Does anyone know the amp output of the E? I am guesstimating on what wattage power inverter to purchase (along w/all my other toys).

Thank you,
Al

The book claims 60 amps! However, The crew down at the alternator shop tells me that It's output is 79 amps. ( they Tested it.) I went in to see if they could bring it up to 85 or 100 amps. I'm sticking with the 79 amps for now. If I burn it out, they tell me there is an upgrade to 100 amps for just over 200$.

Hey Dom,

The first time I saw the battery in the E I said, "What the Hell is a motorcycle battery doing in a car?!, now I know why. I have upgraded my Harley to the new Streetglide and it has a 50 amp system. There is a 10 ampere difference between a Honda E and a Harley FLHXI!!!

If I do more camping and/or put more electron absorbing toys in the E there just might be a new upgrade to plan. . .

As always Dom, thanks for the input!

I should have posted this before but I just got around to looking it up in the service manual.

I don't know what your guy was checking, Dom, but the service manual specs an output of 105 amps at 13.5 volts at normal temperature (pg. 2-2). I talked to a man at Ohio Generator (detailed in this thread (http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20261)) and he said the Denso alternator used in an E typically checks out 35-40 amps more than its rating. I think we have a better alternator than your guy found.

The boys at the Electrical shop, go by a teat data book. It's the results of there tests on several brands of alternators. I stood there wile they ran the test. at Idle, the output was 79 amps. That was on my 06. I have not had them test the 05. They told me that reading is TIPICAL for the Honda's. They run all the tests at Idle. It may read higher at 2000 rpm. They do not test that way.

They have re-built the alternator for my boat. It was an 85 amp Nippon when they started. I was having trouble keeping a charge in the batteries, when running Radar, sonar, lights, and the radios. They bumped up to 160 amps for me. Now I can run all the electronics on the boat, and still see it charging! They did the test on the bench at their shop. Matching the 450 RPM idle speed of the Cummings Diesel in the boat. It was putting out 160 amps. I trust they know what they are doing. They have been at it for over 35 years!

So if the test they run on my E shows 79 amps, I believe that's what it is at Idle.

Honda does show 100 amps for our E's. I just looked it up. That is enough power to run more stuff than what it comes with.

A car company exaggerating on one of their specs?

Honda, who says the Element's amp puts out 270 watts ILS (If Lightning Strikes)?

Them, telling a fib about my E with its mileage in the high 20s?

I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you!
