Honda coming to Greensburg. The Columbus Dispatch reports Honda has picked Indiana for its new auto assembly plant, a decision the automaker will announce tomorrow, according to an industry source. http:www.wthr.com as the full story.

Greensburg is so close to their Ohio suppliers it only makes sense. I think it will be a win win for both States. It's right near I-74 so access from other areas will be very good. The price of real estate just went up in that area for sure. It will be a big boost for southern Indiana to say the least.

I was a little surprised being that Honda has so many plants in Ohio. The good thing with Greensburg is that it is close to the other Ohio plants and it's right off of I-74 and there is rail service there. There is one farm that pretty much has all the acrage that they need for the new plant and the family said they're ready to sell. It'll be interesting to see what the plant is going to build there. I may have to see about putting in an application. I could get there within 25 to 30 minutes from my house.

It is interesting to note that it is approximately 50 miles to Indy, 60 to Cincinnati,95 to Louisville, and about 100 to me here in Dayton.
The supply base will be abundant. When they built here the area thrived all around them opening many other businesses and services.
Housing grew where there was none. I suspect it will be the same for the Greensburg area. I would bet there will be a lot of relocation from the surrounding cities as hiring begins.

I haven't heard what vehicle Honda plans to build at this new facility. I'm curious though. The word from Gov. Mitch Daniels is that this plant will be up and running by 2008. I'm thinking I can pull the plug on this state police gig with 27 or 28 years in and go work for Honda. I'm still relatively young at 49yr, good work record and can jump on I-74 and be there in less than 30mins. I'm waiting to hear the details on employment. I think it's going to be a good deal for the states economy and the spin off jobs that it will create should be substantial.
