: Why doesn't HandA ship to Canada?
(this forum does say that someone from HandA is answering)
What's the problem with shipping to Canada? You get a card number which can be verified, buyer pays shipping..... so WTF? HandA advertises globally by internet and then goes all primadonna on where they'll ship.... .
You only have to look at the roster on this board to know there is a bunch of Canadian Elements out there.
Hooknladder 05-06-2006, 09:40 AM Mutt, chill out, there are lots of reasons that companies don't or can't ship to Canada. Duty and Tax are a big one, paperwork, supplier agreements, yadda, yadda. I agree that we get the shaft in Canada from our own suppliers with the prices we have to pay. Especially on after market parts. I saved much $$ having chrome parts for my motorcycle shipped to friends in the States and later pick them up.
If you do get parts shipped directly to Canada, savings quickly evaporate with tax, gst, duty and watch out for UPS's outrageous brokerage fees.
I myself will be ordering parts and having them shipped to NC when I will be there in the fall for vacation, I'll put everthing on and drive back a happy camper with more $$ in my pocket.

Works if you have US contacts and a US shipping address and not if you don't.
I don't have this problem with computer stuff and with suppliers of other stuff. I order from US sources all the time so I am well aware of the procedure.
All of which still begs the issue of a Canadian source.
Hooknladder 05-06-2006, 10:08 AM Perhaps HandA can advise.
I've had the same experiences as yourself with ordering different items. Some companies ship here, some don't. Maybe a Canadian internet auto parts business would do well to start up, because the dealers sure don't have any competition with their pricing
Just for example, roof racks from the dealer here are $500 taxes in. not installed
HandA roof racks roughly $230 Canadian, plus shipping.
Perhaps a Canadian dealer can explain the difference? Exchange of currency is no longer a good excuse.
Hooknladder 05-06-2006, 10:17 AM Mutt, a quick search provides this answer.
This is not and H&A policy. They are bound by their contract with American Honda. American Honda will not allow them to sell outside the US. If they were to do this they could risk their Honda Franchise.
Take a look down previous threads to see the full story.
spdrcr5 05-06-2006, 11:35 AM You can find companies that are willing to risk their dealer franchises, but H and A isn't one of them. Even the companies selling parts by putting the entire parts catalog online is breaking their contract with American Honda. Again, H and A isn't willing to do this.
If anyone in Canada can convince their dealer to create an online presence they are certainly welcome to promote that presence here so that all of our Canadian members can benefit.

They're only licensed to sell in the United States, huh? Now that makes sense.
Tim Vance 05-06-2006, 10:20 PM I can understand licensing agreements - but I can't understand a retailer that wouldn't enter into a reciprical agreement with Honda Canada...?
And as to duty taxes excise etc....It's all a crock worked out by business' and gov't to inflate prices. NAFTA was supposed to eliminate duties, but all it did was allow the gov't to change the rules, and force everything to go thru brokerages now. Where they can all collect 'fees' for passing everything thru customs. They collect more fees now, then they ever did simply by calling it a duty, and we, the comsumers get shafted.
A tax by any other name, is still a tax:evil:
lizzurd 05-06-2006, 11:29 PM [It is NOT an EX-P... It is a Y-package...
.. It is a 2006 ASM-Y 2wd 5spd
protest US only model designations in Profile]
The Y package is just a marketing designation.....as far as the service manuals and parts listings are concerned it is still called an EX-P.

OK, I'm always open to learn... This is the model list from Profile:
http://sundog.ca/stuff/modellist.png
In Canada, we (for 2006) are offered):
Base 2wd
Y 2wd, 5speed or auto.
Y 4wd, 5speed or auto.
Or 6 variants (speaking of 2006) in all. How exactly do these 6 line up with those 20 in the profile?
I take it this is like the thing with Accords where a Canadian LX is a US DX, and so on..??
My "Vehicle Purchase Agreement" and everything else from the dealer says the "Model" is Y.

I'm not disputing what your paperwork says.Mine was sold as a Y package as well. Its just how Honda markets the E.The US has more models due to the fact that they sell 10 times more south of the border.Up here honda didnt see the need for 20 different models.

Neither am I disputing your data - all I am trying to do is make it line up with mine. I haven't found a definitive list comparing the two. Specifically, I'd like to see, somewhere official, that my Y is in fact an EX-P, as I long ago deduced it to be. Certain accessories seem to distinguish models at a break in the model hierarchy different from ours. Do correct me here if I am wrong.
edit- None of which argues against EOC offering the Profile option to declare our model in our own language, as it were.

I think that this is the crux of the problem. I understand that they want to give a different designation, because there are differences between the Canadian and US models, and they don't see the market here for all 20 models.
The problem I see is that they are only really offering 2 models. Would it have hurt them that much to offer 4, and let the dealers decide which ones they want. At least we would have the option of ordering what we want, and the dealers can transfer between them.
It just burns me that I can't get an EX or EXS without painted panels. I don't like painted panels. How many times do I (and many other E owners) have to say this before they listen?

There isn't really a definitive list as to what we have compared to what they have. Give me some time, and I can explain it to you, but I'm at work, and I can't take the time now to type it out...
Basically, you have an EX-P Canadian version. You have the same as the EX-P, plus the speedo in KM, larger windshield washer jug with a heater, beefer bumper, and daylight running lights.
If you search in the forums here, there has been quite a bit of discussion about the differences....
