I found this great web-site ( rma.org ) which is a terrific source of tire information for tire geeks.
There is a nice free PDF down load called, "REPLACEMENT GUIDELINES FOR PASSENGER AND LIGHT TRUCK TIRES MANUAL & SUPPLEMENT".

That document has the best load v. pressure tables that I've seen. However the Element's weight (about 1100 lb/tire) and recommended pressures (32/34) are off the bottom of these tables. And the tables do not cover the low profile tires that might need higher pressures. The numbers in the tables suggest that those of us with 225 and 235 width tires (70%) could get by with pressures as low as 30psi.

So, I have a new set of Toyo Open Country's in size 225. What would be your recommendation for a light load of two adults (total 360 pounds) and two small children (total 100 pounds)?

Or two 280 pound adult or one 560 adult...Hopefully not a 280 pound child though!

That's a total of 360 pounds (2 adults) and 100 pounds (2 small children) for a grand total of 460 pounds!
I'm thinking of inflating both front and rear tires to 34 pounds to decrease the rolling resistance of the tires and come closer to Honda's recommended tire pressures. The door sticker reads 32 front/34 rear.
When the tires were installed they were inflated to 36 pounds front/rear. I reduced the pressure to 31 front/33 rear and my E didn't ride as well and bumps and pot holes were more noticeable.
