: Jeep Compass- Ugly Redefined
magnEsium 03-21-2006, 01:19 PM May your E never be called ugly again- check out this hideous beast. It reminds me of the old Eagle (at least the Eagle was functional until it broke). Even the Aztek looks good in comparison!

kissya 03-21-2006, 01:22 PM The Aztek is ugly...
outpost4 03-21-2006, 01:28 PM I went to the 360 degree view on their website.
Funny, it even looks like an Aztek from the rear. :-P
I don't mind the front, but from the side, it has a rear quarter panel straight from a Gremlin. What were they thinking? :?
Now if they had taken their styling clues for the grill from an Edsel, we'd have three of a kind. :D

maybe i should turn on javascript for jeep.com.
or not.
ramblerdan 03-21-2006, 01:34 PM Eh, looks like a Jeep to me. I actually liked my Gremlins, but that triangular "sail panel" was definitely a mistake. Apparently one that Chrysler hasn't learned from.
I love how the 360d view lets you flip it upside down.
Yes, Javascript is the devil's work.
The interior looks vaguely familiar...
outpost4 03-21-2006, 01:49 PM I actually liked my Gremlins
Gremlins? PLURAL !?!
In shock, I went to ramblerdan's AMC page, and yes, he did own two Gremlins. Here's one:
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-1/940070/grem250238.gif
1971 Gremlin, 232, three-speed manual, very basic.
This is the best photo I have of Frog, my first car. It was taken in 1980, during my first U-joint job (Note the extent of my tool collection, in the green backpack). Yes, the driver’s seat did beep the horn when pushed forward to let a passenger into the back seat, and the shifter mechanism was crap, but Frog was still a great little vehicle. It took me all around Connecticut, Colorado and New York state, taught me how to work on cars, and started me on my AMC odyssey. (Thanks, Noreen.)
I guess we all have skeletons in our closets.
;-) :-P
bacchus1310 03-21-2006, 02:26 PM I dont like the huge fender flares. Looks goofy. Like their trying to make it look futurestic.
InSaNeBoY 03-21-2006, 02:56 PM It's basically a re-skinned and optioned up dodge caliber
not that bad a car for the price, really. concidering one as our second car for me to commute to work in.
http://www.dodge.com/caliber/index.html
rhythm_ace 03-21-2006, 02:57 PM The head-on look is funky. The fenders remind me of an Xterra. I can take it or leave it, I guess.
MikeQBF 03-21-2006, 03:10 PM Wow, what a slow site. That's what happens when the designers stop talking to the techies.
Anyway, not an attractive vehicle. I can see what they're trying to do, It's something more car-like for the crossover market since they had nothing that wasn't a "true" SUV, with the SUV market taking on the chin with gas prices and all. So I guess they're going after the Murano/FX and the Touareg.
Nice try, but the big toothy grill doesn't work on a car.
Genom 03-21-2006, 03:18 PM The fenders look a little like the lump on this boxer's head.
gladestrider 03-21-2006, 03:37 PM this is what shows up when i click the link
Don't worry; thats pretty much what the Compass looks like anyway...
God, what an awful design. People are going to be losing jobs over this one, I bet.
likecoiledsteel 03-21-2006, 03:43 PM Looks like the AMC Pacer on steroids. Damn its ugly, not to mention that great JEEP reliability to go with it. I pity the fool that gets this heep.
Steel
Oh yeah, buy American.
Ernie 03-21-2006, 06:25 PM What were they thinking (Jeep Compass)? What void in the Wrangler/Liberty/Grand Cherokee/Commander line does it fill?
We'll see. My first car was a Jeep Wrangler, so I have a special place for Jeep. B-t-w, the 2007 Wrangler looks the same? Where's the redesign? Maybe they're bringing the interior into the modern world.
Looked at a Dodge Caliber the same day as I bought by Element. If the dealership had more to look at and could have gotten the sooner, I may have considered it - especially since some of the extras I wanted would have brought me to the same price as the EX-P that I eventually bought... and it came in SOP ... and yellow too!
I am happy with my TM EX-P and glad I made the purchase. Glad to be in the community too.
jdiane 03-21-2006, 06:26 PM it looks like they put a jeep commander in a car crusher. all four corners look squished in-- like a bunch of men said "hmm women have curves, women must like curves on cars".... the whole thing is out of proportion...
ADAMLSTL 03-21-2006, 06:36 PM The Aztek is ugly...
True true..
That Jeep looks kinna like the Hundai suv?
ethos 03-21-2006, 06:43 PM I think jeep tries way to hard, I agree the new design looks like they just tried to design the "jeep of the future."
I actually saw a Dodge Caliber on the road the other day (never have before) and I gotta' say I didn't like it. It looked just like the Chevy Malibu hatchback, until the god awful rear end.
ApriliaGuy 03-21-2006, 08:00 PM ......dodge caliber
not that bad a car for the price, really.....
Yeah, the Caliber looks pretty good in person.....much better than that Jeep (destined to be a bigger flop than the Commander ?! )
Chrysler seems to be pricing them realistically in the first place, instead of offering $3000 rebates.
I'd consider buying one.....if it weren't a Dodge! :D
