: Do People In TX Ever Meet-up?

just curious, cause getting people in houston to meet-up must be impossible. like 1 big element fest in austin at lake travis or something.

rhythm_ace
02-25-2006, 10:42 AM
I think we should pick a date and a place and tell people to come if they want. Polling this sort of thing is near impossible.

Austin sounds good. Are there any dates to avoid because something big is going on at UT/A? Next, what kind of trip...get a hotel, camp out...? I'd like to try the camp out thing so if we do that, let's make sure it isn't freezing on that date. Finally, we could put a link in our signatures so that when Texans read our posts elsewhere, they would see it.

Hey, we've got two E's coming already!

What do you think?

I'll go to a meet up in Austin. When and where??

rhythm_ace
02-25-2006, 12:02 PM
Well all righty then.

From what little I know of Austin, I-35 can be impossible at the wrong time of day. I counsel a Saturday. If we scheduled for March 18, it gives plenty of time to schedule it in. Those who can get there on Fri can do St. Patrick's Day in town.

By putting it on a Sat, people can come and leave OR stay over for Sunday.

Thoughts? I'm going to put this thread link in my signature.

in march i will actually be in austin for the NIN tour so if we could do it the follwing weekend it would be nice , or i will just make it for both weekends.
maybe after it warms up a bit we could do a element owners club float down the guadalupe river........

Sounds like we might have something building. It will be great if almostlindy and some other Austinites sign on. Much easier to handle logistics that way.

We hooked up in Oklahoma once,(May 2005) and had about 10 Elements drive up from Dallas. We went to Bricktown in OKC, had lunch and then headed over to the Murrah Building Bombing memorial for the the afternoon, then finished up back at Bricktown for a RedHawk Baseball game...I think we had a total of 18 Elements there...

I really am sad.
I am Austin Proud and really feel the need to hook up with some Es in Austin. March 18th my E and I will be camping so I will not be able to hook up that weekend.
Lets please try this again so I can participate.

Little Woodrows @ Palmer and mopac-ish has a pretty big parking lot and an nice "pub like"outdoor area (you can look at your E while enjoy a beverage).
Show up a bit early so you can reserve the parking spaces.
over 100 beers and most of them on draft....
They have Fajita and taco thingy outside,,, I liked the fajita tacos.
If someone wants to do a sight survey mon. or tuesday with me just Yell. We can take more photos too.

One week from today...?

What do youse guys say? Is it worth the drive? We've had the issue on the boards for weeks, and some may jump on at the last moment, but no guarantees.

I don't mind driving to Austin to meet with a few E owners, but I realize some have tighter schedules, others may feel it's better to wait, etc.

As you can see, I hvae this thread in my signature, bold letters etc. As you can also see, I'm the post-er boy, so that signature's out there in 800+ posts. I guess the other Texas E's, except those in this thread, either aren't interested or aren't available.

Howdy all,

I would LOVE to go, especially if we were going to end up doing some camping or go-karting or other such funnery....Unfortunately, my wife and I have theatre tickets that day for the middle of the day. I've been lax at checking the Texas forums...bringing shame to my name. I need to do a better job at this.

I would absolutely be "in" for future E-vents. Perhaps we central Texas folks could meet every other month, or once a quarter or something and move the location around each time. Great places would include Austin (of course) San Antonio, Fredericksburg, San Marcos, etc.

We might also put some thought into "Themed" or "Season" events. I'm picturing Shiner for Bocktoberfest, Lost Maples in the fall, a bluebonnet rally in the spring, SxSW, etc...

PS - I somehow missed this thread in the first place. Thanks for the PM!

Bocktoberfest!!!
We need to start planning this. I am in!!!
We should meet somewhere outside of shiner and do the majority of the drive into Shiner together....
I need to look at a map and think about this.

Also Fredericksburg would be killer too.
I have a 5 year old so I could do kid events or family events too...

There also is the nutty Brown cafe. Huge outdoor area, great drive
Any place that includes country side driving.

Pooty hilltop bar and grill (willie's place). off of HWY71. That is near pale face state park so camping could be included in that gig.

So many options when you want to include some texas hill country driving.

Texas Jon
03-13-2006, 12:52 PM
...which is why we choose to live in the Hill Country.:D

Grivas - I totally agree with meeting someplace conv for everyone and driving in formation to the venue. I've been in numerous clubs that use this format and it's always one of the best elements of the event.

rhythm_ace
03-13-2006, 02:11 PM
I just put in a poll so we could show which date(s) are best. I'm going to figure that everybody wants Austin as a venue. To me, it's quasi-central, a happening college town, scenic, etc. and appropriate somehow since it's the capital.

Plus, I could go for some Mozart's coffee. Not that I could find the place but my bro used to live in Austin and Round Rock, and we somehow always ended up there. Nice, natural, serene setting.

Edit: Doy, forgot to give the link for the poll

I am so happy to hear this. For months I have been hoping for some sort of meet-up and to find out that the first one in Austin I was not going to make it sorta SUCKED... any---way...

Grivas...man, that's ded-E-cation!

I don't know Austin very well at all. I'd suggest that a local pick the meeting place. Somewhere on/near the major roads, like I-35, would be best. If those in attendance want to stay and/or camp, I guess that's a separate issue. Maybe people just want a meet and greet...I don't know, but hopefully they'll post.

As for the time...noonish? It'll take me a good 3.5 hours to drive it. That lets me get up at a sane hour, get down there, puts us right at lunch time.

Chrispy and Kim
03-17-2006, 10:47 AM
are we gonna do a park or resturant?(ps- i cant spell) im down for whatever.

Texas Jon
03-17-2006, 11:48 AM
Well, if we're going to meet around noonish, we probably should meet at a resturant, if for no other reason than to replenish Rythmn Ace after his long drive. I make the San Antonio to Houston or Austin to Houston drive about 25 times a year, and it's a drag...

The good news is that Austin is bursting at the seams with great joints to eat at. I suppose we should give some consideration to location or proximity to a major highway. Here are a few suggestions:

Downtown Area
Hula Hut's is a unique blend of Lake Austin scenery, atmosphere and great chow they call "polynesian tex-mex" Info - http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10208803/austin_tx/hula_hut.html

Shady Grove is a great little greasy spoon serving all your favorite comfort foods: burgers, chili-cheese dogs, great salads, tex-mex, the famous "hippie" vegiterian sandwich and more. Info - http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10210771/austin_tx/shady_grove.html

Iron Works is a very famous BBQ joint just off I-35 downtown. Info -
http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10202578/austin_tx/iron_works.html

Threadgill's may be famous for the music, but the food is great too, especially the Chicken Fried Steak. Info - http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10210768/austin_tx/threadgill_s_world_headquarters.html

Hut's Hamburgers could possibly be the best burgers in the galaxy. :D This is the essence of a down and dirty burger joint with "blue plate specials", great (el cheapo) prices and food that keeps the week-day lunch lines out the door. Very, very laid back. Info - http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/10208790/austin_tx/hut_s_hamburgers.html

That's five places, and not a bad one in the bunch. They are all centrally located, but I'd be happy to supply info for another area if y'all want. I don't live in Austin, but I worked there for 3.5 years and I've been a regular visitor to the Live Music Capital of the World all my life.

Perhaps an actual Austin local might like to suggest a spot or two...

rhythm_ace
03-17-2006, 02:01 PM
They all sound good, Texas Jon. Wonder if we have anybody with dietary considerations, like vegetarians etc. With a patio, Shady Grove would also allow us to admire our E's was we eat. :D

I'll devise a poll for the day's itinerary and change my signature.

texas jon we are gonna need your help, i checked reviews and what not on all the resturants but i am not sure which one. i know by the reviews that the last one has horrible parking situation. which one has the most parking and would maybe let us have a couple of extra parking spaces to pop the tops off our E's and check em out. im excited to see what you guys have done to your E's. they all sound great and i dig the fact that ill get a good drink at some of the places. which one will be good for a sat. afternoon. thanks tx jon for all your help.

Well, considering parking and all food type availablility, I guess I'm voting for Shady Grove. It has sort of an Element-type environment, friendly, hippie counter-culture thing working anyway...

So, who is actually IN for this weekend? I noticed that at least two are driving in FROM Houston, and I'll be driving TO Houston on Monday...how ironic.

I am a new owner in Houston...I have several vehicles and thought the Element would be a nice addition. It is plenty big on the inside and yet provides good gas mileage...My wife was not impressed when I told her but now is driving it (to shop etc) her other car is a BMW 330 conv. She thinks it is a fun car and with the manual transmission runs just fine. Also as an EX-P AWD it will be functional for my hunting trips to Iowa.
I have monitored the site for awhile after I decided to get one (had to be a 5-sp) and it looks like the Element is a pretty solid vehicle with some minor issues.
I look forward to seeing what others have done with their cars.

Wow, it's been almost 3 months since we met up in Austin! Looking at my last post in this thread, I mentioned camping...ha ha! In this heat? I don't think so.

Keep in mind we have a holiday weekend coming up so we have to plan carefully.

You know I would love to have the first ever "Element poker run"

Howdy all!

Depending on how the next get together fits in my schedule, I'd be in for sure. Work and church have been very, very, very busy lately and will continue to be for at least the next two to three months, plus we just moved down from the Hill Country into San Antonio.

Of course, those also both seem like a good excuse to take some time out to play, don't they:D ...

I'll take a bit more of a back-seat in planning this one due to the work schedule - just keep us all posted. I would suggest that we maybe push back the camping trip to the fall when temperatures are a bit more pleasant for such an activity (or all drive to Colorado, Yellowstone or some similar place. )
