Well its been a while since I checked in. Sorry, but I am deployed.

Anyway I have a Pioneer AVIC D1 and did a custom dash peice for it and my roomate said it cracked real bad in the heat while I have been gone. Yeah it was my first crack at it...so what?

I have seen alot of you guys with double dins and wondered what kit you used. I am just going to order a new dash peice and use a kit if they have one.

I dont see a kit that is for the element with a double din. So if there is one how the hell did you make it work. I need details so I can order everything I need for when I get back. I have a few weeks of play time when I get home, and need to dedicate it to my poor vehicles.

THANKS!

My DDX7015 came with a trim ring from Crutchfield. I'm not sure if Kenwood included it or Crutchfield packaged it with it but it was there in the box. It's a beveled edge trim ring but I have seen others that are flat. I did have to tweak the way the unit sits in order to have the edge of the ring be flush with the radio surround panel. What I did was bend the mounting bracket's tabs to adjust the height and angle at which the unit sits. This allowed the trim ring to sit where it looked the best.

The trim ring you want with the Honda factory bezel is Metra 99-9999 (http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/99-9999.html). It's actually a double DIN installation kit although you obviously don't need the mounting pieces, just the trim ring. This (http://outpost42004lementtereonstall.fotopic.net/p21065600.html) is probably the best picture of the trim ring I have in my car. You'll need to cut the trim ring down in order to fit. It's too wide - top, bottom and on the sides. It still looks a little hokey to me. I have this nice Honda factory bezel and then this piece of black plastic. In fact, I was planning to do what you had done, use the factory shroud and add onto it the 3/8" I need to wrap the deck tightly. Thanks for being the jackrabbit, setting the pace. I won't use much bondo and instead mostly plastic, with the bondo only to smooth things out.

I'll probably do this over the next couple of weeks and post it in my E-xtraordinary Car Stereo Install thread if you want to see how my version comes out.

Where are you deployed to, hondaguru?

All I will say is its hot here. Other than that I cant.

I see what your saying about how yours looks. Maybe I will just redo mine and see what happnds.

Mine was done with liquid plastic and some filler, and it still cracked. So I may try again.

I really like empires. It looks professionally done.

I used the factory brackets off of the stock radio. My double din is recessed behind the factory trim bezel. And I used the trim ring that mine came with to fill the remaining space. It temporary but looks good enough for now. I wish I had the pics on my computer. I will try and get them up soon.
