This is not for the element, but I didn't want to put it in Off Topic because it does apply to DIY.
I have a 93 accord and I am going to be replacing the speakers (again) this summer. Currently they are 6.5 in all four corners. I already plan on putting tweeter on the pillars and changing the front speakers with alpines. I also want to do the back deck but I don't want to use 6.5's I would rather use 6X9's but the hole is obviously not big enough. How can I make it bigger? I don't have any really high tech tools or anything.

Before worrying about cutting the 6x9 opening through the metal, open the trunk and look at the underside of the rear shelf. The 6x9 holes might already be there. I don't know about newer cars but for many years since 6x9 was the choice for the rear shelf they all came from the factory precut. All you needed to do was cut out the 1/8" shelf board that was blocking the opening.
If the above is the case, just cut the opening using a small hand saw. Cut it from inside the trunk making sure that the blade can't scratch the rear window or the rear refroster.
If you need to cut through the metal because a 6x9 opening doesn't exist and you don't have tools... have them professionally installed. You will need a jig saw with metal blades or a sawzall...

How much would a sawzall cost?

How much would a sawzall cost?
A real Milwaukee Sawzall run ~$100-300 depending on the model. Before buying one see if your rear shelf has the 6x9 openings already.
Check eBay for better pricing on the Sawzall. Don't get a copy/knock-off... get only a Milwaukee if you really get it. It is only of my favorite and most versatile tools I own.

would it be possible to do this with a hand saw with a metal blade? I know that the cut won't be as clean and it will take longer but it would save some $$.

Have you checked the rear shelf from inside the trunk yet? You might not even have to cut metal at all. It might only be 1/4" board... go check.
A hand saw would be very difficult to use to cut the 6x9 hole in metal. Either a scroll saw (jig saw) or sawzall... jig saw it probably the better of the two depending on how much room you have to move the saw.

The application guide says 6 1/2" speakers in the rear deck of a '93 Accord. Do check, though.
A saws-all woud be the wrong tool to use. Way overkill. A jig saw with a metal cutting blade, maybe. My bet is you won't be able to fit 6x9 in there anyway. There is a lot of bracing and torsion bars in the rear decks of Accords. I certainly don't remember a '93, but I'd be willing to bet you'll be stuck with 6 1/2" speakers. At the best, it would be a hack job to put anything else in.
Why do you want to do this? I assume more bass. If that's the case, invest $250 in an el cheapo !0" sub in a box with a bogus amp. If you prowl the pawn shops and newspaper ads, you could probably do if for used for half that price. A $150 used sub/amp combo in the trunk of your Accord will stomp 6x9s in the rear deck for bass and you won't trash your car in the process.
One of those rules of thumb to live by is install what fits.

The sub would be nice (as I did want more bass) but I don't want to take the headunit out to hook up the amp and sub and go through the firewall to hook the amp to the battery. I also don't want to pay someone else to do it either. I guess I'll just stick with 2 nice sets of 6.5's. You're right outpost, there are too many torsion bars and stuff back there, I don't even have to go look, I can remember from the last time I did my speakers. Just didn't think of it.

Hey I could always use the redneck approach and get some 6X9 boxes from Wally and put them on my back deck! Oh wait! Its not a cavalier!:D

Plus do you really want to spring for the required accessory, a decal of Calvin peeing on a Ford logo to put on the rear window? :D

Oh and since it's a honda, I would need the type r badge and the light-up muffler tip (or I could just use a foldgers can)

Or you can just go down to the local tool rental joint in your area. In this area they charge 20$ a day to rent a jig saw, and they throw in a package of blades.
It beats paying 70. To 120.$ for something you may not use for another year.
