Sheniferous 03-27-2006, 12:39 AM I had a great time! I did catch some flak from my 2 non-Element friends who came with me about going to some car club meetup, but whatever... I had fun and so did they!
Anyway, here are some pictures from the meet... you can find the rest here:

We're so bummed that we bailed on Saturday night but the wind was too much for me to handle. I was cold, too, and didn't have a coat. Brrrr. I'll be better prepared next time, I promise!
It was GREAT to meet everyone!
Thanks again to Box4Rox for inviting us to the group sites and the awesome climbing school!

ADAMLSTL 03-27-2006, 11:30 PM I had a great time! I did catch some flak from my 2 non-Element friends who came with me about going to some car club meetup, but whatever... I had fun and so did they!
Anyway, here are some pictures from the meet...
Very cool Lin-E-up!
Ferrum 03-27-2006, 11:52 PM Toaster convention ... Scion meet ...
They make fun of us because they are jealous and/or afraid of us.
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 12:20 AM Climbing rock at J tree ...
Some people made it look easy, like a walk in the park.
Others went the way of the spider.
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 12:21 AM Yet others chose to toe the line or finger the cracks, depending on which appendage was free.
DJEMBE 03-28-2006, 12:23 AM Did anyone else notice those four guys standing around in the desert across the road about 200 yards to the north of us when we left on Sunday? They were just gazing off into the distance and not talking. I'm pretty sure that was U2. Man, that Bono still hasn't found what he's looking for. They musta been there all night in that wind, too! Rock stars...
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 12:46 AM The winds ripped 2 canopies/shelters, and downed 2 others on Sat.
Boxer managed to get his tent up in the cold evening, amidst the strongest gusts.
After Sat night, no mere rock was going to stand in Boxer's way.
The next morning, he HEEed and HAWed and even squeaked at one point.
His children lost interest and he lost his way ...
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 12:52 AM ..but the rock would not win on this day.
Boxer: I'm the King of the World! Now get me down and out of these straps!
Sorry, I took liberties with some of my descriptions.
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 01:37 AM When rock climbing you want your belayer to have steady hands, a steady voice and unwavering gaze (think Clint Eastwood). Basically you want them to be solid, like a rock. The worst thing to hear when you are climbing is the sound of your belayer answering his cell phone.
A big thank you to Mike for organizing this and instructing us. Only after I got down from my 2nd climb did I realise what a big risk this was. Thank you also to Larry and Thomas, friends of Mike who helped with belay duty. Like I said, your calm demeanors mattered when it mattered most. I'm only sorry that we were not succesfull in getting you to like our vehicles.
Ferrum 03-28-2006, 02:32 AM OK Sheniferous don't ban me for posting all these photos. You can take down the picture of me, my vehicle (Ferrum) or my bird (Bob), but I think people will enjoy seeing most of the photos I posted, right?
I have to post these great pictures of Carol and her huskie mix, Vickie, presiding over campsite 5. I have another good one of Obie and a cowboy in his PJs. I only wished I had taken photos of everydog and everyone who was there.
Time was short and cut even shorter by beastly traffic. The elements were harsh on us Element owners. Sat night was like a nightmare of extreme cold, the wind slapping us around, and conversations of crazy stalkers. I nodded of by the campfire and would wake alternately to sparks/embers in my face and suffocating smoke.
What do you say we try it again this weekend? Only thing I would do different is to avoid being caught in traffic. Has anyone posted plans on how to add rotor and blades to the E to make it fly?
bacchus1310 03-28-2006, 06:22 AM I enjoyed looking at them all. Looks like it was a great time. :D
Dom.five 03-28-2006, 07:42 AM Wow
Looks like a fab time. Thanks for the Photos, wish I had been with you.
That's one rock that won't fit in the Box!:D
DCbox 03-28-2006, 09:06 AM Great Photos!
Great photo's!! Looks like everyone had a good time.
lifeizgood 03-28-2006, 11:44 AM Great pics, everyone! Thanks for sharing. :D
Sheniferous 03-28-2006, 11:51 AM Hey guys, if you were trying to download and save the images from my Flickr page and weren't able to, try again now. I had my permissions set of private but I changed that.
When you click on a photo on my flickr album, right above the upper left of the picture there's a button that says "all sizes". Click that and you can download the full res versions of the pictures!
Sheniferous 03-28-2006, 01:40 PM Oh... and those who didn't show up really did miss a great trip... just look at all the stars!

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-28-2006, 03:35 PM Mere words cannot describe the great time we had at Joshua Tree in the company of E peeps. What a crew!
Saturday night winds we're a bit much as it collapsed our new tent while we were in it, forcing us to bail out into our Element for a late candlelight dinner, where we sipped champagne and nodded off into dreamland while listening to XM. Very nice.
Sunday morning our brand new tent looked like giant pretzel that had gotten run over by a steam roller but it survived unscathed so we figured we got a pretty damn good tent.
Saturday during the day a Church Van stops in front of the pits at the base of the rocks at Element Central claiming that we were in their Group Camp site. Thier "go to guy", some knuckle head who's wearing a T-Shirt with a crucifix crown of thorns logo plastered on the front of it says they got reservations here and we gotta move out! So Glenn looks at this guy's reservations and sees thats it's for the month of "June" and this is still March. "Hey, your a little bit early huh? No problem if you don't mind waiting a bit... like 60 days!"
Needless to say Mr. Church Guy leaves mumbling and talking under his breath to himself. guess he was surprised to find that not everyone is as dumb as he is. What a world.
So we got a taste of what it's like to hang with the big dogs and wonderful peeps in the EOC. I can tell any EOC member from where ever it is you might be from, that Element owners are every bit as wonderful as the vehicles that they drive, and then some! So the next time a EOC outing is happening.. for god's sake people... attend the thing!!!
You will have a really, really good time. Guaranteed!
Miss Ellie

Melissa -
Your photos are great - it was very nice to meet you. :)
Here's what I got for the "EOC Dogs" that attended . . . Vickie, Ernie, Middy (I think that was the name . . . ?) and Obi. I didn't get an Ernie pic . . . hopefully someone else will post it.
All the names end with the "E" sound . . . go figure
Middy came all the way from Phoenix; same place Obi was hatched (small world) . . . Today is Obi's 1 year B-Day.

Miss Ellie & Co. 03-28-2006, 05:19 PM Did anyone else notice those four guys standing around in the desert across the road about 200 yards to the north of us when we left on Sunday? They were just gazing off into the distance and not talking. I'm pretty sure that was U2. Man, that Bono still hasn't found what he's looking for. They musta been there all night in that wind, too! Rock stars...
Hey Ric, Ha Ha Ha. I think I seen them there too! U2 has always been rock historians of sorts. Here's probably the main reason U2 went to Joshua Tree and named thier album after it....
Did you know that Joshua Tree has more rock stars than just U2 hanging off it's collective limbs? Gram Parsons who fronted the 60's first real country rock band The Flying Burrito Bros. made it famous when he died of a drug overdose at the Joshua Tree Inn on Sept.19, 1973 at the age of 26.
Gram had said that when he died he wanted to be set on fire and buried at Joshua Tree where he loved to hang out and write songs. Where after his Road Mgr. Phil Kaufman and a friend got very intoxicated and borrowed a broken down hearse and hijacked Gram's body from LAX with some forged paper work. They returned to Joshua Tree stopping only for more beer and a gallon of gasoline. Then they poured the gas into his coffin and set it on fire only to be arrested later for buring a coffin. There were no laws on the books for burning a corpse at the time. Gram's charred body now resides in a small cemetary in New Orleans.
Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones was a good friend of Gram's too and he would hang at Joshua Tree and get zoned out with Gram and write songs together. The Stone's epic "Exile on Main Street" is heavily influenced by Gram Parsons and the song Country Honk is a tribute to him. So is the Byrd's country influenced "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" album which Gram Parsons produced and played on. Janis Joplin also loved hanging out at Joshua Tree.
Jim Morrison and the Doors use to pracitcally live there. Eating LSD and writting songs. The Eagles were also very fond of Joshua Tree.
America's "Horse with No Name" was inspired by Joshua Tree. U2's classic
"Streets Have No Name" (see the simarlarity?) from thier Joshua Tree album in my opinion is all about Gram. I don't know that as a fact but I do believe it to be so. Next time I bump into Bono I will ask him about it. LOL!
Pretty cool info huh?
Miss Ellie / Gene
Sheniferous 03-28-2006, 06:06 PM Thanks for the action shot Box4Rox!!
Honda should've come out and had a good time with us as they watch their E getting used for what it was designed for... even if they were off their target demographic by a tad!
Honda! If you're reading this... you should come to our next meetup (only 5 minutes away from your corporate office) and give us free swag. I love swag!
