hi,
I have got a question: not only one :-))

is there any E in Germany ?
and if YES, what you have to do to get it on German papers ?

I think about an E, it is an E / US from 2003, but first I want to know what I have to change before buying one

do you have any information about the cost of the changes ?
about the tax ?
about the insurance ?
do you have a paper from Honda for the front lights because there is no e-number in ?

there are many questions, hope to get answers

Frank, welcome to the EOC. This should actually help you. Head on over to the EOC Frappr! (http://www.frappr.com/elementownersclub) site and move the map to Europe and you'll see two people from Germany are registered there. I would try sending them an email and asking them how they went about buying their Elements. :)

Hope you can get your Element and start posting about everything you're doing with it in Europe.

There are a few of us in Germany, but all Elements I know of are associated with the U.S. Gov't and don't have to comply with EU rules for vehicle standards (NATO Status of Forces Agreement).

Probably the best source for information is the TÜV to get details of the "type-approval" for imported US automobiles.

http://www.tuev-sued.de/vehicle_tuev/services/individual_type_approval

... with further information (in German language) for importing
http://www.tuev-sued.de/auto_tuev/infos_rund_um_ihr_fahrzeug/import_von_fahrzeugen

Hope this helps.

I just bought an Element here in Germany through the Auto Exchange Car dealership. They conduct business in selling US Spec vehicles to US and NATO forces. I am not sure if this applies to you. If not, perhaps contacting Honda of Europe will help. What city are you in? If you are German, I know that US Citizens sell US Spec Cars to Germans all the time. I think that the Zoll is the only reall issue with clearance. Contact the Zollamt and the TUV near you for more info.

Welcome to the EOC Melanie and Christian... Good to see there are more and more Elements making their way across to Germany and the rest of Europe.

If I translated properly, you have had your Element since December and just got it certified in January? What can you tell us about it? Is it s 2005? Was it imported from Canada?

Hi Larry,

our E is from America I guess. We felt in love with the E on our vacation in 2005 – visiting my family in RI. We tried to get an E here in Germany but the dealership told us that there is no chance because there is no market for such a car in Germany.

We checked the military market near Rammstein air base and found a nice blue 2003 E. Its an pre-owned DX and it has had an American Forces in Germany registration. We bought the car from one of these militarymart dealerships. The car is in great shape after 30.000 miles feels like new.

First we had to make a customs declaration and pay VAT – because the car has had no proper registration….… We have had to do some changes for the inspection here in Hamburg and they wanted to the see original sales documents. So, we brought the E to an us-car-specialist near Hamburg and after a week and a nice couple bucks we had the registration – since than we can’t get the smile out of our faces…

By the way – are there any E-meetings near NY, CT, RI or MA late summer/fall?

Cheers
Melanie and Christian

Yes, we have quite a few E meets all throughout the year. If you scroll up and check the Northeast Owners Forum you'll see some of the plans. If you're going to be in the US over the summer, will you be here in July? We're having our second annual National Meet, this year it is in St Louis. Last year we toured the Honda Factory where they make the Element and Civic in Ohio.

Just let us know when you'll be here and we can put something together.

Glad you're enjoying your Element there. :)

EuropE --
We picked-up RubE, our '06 TRP, at Transcar earlier today. It took her 7 weeks to cross the pond. She proudly wears her classy "Euro" license plates.
Our Saint Bernards finally have transportation to visit the nearby dog run.
Here's a pre-shipping picture. I'll update when she has a bath and wax. :D

Now I hope the way to my German Licence Plates isn't far away.

Moin zuammen,
Ich habe gerade das Gutachten für den Motor K42A4 aus meinem 2005er Element erhalten. Der Motor entspricht Euro 4 :D :D
Nun hoffe ich, dass ich bald die Kennzeichen anschrauben kann.

Hi Greg, I'm living in Hensetdt-Ulzburg, that's in the north of Hamburg.
The biggest problem I have, that the E is converted for wheelchair access. The floor is dropped for 20 cm and on the passanger side is a folded ramp. So the passanger side is not like the original E. Becuase of this, I have to made a force test for 5000 Euro !!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's worst. In the states the manufacture has made several crash test, but that's not interresting for the German TÜV.
If you want, you can have a look on http://www.freedommotors.com/xwav/XWav_Interior.htm

tschuss,

Kerri :-D

Hi Frank,

I just brought an Element into Denmark..

One thing you might need is a data sheet. Explains the weight, the km/l, the decibel level of the car, and things like that...

I should have one in a few days, signed by a Honda Rep, it was required for me to register the car here (altough that isn't complete yet!!)

I can forward a copy if you need it.

Hast du ein Element schon gekauft?

I would have to agree and say that the majority of E's you see in Germany (if not Europe) are owned by US military, myself included... I have driven it all over europe, and constantly get funny looks, or looks of admiration. If you can make a european look at your car funny, you know your car is pretty unique looking... it'd be like driving a smart car in the states...

if you are still looking for an E, i'm moving back to the states in September and would be willing to sell mine... it's a 2003 EX 2WD Manual, with about 85K miles... only want to sell mine because i want to get a 4WD when i return to the states...
