: Long Island meetings?
The One Armed Violinist 03-31-2006, 03:29 PM Two questions, as I'm relatively new to the Element community:
1) What does one exactly "do" at a Element meeting?
2) Are they indoor or outdoor events?
#2 might seem obvioulsy outdoor, but that would limit the times of year for participation.
and I guess lastly, 3) are there going to be any Long Island meetings? I realize Long Islanders are generally unfriendly, especially towards neighbors, but could the power of the Element create an exception??
Genom 03-31-2006, 05:43 PM Yes, even us seemingly unfriendly Long Islanders have E meetings.
The general idea is to meet somewhere like a restaurant or shopping center, check out each other's Elements in and out, then either sit down for something to eat or to do some shopping together.
The meets are really an excuse to get out, show off our E's, put a face with the screen name, get something to eat and so on...
Its been a little while since we've had a meet here on the island. Where are you located and do you know of some good place where we all might be able to meet up on a Saturday or Sunday? We've had meetings at Hooters near the Nassau Colisseum in the past and at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead just to name a few.
ramblerdan 03-31-2006, 07:19 PM How about the monument lot at Jones Beach?
The One Armed Violinist 03-31-2006, 07:36 PM Well, as far as a place to meet, my initial thought was Effin Gruven in Bellmore, as it has a big parking lot (train station) across the street, and serves some pretty awesome beers. But then again, maybe some of the club members are underage, and maybe some of them are non-drinkers/recovering, and of course there's always the DWi fear, so I'm not sure how high people would be on the bar idea.
That said, I think it'd be a fun place to tilt a few and talk E. Especially to a newbie like myself.
spdrcr5 03-31-2006, 08:21 PM As James said we have had a few LI Meets and do plan on more this year. Since you mentioned Bellmore, is that where you live? I'm in Long Beach.
As for meeting at a bar and worrying about younger Element owners, not concerned with that at all.
we'll put something together for April or May.
Genom 03-31-2006, 08:31 PM I'll be there to represent Rocky Point.:)
Am I the only active member here that lives as far east on the island as I do?:?
The One Armed Violinist 03-31-2006, 08:32 PM Actually, I live in Suffolk but work in Oceanside, so I passed the place every day for YEARS before I decided to stop in. They've really not been able to keep me out since!
Well, at least before the kid. Now it's all a lot slower. Cars included!
spdrcr5 03-31-2006, 08:58 PM I live in Long Beach and work in Melville.
The One Armed Violinist 04-02-2006, 07:43 PM Hmmm...not a lot of responses to the Long Island meeting concept...save for the strong pimp hand of Rocky Point! There was a big old bar out there, looked like it was someone's house, that a friend's band of mine used to play. I forget the name, but I remember it being oddly shaped, yet fun.
Anyway, where are the rest of our "friendly" long islanders?
Genom 04-02-2006, 10:03 PM There really aren't many of us here on the forum from Long Island...but we do get together on occasion.
Don't worry about it though, in addition to the small meets we have here on LI, I'll be putting together a meet in southern New Jersey sometime this Summer as I had helped to do last year. (The Wildwood meet 8-20-05)
Its only a four hour ride.
Americonium 04-03-2006, 09:31 PM Why not a camping trip? There's a campground out east near Riverhead. Wildwood? I think. Anyway, that might be nice. However, my schedule only allows for one real weekend a month, so I would probably be the first to back out.
Parking lot get together, not a bad idea, as long as it's in the daytime.
Either way, we're Long Islanders, so, go 'eff yuhselves.:D
Joey Sugar 04-08-2006, 10:35 AM Im down for a Long Island Meeting,,,
spdrcr5 04-08-2006, 10:44 AM Ok, either next saturday or the following Saturday I'll be posting something to do in the Hicksville area, near Cantiague Park. Don't have a time yet, but it will be something nobody who owns an Element has yet done with an Element. :D It could be fun, plus I'll have some stuff to show everyone...
I will be able to release more information next week when things are confirmed.
Genom 04-08-2006, 09:02 PM Well since I know very little about the area around Cantiague park...you've got me mystified as to what you've got planned...cool.
Seeing as I'm getting myself back into mountain biking, maybe we can meet up at a trail for a day of riding. Yes I'm quite a sight to see on the trail as I wear motocross pants...I will not be caught dead wearing those cycling shorts or tights.

We can meet up one day to go riding... but I won't be able to for at least a month... still working myself back into shape.
The location is basically Wantagh Parkway and Old Country Road. If you think of something I told you a few weeks ago, you should know what I have planned. :)
Joey Sugar 04-09-2006, 11:11 PM Hey Americonium, I notice you live in Amityville, me too! right on Park ave. close to the School.:-D
The One Armed Violinist 04-11-2006, 07:57 PM JS,
I used to live on Park Ave in Amityville across from Dolphin Gym...I was actually there the night that guy was killed over there. Aside from that, what a great area. Too bad about the schools, though...
Joey Sugar 04-12-2006, 01:58 AM true about the schools,, I have an apartment here since I have been separated from my wife, my kids grew up in West Babylon, great schools, my youngest is 19. my oldest is 25, so I don't have to worry about schools any more.
Americonium 04-12-2006, 09:22 AM Joey, that's me you've seen driving in the neighborhood. You must go back to Honda and request a new color. We live far too close to own matching vehicles.....:-D
The One Armed Violinist 04-12-2006, 02:57 PM OK, so then I have no idea who I passed today in my kiwi Element as I cut down to County Line Beverage because you two have the same color elements??
As far as cycling...I'd have to be out. I don't have a bicycle! But i'm intrigued as to what the mystery activity is!
Joey Sugar 04-12-2006, 03:14 PM I was not on County Line today but a Kiwi did pass me on Broadway(110) right by the Gazebo and was in front of me on Park.
The One Armed Violinist 04-12-2006, 05:39 PM The Kiwi was me. I was headed to County Line Beverage for some evening refreshments as I installed my rear bumper trim.
Do you let the kids drive the E?
Joey Sugar 04-13-2006, 01:10 AM That Kiwi is sweeeet! love the color and it looked good going down the road.
thankfully my kids are all grown with their own jobs & cars and do not have to borrow my car anymore, when they were at that learner permit junior lic. age I always drove $hitboxes, 87 Volvo Wagon, 91 Caravan etc,,,one of the reasons that prompted me to buy this was it was only going to be used by me.
The One Armed Violinist 04-19-2006, 03:10 PM Where's the news about that meeting??
jurneez 04-19-2006, 03:26 PM spdrcr5
What's the mystery, I might have to venture into the city or get someone to drive me to find out what this all about??????
Something that has never been done with an E????
you've got me going now!!!!
jurn
spdrcr5 04-19-2006, 04:17 PM Still have not gotten what I need so I can organize this meet. Trying to find out the status and once I have all the info I will post the details about the Meet and location in a new thread.
Don't worry, I didn't forget about this. :D
Joey Sugar 05-03-2006, 09:35 AM what happened to the Long Island Meeting?
ramblerdan 05-03-2006, 09:47 AM Something tells me Larry doesn't yet have what he needs to organize the meet, is trying to get info, will post details when they're available, and hasn't forgotten about this.
