I have an aftermarket alarm that was installed by the dealer, but I'm told that most of these function the same way. My question is, how do I lock the car and open it again without setting off the alarm, using the key?

Here's what I 'm trying to do: I go running in the afternoons, and would like to throw the remote in the Element, and just take the key with me. However, when I unlock the doors with the key, the alarm goes off. Any sugestions?

you could simply lock the doors rather than arm the alarm :wink:

As long as you set the Honda alarm to active - that is, that you have to set it. I have set mine to passive - 20 seconds after all doors are closed, the alarm is set. If I forget to lock it when off shopping, it will protect itself.
