: Insurer asks difference between keyless and security systems

I just bought an AWD EX and went to insure it. The insurance company said I had to have an alarm system that made an audible sound if someone tried to steal it in order to get the preferred rate. My question is: Will the keyless entry do that or do I have to go all the way up to the security system. I am, of course, hoping it is just the keyless entry as it appears that even I can install it. Not so for the security system. Would appreciate your input.

It is my understanding that the keyless entry is just exactly that....and that the security system needs the keyless entry to work, this is what I understand from reading H and A's site.

So if you need an audible sound you would have to go with an actual security system....shop around for an aftermarket one though....you can save some major coin!

the keyless entry is just that a remote access to your car, it will not make an audible sound if someone breaks into it and that is what the insurance co is looking for..

so you will need to add the security system to cover that request.

Don't forget that the Elelment comes with an immobilizer system - that should get you a preferred rate also (did me at least)

I agree with Orangee. I got the maximum discount (20%) for having the "key with the electronics stuff" according to my insurance rep.

nonsense - the door will chime as they enter. Seriously though, you ought to at least get credit for the immobilizer, we did too.
