Thinkin' about picking up some 18"er WedSport SA-70's with BFG g-Force 235/50's from Tirerack.

Anyone know if the site takes into account possible speedo issues? I'm wondering if they'll screw something up.

Also, does anyone know if an 8" wide rim/245 tire will rub in the well or fenders?

Thanks in advance

Brew,

I don't think TireRack will take speedo issues into account; you'll have to do that yourself. According to my chart (http://www.skidmore.edu/~pdwyer/e/tire_charts.htm), 235/50-18s are 2.15% smaller in diameter than stock, so your speedo would be off by that much.

Meanwhile, that size is 20mm (235-215), or about 3/4", wider than stock, or 3/8" on each side. Whether that will rub I couldn't say, but there has been lots of discussion on that topic here; do a search and you'll probably find a report from someone who has put 235s on.

BTW are they 235 or 245?

That's a type-o. They'll be 235's. Judging from your chart, I should go with a 55 series b/c it's -.38 smaller. Bummer...they only show one brand/model for that size... maybe I'll go with 17's.

So if the tire is smaller, the speedo will read fast, right?

Actually the speedo will finally be accurate:D , I checked mine ( 235/50zr18 ) with a gps unit at 65 mph and was surprised to see it was right on!!! The handling difference with 18" is fantastic and if you plan on only buying 4 tires and will rely on the factory spare, it will be a lot closer in size to the 235/50's, if you ever have a flat. Don't know about 8' wide, but my EVO's are 7 1/2" wide and no problems, Tim

Get the tire you like; 2% difference is nothing. Clearing the suspension gear is more important. I think someone (Paulj? MikeQBF?) posted a graphical stud of clearance with a wider-than-stock tire.

Alright, I did it, kinda of...

I was going to go with 18"s but decided to go with a more rugged look. I hate traffic and ain't scared to jump a curb or 3. I picked up a set of REVO 235/70/16's, that look great if I say so myself.

Rambler,

I went back to your chart and found out they're 3.96% larger than the stock rubbers. Is it safe to say I can multiply current speed reading X 1.0396 to get my actual speed?
