I just bought the wife a 06 civic ex. The radio says it is xm ready but the sales rep told me I would have to buy some sort of kit from them to get the xm to work. She REALLY wants the xm. Does anyone know what exactly it takes to get the xm working on her radio? Does she just need an antenea or is there more to it?
Thanks

You need more than just an antenna...You would need to buy the XM radio kit.

Or you can buy an aftermarket unit.

Wrong! I just got my wife a '06 Civic too and the radio says (((XM))) but when we pushed the button, nothing. It didn't have an antenna on it either. I made the inquiry only to find that it required the reciever and antenna which runs around $800.00. So instead of getting the grey metallic we opted for the NBP EX with Navi & (((XM))). Sweet! Anyway, the standard Civic's are (((XM))) ready but without the reciever and antenna kit, you're on the short end of the stick. One hat's why I told my wife to just get the EX with navi and that way if and when she decideds to trade it, it will have some selling power with that feature.

Well, you do have an AUX/PWR port on the dash. You could use that to allow the aftermarket unit to play through the car system and power it there as well. It's just like the Element when using the iPod. I know the dealer told me $800.00 and that didn't include the install. I told my wife to just opt for the NBP with Navi and be done with it. We had already signed the papers on the grey one and driven it home but still within that 3 day window to change your mind so we did. It's all good now.

But you can play yours the way I suggested or, you can spend some money and just get the receiver.
