This is Tiberius, a GSD and the latest addition to our "furry horde," as I call them. (We also have a Maltese and three kitties.) He is 4 1/2 months old and weighed 51 pounds at his vet visit last week.

We are hoping to have non-furry kids in the near future, and it occurred to DH and I that we really don't want the pooches licking and drooling on our poor kid on car trips. Macy, the Maltese, would be fine, but Ti is much more rambunctions (and obviously WAY bigger), so we wanted a vehicle where dogs and baby could be separated. Oh, and did I mention that Ti gets dreadfully carsick (hope he outgrows that!)? So an Element seemed like the perfect solution.

Anyway, we got one today, and I love it already! It is SO cute and fun to drive!

I can personally vouch for both the stain resistance and odor resistance of the E's flooring, when faced with canine excretions. It should follow that anything that human offspring can throw at it will be resisted as well :)

That's good to know, because you would not BELIEVE the volume of barf a 50-pound carsick puppy can generate! He's lucky he's so freakin' cute: :D

:???: That is one of the reason why I have small dogs. What goes in, must come out. And it that case small is better for me.

Cute dog though.

Sadly, I know the precise volume that an approximately 50-pound Golden Retirever is capable of producing. Luckily, she now loves to go for rides and never gets sick. Back in the Dark Days, however...

Why thank you! (He's technically my DH's pooch. The Maltese is my dog -- though she prefers her daddy, the traitor!)

Anything in particular that you guys did to help her get over it? Ti just loves going places -- to friends', to the park, wherever -- just not the actual process of GETTING there!

Although I'm proud of how well she responds to commands, I can't take credit for her comfort when riding in vehicles. It just sort of happened one day, that she was perfectly fine in the car, and enjoyed going places.

That's awesome! I hope Ti does that someday (and soon!)

Can we see a picture of your GR? I bet she's a doll!

Yup, too cute for her own good. There's a pic of her in the first post in the following thread:

Coming back from a long weekend, the dirty Element full of backpacks, and camping gear, Abigail, finds the small hole to sit in on the way back

Some dogs seem to outgrow the carsickness as they get a bit older. Our oldest Schnauzer used to get carsick after an hour in the car, so short rides were OK. I've had him in the car now for a 4 hour drive & he was fine the whole way. He likes to ride in the front seat. I think it may help for them to see out the windows. Unfortunately, when he doesn't feel well he wants to be picked up. We stopped taking him out on the boat a long time ago! Hopefully your pup will outgrow the problem. Maybe try a smaller breakfast before a car ride (not so much volume) and keep plenty of paper towels & trash bags handy.

Oh yeah I would!! YOU might not believe the volume of liquid poo a sea sick 120lb Great Dane can generate immediately after getting of the auto ferry!!

This was just prior to poo tornado part one on the poop deck of the ferry...

...part two occured (in the vehicle that the E replaced) just after we disembarked the ferry! Luckily we were prepared with towels and blankets to cover everything but... still... YUCK!!

Hondamade, is Abigail a husky? She is darling!

mlwschultz, thanks -- I am hoping that Ti grows out of it soon. Poor little guy -- I wish we could take him more places.

Flake, he is GORGEOUS!!! I love his natural ears. One of my best friend has two Danes, and they are just fabulous dogs.

Flake,
It's good to see another E owner using it's height capacity! We have a Dane and a Mastiff. They are so glad we got the E after crouching for so long in the Subaru.

all i can say is thats alot of dogs!

Our pup used to get sick after about an hour too - and usually within 100 yards of our destination - we're still convinced he knew we were there and barfed in relief! then we took the plunge and drove from minneapolis to toronto (16 hours). he was fine! and he's been good since then, a few little mishaps, but overall we're really happy, i'm sure your pup will get over it too. not feeding him before we left seemed to help out. for that long trip, we took turns sitting in back with him, folded the passenger seat down and we had a great lounger too!

I can honestly say that those two photos helped convince me on purchasing an Element. While I was doing my car buying "research" I popped into this wonderful forum... did a search... and saw those pictures in my readings!! You may want to contact Lynnwood Honda in Lynnwood, WA to find out about collecting your commissions!! ;-)

The plan was to replace our Subaru Forrester (EXCELLENT vehicle just not tall enough for our growing boys) but the wife waffled and my Ford SuperCrew conked out on me on the interstate once too often and... voila... I got the new Element (and yes, now the wife is wishing SHE had gotten it instead... silly woman... she had her chance... I think she wants to look at that new fangled Element that is coming out in 2007!)

Anyways... Thanks for the convincing photos!!

Your dog is beautiful! I hope my attachment worked. I have a Rescued GS and Belgian Malinois. Anyway, get ready for the hair in the E, it's miserable but very easy to clean out! FYI- Underneath the floor console cup holder area is a major hair magnet but you can pop it off and clean under there.

you have a dane and a mastiff, then what about all the other dogs?
There a lot of bodies in there?
Are you dog walkers?

First off, Flake, if I have helped just one person decided to purchase an E, my mission is complete:) . No, I'm really glad they helped you. We had to take our dogs down with us for a test-drive. They actually both fit in the far back with the seats in!!! We were sold that day.
Jurneez, our two dogs are the two on the left of the left photo. The mastiff is actually a mastiff/boxer mix which keeps her a little smaller than a pure mastiff. The other dogs belong to other dane affectionatos(sp?). We meet occassionally at a local park for Great Dane Day at the Park. We get a speaker, usually a vet, to come speak about Dane issues and the let them play! While there I asked if we could see how many we could fit into the E, which we had just purchased. I can't remember, but I think it was 8 or 9, but could've squeezed another couple had they held still.

Most dogs outgrow carsickness - Chance (Belgian Sheepdog) outgrew it by 9 months.
