Looks like you guys had a great time herding Elements at Tentback Mountain. Very commendable. The camp Bar looks like it was doing a brisk business too :D The Table of Pain is insane! Wish I could of been there. Was it cold at night? What was on the dinner menus? I really enjoyed your pics. Thanks for sharing them.

Friday was a cold night we but all survived.
Yes, the bar did a good business and the table of pain was most fun....

dinner menus: as best as I recall, (like gail said, it should be illegal to have that much fun)

Burgers, Shrimp, Sausage, Stuffed clams, Chicken, and Stake, ribs, broiled eggplant, bush bean salad, a couple other salads, Home made bread and Butter pickles, All the fixins! (guess I can't remember them all)
Desserts: too many to list - all great.

Everyone brought so much food, it was really a foodfest on Tentback.
Had great fires until late into the night.

Rats. It's supposed to send you to the EOC Spring Meet album. It worked when I set it up, but evidently because of a cookie on this computer. There are 70+ photos...thought the WalMart setup would be a convenient way for folks to see them all and get prints if they wanted. Will have to find another hosting site or just pick a select few photos for posting.

In the meantime, if anybody wants to see the full set, PM me with an e-mail address.

Great pictures! Got a BIG laugh out of Carly's photo of Uncle Mike and me.

You Yankees certainly have raised the bar for EOC gatherings. Apparently a fabulous time was had by all. It's cool to see newcomers and longtime members alike turning out for the chow-down and fireside fest.

It's nice to know there is an Element-tested and EOC-approved variety out there. I like the 8x8 and think it would be adequate for my needs. Is it an easy one person set-up?

Tess

ramblerdan
05-23-2006, 03:04 PM
It's pretty easy, though it helps to be tall, especially for attaching the rain fly. The real trick is moving the vehicle and docking again. Attaching the tent and vehicle makes the most sense if you're going to be in one campsite for a few days, taking day hikes. The tunnel between the vehicle and tent can also be removed completely.

Hi Folks!

What an AWESOME meet! We had a great time and Denise not only "survived" her first camping trip but really had a fun time and will be looking forward to the next meet for sure!

Sorry I've been too busy to post till now, coz a few of you have been having way too much fun without me jumping in to let you have it!
(I kid, I kid!:-D )

Thanks to every single Northeast EOC member and their spouse, guest, cowboy and canine who made our Spring Meet the smashing success that it was! I wish to give special thanks to a few folks and apologize in advance to anyone I forget:

A big round of thanks and appreciation to:

1) Jurn: for finding Quinebaug Cove, booking it, organizing this meet, making the Tentback Mountain sign, bringing in her delicious homemade habenero salsa, being a fun hot sauce "rival" and for chickening out and not taking me on at "The Table of Pain"! (Appropriately named by Ramblerdan)

2) Bald Eagle: for providing his literary talent, humor, wit and printing skills to write and post the Spring Meet anouncements, making the much sought after and highly collectable customized EOC VIP parking passes, the Welcome Center sign, for taking an amazing amount of photos and posting them here and for the Certificate's of Questionable Achievement he presented to Jurn and I for our hot sauce "smackdown" competition! Too funny!

3) Cai88 (Carly): for loaning us a tent to use, which I can't imagine not having, and keeping me laughing! Those captioned photo's were a hoot and don't worry, my manhood is still intact since I had a lot of help holding up that sign on Sunday!

4) Rick (Carly's Cowboy): for setting up and breaking down our tent, and helping me with the most important thing of all...my Corona lime injector! I must sheepishly admit I was having a little trouble with the "injection" part of getting it in... but 'ol Rick quickly stepped in to show me how to "Get 'er Done"! Must be all that reading your doing Rick! Thank you very much!

5) hmbhuss1: (Harry) For bringing your guitar, taking requests, and performing for us by the campfire. What an unexpected treat! If I had to pick my one single greatest memory from that trip, it certainly would be you playing for all of us around the campfire....uhh....right up until msGail took that "after photo" of Denise and I! A BIG THANK YOU for going to Dunkin' Donuts Sunday morning and bringing us back a Box 'O Joe and donuts!

6) Ramblerdan (Paul): for loaning us your Coleman air mattress for a great nights sleep...Hooray! Thanks also for generously giving me your "old" compact backpacking stove that was last years model. I look forward to using it!

7) MsGail: For bringing the "portable ladies room", which I only snuck into twice in the middle of the night. (I kid, I kid) Thanks for the all of the great photos....umm...well for most of them anyways (just you wait til next time!)

8) To all of the new folks: Dan, Harry/Harvey/Henry (you were called all of these:lol: ), Mystic and the nice couple with the brand new RR E we met Saturday afternoon. Thanks for joining us and it's your participation and enthusiasm that will keep our group going and make it one of the best EOC chapters in the country! (My apologies to anyone I forgot)

Needless to say Denise and I had a blast and can't wait for the next meet. Her co-workers at the bank couldn't wait to "bust her" when she got back about her "camping trip" but she had fun telling them what an awesome time she had. I hope to see you folks around the boards, maybe in the "Northeast Element Owners Cafe" or future threads about the next meet!

Thanks for the great time everyone!!!:D

Met Uncle Mike at Long Pond/East Brimfield Reservoir today for some kayaking action. A great afternoon. We toured the length of Long Pond, then cut under Route 20 and paddled over to the Quinebaug Cove Campground. Took a break on the beach (no one was there) and then explored a small tributary that feeds into the southwest corner of the reservoir. Can't find the name of it, but it looks like you can take it to Holland Pond and then on to Hamilton Reservoir. It was getting late, so we didn't go too far upstream.

If we go back to Tentback Mountain for another meet, this is a definite kayaking opportunity. If anybody knows the name of this "stream", I'd like to know.

Hey I'm glad that link was helpful but better yet, that looks like a great water trail you followed. Maybe I should post the pic to entice others. If I could leave my healing dog alone, I'd jump at it.

Probably lots of wildlife there too, eh?

I'm not sure how many folks will be free on a Monday but you and Mike will have an excellent time exploring!

I just love puzzles, but your pm said you were going to take a nap and you already confessed you were suppose to be mowing......

I'd rather search and find at night, than watch TV, which is usually useless, except "LOST" of course and a couple others.

Mike and I went back yesterday and did the full Quinebaug River Canoe Trail from East Brimfield Reservoir to Holland Pond...1-3/4 hours upstream against the wind and current, 1 hour downstream. Eleven miles plus the paddle across Holland Pond to the beach. Saw about five other kayakers along the way, most of them fishing. Some geese, scared a couple of blue heron, lots of beaver activity along the way...by the end of the summer they may have access blocked at a point or two.

A definite must-do activity if we go back to Tentback Mountain for a meet.

Hey everyone,

I was just looking for fun at the Tentback camping trip and I realized Bald Eagle mentioned how the trip was a must return to trip, and I'm wondering if Mike you said that to finish the kayak trip and that's the one you and Uncle Mike already did or did you mean to get back to the Mountain to finish more????

Because as I was visiting the posts I remembered they offered us the beach sites below.......so, if we were serious about this I bet others will bring thier kayaks and I'd make the call to see if the offer was valid before Memorial Day or did he mean any time.??

I'm not rushing it I just thought if we waited 'till April, the sites would already be registered to others for May....(June?) Beach sites after all...

Maybe I'll throw this is the cafe as well.

p.s. Harry, you still are required for the music anywhere we go:grin:

The weather will be more favorable nearer to the end of June. That would make boating more feasible.

very good point....

I was thinking, we got just a little cold then too back in May.

Although no bugs......
After all if the owner said he'd set us all up on the beach, maybe I should check into it for dates with him early on.....

I know it sounds silly because we haven't even done Catskills yet, but if we call in spring, every site on the beach (or many sites together) might be tricky........to get, so later in June would fly.

My earlier post was a suggestion that IF we go back to Tentback Mountain next spring, kayaking/canoeing the Quinebaug River Canoe Trail is "muy worthwhile" as they say south of the border. It'll be plenty warm enough for that kind of activity in May. Wouldn't want to go waterskiing though.

Actually I was thinking about Tentback Mountain today myself. After a week of scraping, sanding, priming, caulking and painting the front porch floor, I'm beginning to think the residents of Tackyville may have the right idea after all.

Yeah, Bald Eagle, I hear ya and feel your pain.... .I'm in the same boat.

Every free hour I'm not sure if I should paint the house, Wall #4, scrape the shed, strip the deck or weed. Of course I then never have time to detail the E.

Tackyville, well, you're right, they don't worry about that stuff.
I'm up for planning a spring camping trip.......
Would be nice to not rush like I had to this year.......

p.s. Did I embarass the heck out of Carly?
didn't think that was possible....:D

I'll make sure and reserve a copy from the Tentback Library if we go back there!:-D

...so I does that mean you're the one who snagged the book?

Uncle MIke
07-27-2006, 12:25 PM
Yup it was me!

Since I was the one who absconded it from the vintage "library" of trashy paperbacks....I felt a moral obligation to return it and keep the Tentback collection intact. I heard that book was a favorite among the Tackyville crowd!:D

Hey Uncle Mike

Don't forget to eat frozen pizzas and add the boxes (letters) to the sign and bring them to hang at Tenback Loop #7, hope you enjoy the pizzas. I sure had to eat a lot of them, so look at it this way, unless you make a complete sentence, you got off easy!:D

Don't forget to eat frozen pizzas and add the boxes (letters) to the sign and bring them to hang at Tenback Loop #7,

The sign you made was great and I would like to keep the fun going BUT I have a few challenges so I can't make any promises....but I'll try!:)

My "challenges":

1) I have ZERO talent/patience/intellect/aptitude when it comes to anything remotely resembling "arts & crafts".

2) I'm seldom home for meals since I usually have lunch & dinner at work.

I may try my luck at dishing off my "assignment" to Denise, but will bring the sign in any event!;-)

Can't believe you are drinking Corona Light...Extra is the only way to go...didn't see any lime either.

Can't be a true Parrothead.

Can't be a true Parrothead.

Parrothead?.......Nope not me, although I like Jimmy Buffet.
I don't remember anyone saying they were Parrotheads but the Tentback Meet was quite a few beers ago!:-o

As far as the lime goes you are dead wrong and must have missed the pics of my "lime injector". I also ridiculed Corona Light when it first came out, thinking "what a joke", but the golfers at the club I worked at were raving about it, we were flying through ten cases a week, and then a funny thing happened:I actually drank one!:-P Lets face it any real beer drinker will laugh at either Corona, and I don't need any more "Extra".....around my waist!

I stand corrected....After further rewiew of the pics (very nice, btw), I did see the lime injector.

I guess I jumped to conclusions, what with the shirt and flamingos.

But let's face it, anyone who drives an "E" has the soul of a Parrothead.

Well if you are talking about EOC'er types and forget about the "oh so serious non-waving, strictly-for-utility-driving only Element owners" (a few are in my town, ughhhh!!!!),then I'll drink to that!:D

Thanks for dropping by the Northeast section of the boards. Too bad you live so far away otherwise I'd pick up a few "Extra's" and invite you to our next meet in the Catskills!

Just my 2 cents...
I can't see the logic of any American beer being called 'Light'. Isn't that an oxymoron? You know, like 'wet water'.... ( I guess it's the same thing....)

Careful. As soon as Bush is done in Iraq and we have all the oil we can drink, he has his eye on Canadian breweries.

By the way, where are you keeping your WMDs?

You can have all the Canadian beer you want - It's called 'free trade'. You give me a bottle of Bacardi Select, I give you a case of Canadian beer....
WMDs???

Weapons of Mass Destruction.

To be grammatically correct though, I guess they should be called WsMD.

AHHHH
ICBMW's....
We give them to the snowbirds, and send them to you every winter...
And as Gallagher says - drives the enemy nuts to know that there are a million tourists on the roads every weekend, with a six pack, and a Patriot...
(don't you read the papers, everyone knows Canada doesn't have any...we sent them all south)
