: Spare tire cover....

I recall people posting threads about the spare tire cover/table cracking under heavy loads.

There were ideas on using coiled ropes and tarps to fill in the gap between the cover and the actual tire so that it wouldn't crack uinder pressure.

I had been lazy and had been meaning to do the whole tarp and rope thing as soon as possible... but never got around to it.

Today I had to carry a LOT of stuff in my E and thought about whether the spare tire cover would crack, so I opened it up and to my surprise, there were blocks of extremely stiff and hard styrofoam glued into the underside of the spare tire cover... it seems to be taking up the space that have been causing cracks in previous elements. I stood up on it and it seemed fine.

Does anyone else have the blocks of styrofoam on the bottom of their cover?

Sounds like an excellent dealer mod. Or Honda finally wised up.

I did a lot of reading in the forums and I was aware of this problem prior to taking delivery of my E two weeks ago, so I checked it out during my walk through and saw that Honda not the dealership and made a modification. There are 4 rectangular black styrofoam pads glued on the cover.

Hmmmm, I wonder if those can be gotten from Honda. Any part # on them, per chance? Tho Honda's price on accessories is steep.

I have similar blocks on the spare cover on my E but they're dark grey. They seem to be pretty dense and durable. My car was built on 5/20 but I don't know when they started adding the blocks.

There must have been a huge gap looking at the size of the foam. Now do I do it myself or get my dealer to do it. How come no TSB

You should be able to go to your dealer and have him look at a new Element - then simply do the same for you. The hard foam shouldn't be tough to come by. Bought ours on 4/30 and it had this done at the factory.

Trouble is he has no elements on the lot. All sold out in Canada.

Where in Canada are you Ropedart? There are some dealers in the Greater Toronto Metropolitan Region that have demo "E"'s.
