: Gourmet Latte Camp Coffee:
Miss Ellie & Co. 03-03-2006, 01:22 PM Wolfgang Puck has a new product. Perfect for out door use especially if your camping. Gourmet Lattes in a self heating can. Hot in 5 mins. Stays hot for 1/2 hour and warm for an hour. Delicious!
How it works: Turn can upside down. Push in botton on top of can. Turn can back up right. Wait 5 mins. and Ole' ! Wonderful hot steaming latte!
Flavors: Rich Expresso, Rich Mocha, Rich Caramel, French Vanilla.
Next time you stagger out of your tent into the cold morning air you won't have to fuss around with brewing coffee or waiting for water to heat up for your nasty instant stuff.
Miss Ellie

magnEsium 03-03-2006, 07:11 PM Ohhhh... Maaahhhh... Gooodddd... I LOVE IT!! I NEED that! As the Guinness Guys would say- BRILLIANT!
Does anyone wanna go in with me and make the Endothermic Version with Beer on the top? :D
Genom 03-03-2006, 08:27 PM Now that is a pretty slick little item there. I'm not a coffee drinker, but the tea, cider, and hot chocolate sound pretty good.
I wonder if they'll release a self heating "Southern Hot Chocolate"...Hot chocolate with a shot of Southern Comfort...yummy.:)
outpost4 03-03-2006, 08:41 PM Hell of a lot better than "camp coffee", where you just mix up hot water and coffee grounds in a cup. Add a pinch of salt to help the grounds settle to the bottom and you have coffee...as long as you don't drink the bottom 1/4 of the cup. :|

Now that's a great idea!! Bailey's and Cream coffee, SoCo Coffee, Kahlua and coffee... haha, it would NEVER fly here in PA where the blue laws are still in effect. Still, I'd buy 'em if I had the chance.
I went out and got 2 cans yesterday. tried them skiing today. It works as advertised but there is a bit of aftertaste to the caramel one. I think it's the sugar substitute they use. they heat up nice and I will be trying them again.
they are, imho, mp.
Wally 03-05-2006, 06:43 PM Nifty!
Where did you get them - I have not seen them here in So. Cal. Are they in the Coffee section at the supermarket, or at camping/outdoor stores?

I found them at Albertsons in Marina Del Rey. In the coffee section. I'll be taking a few cans to the EOC rock climbing/camping meet at Joshua Tree the end of the month.

ethos 03-06-2006, 11:31 AM Great idea, that's one of those things we've all thought of as we are standing there watching the coffee brew early in morning on camping trips. None of us ever bothered to work on the invention. I've got tons of ideas for little camping inventions that I never bothered to try and follow up on. Glad someone has more initiative than I do.
kissya 03-06-2006, 01:18 PM :D Gonna have to try it ....love my caffeine.:D
yamone 03-06-2006, 01:37 PM How much are they

Between 4-5 dollars each. Kinda expensive but so hassle free and easy it's worth it. We always brew a pot of our own gourmet coffee when camping. We'll use the self heating stuff when we break camp and don't have the time to brew up a fresh pot of Joe. They are great for the road too!

"Dang if I drink anymore of this stuff I'll start wearing a Sombrero, walking a donkey and talking like Juan Valdez"
gibroni 03-06-2006, 04:02 PM Camp coffee is one of the joys of camping out! Firing up the ole' percolator and waiting makes it taste that much better. That and hobo pies.
I thought they were like $2.49 or something. I'd better pay better attention!

Green guy here...whats a hobo pie? is that like a smore dropped in the dirt?
jimtesla 03-19-2006, 06:07 PM Moorpark Albertsons has them on sale for 2 for 5 bucks
got a couple......have not tried them yet......will see....
Wally 03-19-2006, 06:12 PM I found them at a Ralph's in Simi for around $4. Got one of the Vanilla Latte's the try. It was alright, but not what I would normally make in the morning with my Coffee Mate Vanilla Creamer. However, in an emergency, it would be just the thing.
Tim Vance 03-20-2006, 12:18 AM ooohhhh that is just sssoooooo wrong!
But then again, I can't stand the taste of flavoured coffees, 'non-dairy creamer' or artificial sweetner....
To each his own, I guess, but I'll stick with the real thing....
jimtesla 03-20-2006, 07:33 AM I like the idea of the device being able to heat itself...thats why I had to get one..its a gadget in the food world.
I would also prefer regular coffee...and then add what ever you want...
I hope they have these coming...along with other products like soup.. etc
JPH102900 03-20-2006, 07:47 AM Green guy here...whats a hobo pie? is that like a smore dropped in the dirt?
Hobo pies are when you take two pices of bread with butter on the out-side sides. You put them in a thing that looks like two iron squares on two sticks and then put whatever filling you want in the middle of the pieces of bread. You close the two iron pieces together and hold it in the fire to cook. When it comes out of the pie maker, the bread is hot and crunchy and whatever you put inside is all cooked.
I would reccommend using cherry or apple pie filling, pizza sauce and toppings with cheese, grilled cheese, hamburger, the list goes on and on and on. Pretty much whatever would taste good between two pieces of bread.

Sounds like a George Foreman grill comercial...
JPH102900 03-20-2006, 08:03 AM Maybe I should leave accounting and go into sales, huh?
InMyOwnElement 03-22-2006, 11:49 AM I love this stuff, works great for camping, I was at sams club last week and seen that they also have hot chocolate too!

Only if your sons names are George, George, George and George Jr.
magnEsium 03-29-2006, 01:42 PM A friend brought be a couple of these from Trader Joes in CA. The ones I had were a little too sweet for my taste, but otherwise it's fun to make them do their thing (what can I say, I'm easily amused).
I actually had a "misfire" with the second one- I was demonstrating the magic of the exothermic reaction to a colleague. He depressed the button kinda half-assed. Since he didn't pierce the foil completely, only about 1/2 of the water went into the cartridge... very slowly. After about 5 seconds, when I still saw the green stuff in the botton, I showed him how a Real Man presses buttons. Cuz I'm Macho like that. Anyways, the beverage didn't get very hot. In fact it was just luke-warm.
Moral of the story- make sure you press the button all the way in, or you'll end up with cold coffee.
