have A happy Canada Day fellow Canadian E Owners
GM
crazycat 06-28-2003, 04:25 PM I'll keep an eye out for both of you. If you see a green 93 suzuki 4dr with some rusty back fenders honk and say hello. My E is still scheduled for delivery the week of Jul 14. I want it now. Happy Canada Day one and all!
crazycat 07-03-2003, 09:12 AM Well the dealer called - my E has a VIN - it's build date was scheduled for June 25th. If things go as they should (fingers crossed) then the vehicle should still arrive the week of July 14th. So close...
thirstE 07-03-2003, 03:36 PM I guess if they have a VIN , it really does exist, a tough wait. Still haven't seen a green one except pictres. The dealer in Smiths Falls ( Rally Honda) has a base model in black and a full load SOP, still can't get used to the colour.
thirstE 07-10-2003, 03:54 PM Finally face to face (or E to E) with the SOP that runs around nicholas/laurier/elgin every morning. Honked, waved like a fool but too cool for me i guess. Must be the type that bought a Miata, then a Beetle, then a PT Cruiser just to have one. Mine'll be the one covered in mud from the hiking and biking, the salt from the snowshoeing and yep, check the roof there's a dogsled there in the winter too.
Kinda like the $500 parka that never goes anywhere but from mall to mall. There, i feel better...
ThirstE
phishisgruvin 07-11-2003, 10:53 AM Is it being driven by an older guy? I've gone by him too in my SOP and he never even looks in my direction...If it was being driven by a woman that might have been my wife! :-) First day in a while that I haven't driven in...I apologize profusely on her behalf.
gmdod 07-11-2003, 11:58 AM What can we do Eh! unfortunately not everyone is as outgoing as we are.
Maybe there Americans living here? ;)
SO did everyone have a good Canada day?
GM
thirstE 07-11-2003, 04:49 PM Yeah, older guy grey hair, grey beard. I'll save the wave for the real people...
crazycat 07-15-2003, 03:35 PM Hey guys:
My E has arrived. I pick it up Thursday night! I can now become a bona fide E dork.
thirstE 07-16-2003, 04:44 PM Great News CC!
and you have the benefit of the early owners(me) trial by fire knowledge. Mud flaps (absolutely )and air deflector (good idea) Plus avoid like the plague getting wax near those #$%@ panels. After reading and reading all the posts (and really crappy results with ArmorAll) I'm going to buy the Lexol Vinylex to a) get the wax off and b) use as a protectant for the panels.
we'll be on the lookout.

gmdod 07-17-2003, 09:02 AM Well I guess today is the day - Your probably pretty excited.
Hey thirtsE where are you gonna get the lexol ?
Ive been using Armor all on the inside and the "pro armor all" on the panels its not the best i guess but I just haven't really seen anything else I saw the mother back to black and when i went to buy it they were gone.
But for the actually paint ive been using Mcguires pro stuff its in a beige bottles it turns out amazing if you follow there steps and it really aint that hard. I can email you some pics if you like.
But man is the E ever a dust magnet.

thirstE 07-17-2003, 08:10 PM CC: first nite, first mother nature car wash! Hope ya missed the hail
GM: Dust magnet it is, I bought one of those "seen on TV" California car dusters from Cdn Tire (made sure no one was looking when I did) Turns out the thing works pretty good, sure saves washing and wiping all the time. And agree with meguiars, i finally gave up on mother's, the carnuaba wax (step 3) was a bitch, it never dried and really tuff to buff. meguiars 3 step is much easier.
As for the Lexol, I did a board search, turns out good ole Zellers is the place to go, I'll keep you guys posted. Armorall (orig.) on the panels was a milky multi shaded disaster, still use it on the inside though.
ThirstE
crazycat 07-17-2003, 09:52 PM Yep, ThirstE. It was quite a car wash. No hail though. Then the sun came and out and dried it up completely. Spent the evening driving around. Have noticed already that the tailgate dome light doesn't go off all the time. In spite of that, love my E!
gmdod 07-18-2003, 07:11 AM Thanks for the Tip ThirstE
Im gonna have to hit up the good ol Zellers tonight then - My E is a mess
Parking Under trees seems like a good idea Until every bird in the tree ****s on it.
I thought about the California Car duster - But same problem as you  and its even tuffer for me cause there is a cute girl who works the cash and she always seems to be there I don't want her thinking im insane - she gave me a wierd look when i bought a buffer - a kind of is this how your gonna spend your friday night look
bETTER THEN working at Canadian tire on a friday night i keep telling myself.
Well Ill be looking for ya on the road CC
Hope the dome light is the only annoying problem I have the rocking front seat thing going on but i kinda like so i don't know if im gonna take it in or not.

give the seals a couple of weeks, the warning light kept telling me the side door was open so I had to turn the dome light off manually, after about a week it went away.

shurely once she finds out you have an E :D . After all Dale Jr. says sometimes having the right car makes all the difference... How could he be wrong. 'Course I watch Star Trek so like I'd know anything ...

crazycat 07-21-2003, 01:46 PM First full weekend with the E! I'm in love. Someone posted that Honda should be paying them for promoting the car. I know how he feels. Shopping on Saturday and Sunday, wound up giving 6 demos to curious passersby. Very fun. I was quite impressed on the highway - I'm not sure why some people think the tire noise is obtrusive. It barely registers. The tailgate warning light stayed on for awhile - but once we hooked up the bike rack to the back the pressure must have wiggled the sensor or whatever (like I know cars  ). That's off and the dome light doesn't come on anymore when it's not supposed to Love the green interior - I find it very calming and quite subtle. The shifter on the dash is great. Very comfortable to drive. I'm in love.
gmdod 07-21-2003, 01:51 PM Ahhhh the memories of the first week with an E.
Your right about the advertisment thing, I have gotten so many thumbs up and done so many demo's its pretty flattering.
Thirst: I don't know if my E is that cool - Cool but cool enough to get me a girl ? Not to sure. Maybe a test run is in order.

isketerol 07-21-2003, 02:12 PM Hey CrazyCat, you have to go Momo with a 5spd.
thirstE 07-21-2003, 08:13 PM hey folks, check out the August issue of Car and Driver. The featured car in the Tire Rack ad is... you guessed it.
What I can't figure out is i just popped 34k for a new car, I don't know about anybody else but wheels and tires are a couple of g's I won't have for a looong time!
thirstE 09-05-2003, 05:14 PM You're front and centre in the Wheels section of today's Ottawa Citizen.
A glowing review for all of us cool enough to own one and Heck even the website even got honourable mention. :D

Jeff1192 11-18-2003, 09:49 AM Just boughy my E yesterday....picking it up Wednesday....can't wait. I live out in the east end of rural Ottawa and certainly don't see too many of them yet.
boxster 11-20-2003, 12:38 PM Welcome to the land of the fringe... my wife and I are out in Cumberland. We picked ours up last Jan and since then, have yet to get used to being stared and pointed at. It's fun at first, then a little less so (particularly when you note that some people can't look and drive at the same time). We "shaved" all badging off the back to avoid having youngbloods carving the emblems off for us (as was done on a prior vehicle we owned). So that may account for some of the confused stares we get. But aside from that, I trust you will be very pleased. There's just so much versatility! and while the motor isn't a rocket, the drivetrain is one of the smoothest I've driven.
One bit of advice... don't stand or kneel above the spare tire (on tabletop) until you've reinforced or covered it... it cracks easily.. from underneath..
Happy Motoring... 8)
thirstE 11-21-2003, 06:41 PM Glad to see the Ottawa board revived, wondered what happended to everybopdyI'm the black Y, with the ivtec emblem out back.

Jeff1192 11-22-2003, 11:51 AM I picked mine up at Hunt Club Honda....they had about 15 in stock (couldn't believe it)....it's a silver, 2WD 5spd base model, I will probably add mud guards down the road...but other than that haven't put alot of thought into any extras yet....I picked it up yesterday afternoon and I absolutely love it.
Jeff1192 11-23-2003, 07:34 AM I spotted 2 E's while working last night in the east end. The first one was around 5pm on St Joseph Blvd near Centrum and it was a green one. The second one was a black one on 10th Line and Innes at the Tim Hortons...maybe somewhere around 9:30pm or so....do these belong to anyone here? :D
boxster 11-24-2003, 11:42 AM I had to think about it a minute, from time to time it is me, but not this time. Mine's black with Yokohamas', silver steel rims, yellow foglights and a redneck at the wheel (unless wifes' driving). I'll watch for you ..we switch between 2 cars so it may be a Corolla (silver with yellow foglights) that beeps at you:P
thirstE 11-24-2003, 04:34 PM mine's a black "Y" (usually dirty, live on a dirt road  ) mud flaps, air deflector and a "i-vtec" chrome emblem on the rear hatch.
Agent 954 09-04-2006, 06:02 PM Hello all,
just joined the EOC club!!! What a great site!!!
I can't believe I've owned my 04 Element now for two years and didn't know about this forum.
Anyway, great site. Let me know if any Element get together are planned.
I'm in Kanata, Ontario.
2004 2WD, Sunset Orange EX, purchased from Dow Honda. (100%stock)
I traded my 3.2 TL for this bread box, and haven't regretted it!
Cheers
Bo
