Does anyone on this forum have one of these "Kuston Krates?" (www.kustomkrates.com (http://www.kustomkrates.com)) As you can see, this example on the company's web page is of an Element. The crates look very cool and they do all sort of neat setups. I only need one crate so am thinking the other side could be for storage that would also be useful for camping.

I imagine they would keep the kids in line on long trips...

I've seen those before, but I was thinking that they would not be very versitle in the need to reconfigure the inside layout of your E. I am planning to build something that would serve the same purpose as those but be more versitle for every day, camping, hiking, long trips, or whatever you use your E for. If I can ever get some time off work I'll build it and upload some images for everyone.

Ethos -- after posting this I looked at how much they cost.

You ought to go into the business!

OMG: over 2k!!!? That's crazy.

As long as we're talking about it, what do you need room for every day, or when you go camping, hiking, outdoors, whatever. In my design I'm trying to plan for almost everything I'd need in any situation. I've already gotten all my stuff out of my basement/closet to see exactly how much space would be needed for what.

I'd like to have a secure drawer that would hold the gadgets and Gidget stuff: flashlights, headlamps, GPS, shortwave (Grundig Yachtboy), camera, binoculars, walkie-talkies, Leatherman, hiking poles, Gidget's stuff (brush, comb, poop bags, extra leash & collar, water bottle). And some items such as energy bars.

$2K? Yeah that's a lot.

I've seen places that have boxes designed for pickups. Yeah, there are the ones that span left ro right, but they also make some that fit between the fender well and the rear of the cab, or between the fenderwell and the tailgate.

Those aren't nearly as bad (price wise) but still on the expensive side in my mind. I'm fabricating mine out of wood. I think it'll look better, you can do more with it and for the sake of my pocketbook. Plus it won't be as heavy as a metal box.

I was thinking the same thing - and all the extra cargo space that would open up by taking out the rear seats.

Mmmmm...

Nicely solves the suicide door/tight parking space problem too.
