I'm thinking about get an E, but I got auto insurance quotes around $230/month for a 06 4x4 stick. It seems high, my 04 RX8 is $150/month. How much are you guys (single) paying?

that seems really high, but it depends on so many different things (age, zip, record). you should go to one of the insurance websites and compare.

fwiw, down here in the OC i pay $750/year

It's a long shot, but are any of your family members in the military? We were able to join USAA because DH's grandmother was a nurse in WWII, and thus an officer. USAA has good rates because they don't have commissioned agents and they have restricted membership.

Either way It seems like LA is an expensive place to get insurance.

$750/6 months is not bad. I thought it was going to be under $100/month for E. After all, RX8 is a sports coupe and it's less than $150/month (quotes were based on the same conditions as RX8 ). Some told me it has to do with 4x4 feature and it's a honda which is very popular with car thieves.

I'm paying about 480 every 6 months. I have some friends that are moving to San Diego and their insurance is going through the roof. Something outrageous like $2000 for 6 months.

When I first came to California I was amazed at the quotes for car insurance. I'm glad I shopped around and asked questions. Considering I had lived in other citties (Chicago the suburbs, Silver Springs, Md, Dallas, Ft Lauderdale, Paris France, and Brussls, Belgum), I think the California insurance companies are just sticking to us just because we consumers have never challenged them en mass.

They need to drive ELEMENTs and to use their USAA privilege.
Here in San Diego, mine is going to be $628/year. Of course, I have another vehicle (multi-car discount), I'm female, and over 30. You know - like, OLD.

May be it is because E is an SUV, they cost more to insure? ( I've never owned SUV before.) $700/6 months is kinda high, consider it is a $20K Honda. Don't get me wrong, I dig the car. But my current car is a $36K Mazda sports coupe and I live in "high risk area" (insurance BS), I'm was paying $780.00/6 months before CA outlawed the persistance insurance discount. Someone is making a killing on insurance!

OMG! Is that why our insurance went up? It took us years to qualify for the persistence discount and now it is GONE?!

Yeah, it went into effect this year. Mind went up about 10%, it totally sucks. But the agent told me the insurance industry is trying to put this issue on the next election. Hey those guys are actually working for us for once.

I have 4 vehicles and 2 are full coverage. The E and my Dodge diesel. Others are a Fire truck and another dodge. Around $940 a year. Can't beat that. Wawanesa. and 43.

That's amazing price. What part of LA do you live? I live in 900 zip code zone (zip code starts 900xx), it's a high risk area according to insurance company.

I live East of LA (Pomona/Diamond Bar area) and I pay about $750/yr through AAA to insure my 2006 EX-P . I am over 25, with a clean driving record, and a multi-car discount so that probably had a factor in it, too...

If you're looking for cheap, I've heard great things about Wawanesa through a few of my friends who are insured through them....

Good luck.

When I first moved to SoCal and changed the insurance on my Malibu, I was living in Ontario. The agent told me I was lucky because I was just outside of a circle around LA that had the highest rates. I also remember a news report that ranked intersections in LA as to the rates of insurance. There were quite a few intersections where the uninsured rate was over 80%! That scares the crap out of me and is one of the reasons I just don't go into LA very much. I have my '05 Element, an '04 Ion Redline, an '01 Saturn SC2, and now a '00 Mustang GT convertible. I'm 40 with a clean record, and my partner is 26 with a clean record. For all 4 cars in Riverside with full coverage on each (no rental reimbursement), we're paying $200.00/month with Geico. Before we switched to Geico, I was paying $120.00/month with Metropolitan (twice what it was before I moved to Cali), and my partner was paying $170.00/month with ESurance, and that was without the SC and the GT, so we are saving a bundle!
